Who are we?
We are a group of CT filmmakers with the drive and creativity to make a feature film. We are trying to raise 15,000 by 10pm on September 15th for production costs. Watch our pitch video to learn more about who we are, who we are working with, and what we want to do.
What is Rising Star about?
An overworked insurance adjuster must decide between his job and his passion after he accidentally meets his online love interest.
When and Where will Rising Star shoot?
October 3rd – October 22nd.
100% of the film will be shot in Hartford, CT. We hope to shoot in Bushnell Park, the Mark Twain House, and a number of other locations.

What would we like to do?
We would like to raise $15,000 to help finance the production of our first feature film, a comedy/drama called Rising Star. This film will be the first feature that Marty Lang has written and directed, and the money will go toward paying for three things: the crew members we'll need to shoot, the equipment those crew members will work with during the three weeks we'll be shooting the film, and food for the crew to eat during the shoot.
Our film isn't just a movie about a guy and a girl and our rewards aren't just ways of saying thank you. The recession has hit the USA, heck the world, in devastating ways. All the while we try to find some humor in our daily lives. This mix is exactly how we approached our rewards.
One of them, our "Mike and Matt video," will be a personalized Youtube video, starring Rising Star actor Michael Barra and producer Matthew Giovannucci. This video will be a one to two minute serenade of how awesome you are, helped by the recipient filling out a questionnaire with basic questions about themselves. These videos will be given away via a random weekly drawing to two people who donated that week. You don't want to miss out on this reward.
You might notice a * in some of our rewards. They are statistics about jobs and the economy obtained in July 2010. Source
If you have an Amazon.com account contributing takes less than a minute. Your credit card will not be billed unless we reach our goal of $15,000 by September 15th at 10 PM. It’s a no lose situation. You get something if we are funded and you aren’t billed if we don’t reach our goal. It’s that simple.
How are we spreading the word?
Internet radio, traditional radio, business cards, contests, web site, Facebook Page with >900 fans, Twitter, YouTube, email, family, friends, >115 volunteers, and in person networking with local CT businesses and elected officials. And last but not least, with your help!
By clicking 'Like' on our Facebook Page or our web site, 'Retweet' on Twitter, writing a blog about us, or by sharing this page you're engaged and making it possible for us to shoot Rising Star in October!
A brief background about our writer/director.
Marty Lang is an independent filmmaker and journalist from Broad Brook, Connecticut. He has produced six feature films in Connecticut, and written and directed eight short films, too. Marty is the Assistant Director of the Connecticut Film Industry Training Program, a state-sponsored workforce development program for the film and television industry that's run since 2008.
He is also the Educational Director for the Connecticut Film Festival, and a co-founder of the Future Filmmakers of Connecticut, a lobbying group that works with state government on behalf of independent filmmakers and film students.
Marty graduated in 2004 from the Florida State University Graduate Film Conservatory, where he produced a short film called THE PLUNGE that won a Student Academy Award, and co-produced another short film called FIELDS OF MUDAN that qualified for the 2006 Oscar for Best Short Film.

Our fans mean the world to us. They mean so much to us that we work with them to promote their work. A.D. Calvo submitted a design for our business card competition. Part of his design is the thumbnail image for our video above. Alex, thank you for your submission, congrats on winning the competition and best of luck with your films!
