This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Mon, February 25 2019 5:59 AM UTC +00:00.
I'm Garrett James, and I'm a singer/songwriter/musician based in Dallas, TX.
Last March, I released my completely self-funded debut album, Looking Up, and received incredible support. Looking Up was streamed over 55,000 times from all over the world, and was sold over 500 times (which, in the age of Spotify, is wild). This response was insanely awesome, and I want to press on.
My aim is to create music that is beautiful and fun, and pair it to catchy lyrics that bridge the gap between internal feelings and public statements. While my songs vary in subject, the gospel of Jesus Christ is always the point. I feel a strong pull to write songs that will be heard by people who wouldn't hit up Hillsong United on Spotify, but they might run across my record in the singer/songwriter showcase. With a marketing budget of $500, my music reached 6,800 unique listeners from 62 different countries on Spotify alone - people who heard about hope in Jesus that may not normally seek it out.
I truly believe in this music, and over the past 14 months (since I was last in the studio), I've been writing and refining a completely new set of songs. This time around, however, I want to balance the over all budget of the album to reflect the value I believe it has, and spend 40% of the total costs on marketing. This will help me reach exponentially more people all around the world with this message of hope.
Being able to create music is such a privilege, and I am humbled that so many people have listened to my deepest thoughts and stories. It really means the world to me, and I truly can't thank you enough for supporting me and getting the word out about this fundraiser.
If you can't give, please consider posting the link to this Kickstarter on Instagram or Facebook. An ask goes a long way!
Notes: The process for designing for the T-shirt, album artwork, and overall branding for this record will begin when the funds are received, and will be part of the overall marketing portion of the budget for this project. I promise the T-shirts will be cool.
Risks and challenges
Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing fundraising platform, which means if I don't get the full targeted amount, I won't receive any of the funds. Exposure is key here, and I intend on using every platform/means of communication within my power to get the word out.
Scheduling times to record, and produce the record, as well as coordinating musicians, can be difficult. Major schedule conflicts between all parties involved can cause set backs. Printing T-shirts and Cds, along with shipping time, can cause issues as well. That's why I've given plenty of lead time before the target release date of Got It Good (June). The rewards orders will be sent to production as soon as the Kickstarter is complete and the funds received.
The other risk is, of course, being attacked by squirrels and thus, being left petrified in fear of the outdoors. This would cause me to produce an album that is entirely about squirrels, which may or may not be a downgrade from the quality I intend to produce. They dominate the North Texas trees, and are evil. So far, no one has been directly attacked by these squirrels, but it could happen.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
