Last year, we planted 97 gardens in 1 weekend on the west side of Los Angeles. This year, we want to grow more...

Our Goal: We're trying to raise $1,000 to plant 100 Gardens in 1 weekend in West Los Angeles. On April 24th- 25th, with the help of thousands of volunteers, we will attempt to plant over 100 edible organic gardens throughout the Westside of LA. Our goal is to grow food and strengthen communities.

How it Works: People who want to plant a garden can register a garden on our website, www.gardensofgratitude.com, and then friends and neighbors can find a garden on our map to help plant. We also provide local gardening experts who go to the various garden locations to help provide tips and expertise when needed. We also coordinate the delivery of donated resources (soil, compost, starter plants, etc) to the various Garden of Gratitude locations. Then we have a big potluck party, and the gardens continue to grow for the rest of the year. Its a great event, for the community, and by the community.

What the Money is For: The $1,000 is to help cover the cost of planting gardens for low-income individuals who can't afford to pay for gardening materials. 90% of the gardens we plant are paid for by the home owners or renters, but we also try to plant gardens for individuals and non-profit organizations who can't afford to do so. That is where these kickstarter funds will go. If we raise more than our $1000 goal, we will plant more gardens!

How to Get Involved: Please chip in what you can to help fund our kickstarter campaign! Donations through kickstarter are not tax-deductible. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation, email sponsor@gardensofgratitude.com. Even if you can't donate financially, please sign up to plant a garden at your home. Gardens can be of any size, from an herb garden on a balcony to a full backyard bonanza. You can also register to help plant a garden in your neighborhood. Or if you have extra gardening tools or soil you can donate, contact us via our site, and we will arrange pick up and put your resources to use! Oh, and please share this with friends! :)
