Blackwater Gulch is a tabletop skirmish game based on the fierce and wild west.
I just wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone who has backed the game so far or shown your support! I'm very excited to see this succeed so fast and so far beyond my original goal. I can't wait for this campaign to finish and start making some really cool minis :)
What follows is info about stretch goals and bonus gifts, for more info on the game & this Kickstarter campaign, scroll down to "About the Game" below.
STRETCH GOAL #1 - COMPLETE!! - Now that we have reached $6000, we will be able to fund a third box set, the Bloodwolf Tribe, a Native American themed gang. Concept art for this gang is still in production, but I have the following figures sketched out so far. I'll update the image as I get more!
BONUS - WIth this first stretch goal complete, every backer who pledged $30 or more will receive custom made Sheriff Dice at the rate of 1 D6 per $1500 generated. The more we can make the more you will get! These dice are ONLY being created for this Kickstarter campaign and will never, ever be available again. These dice will be 16mm with a 6-pointed sheriff star on the #6 side. Here is a sample of what the dice will look like:
Extra Bonus: Since this is the only time these dice will ever be available, if you would like to get more than what's included as a reward, you can add extra money to your pledge to buy more now. They will cost $3 for 4 extra dice. You can get as many extras as you like, but please order in multiples of 4 just to make things easier for me :)
STRETCH GOAL #2 - COMPLETE - Now that we have reached over $9000, I will be able to fund a fourth box set, the Bandidos Mexicanos, a Mexican themed gang. Here is the concept art
BONUS - With the second stretch goal complete, every backer who pledged $30 or more will receive The Norwegian for FREE. This Hired Gun can be added to any gang, and will have stats similar to a gang leader, with unique weapons not available to normal characters in the game. Sculpted & designed by Pedro Ramos, The Norwegian is based on a character from the AMC show "Hell on Wheels". This model will be available for sale on our website later, however he's being offered free to Kickstarter backers. He'll be available probably around the same time as the Vigilance Committee figures.
STRETCH GOAL #3 - COMPLETE!!! - Now that we have made it to $12,000, every backer who pledged over $30 may select any one of our previously released deluxe Gang Leader figures for FREE! You may choose either the Bounty Hunter Gang Leader or the Gambler Gang Leader.
STRETCH GOAL #4 - $15,000 - If we can make it to $15,000, every back who pledged over $30 will receive BOTH of our deluxe Gang Leaders for FREE!
(If you happen to own either of these figures already, you may get new copies to give to friends or use for conversions, or take store credit for future purchases at $8 per figure.)
Thank you again for your support! I can't wait to see how far we can take this and start bringing you all the best Wild West figures around!
Blackwater Gulch is a table top hobby game where you and your friends collect small gangs of finely detailed, 30mm miniature men who will fight each other in the fierce and wild west. You will create a gang or posse based on different professions and equipment, breathing life into your men through the skirmishes they win or lose in the town streets and outskirts.
The game is named after the fictional town of Blackwater Gulch, located “somewhere out west”. It’s around 1890 and a gold rush has brought fortune-seekers to town after a local discovery made nationwide news. This also brought a population boom and the town has become overcrowded with unsavory sorts, and not enough lawmen to go around.
Your gang is living in these troubling times. They can be lawmen or outlaws, vigilantes or freedom fighters. You decide who they are, what they can do and why they do it. Adventure awaits in Blackwater Gulch! Keep your six-guns by your side, and an eye on your back. You’ll never know who’s coming down the road...
Blackwater Gulch was launched in November of 2011. The rulebook is available on our website at www.gangfightgames.com as a free PDF, or a print-on-demand book in soft or hardcover. The game has been steadily growing since it's release and we have a couple of figures already available. However, in order to provide a solid selection of miniatures for players, we need your help!
Our plan at this point is to produce 2 "starter" box sets, and eventually many more. These sets will come with 5 figures, printed Character Cards for each figure, in addition to a small "quickstart" rulebook packaged in a special plastic box that can also double as a carrying case for your gang. Each set is to be designed around a specific storyline or theme. Our goal is to produce the best, highly detailed "Wild West" figures around, searching the world over for the best sculptors we can find.
The first starter set, The Clancy Gang, is a wild bunch of ruthless outlaws. Sculpting is complete and this set has an expected release date of "May or June 2012" with a expected retail price of $35. The original plan was to fund and produce this one set ourselves, and have the profits from that fund the next set. However, from start to finish it takes roughly 3 - 4 months to produce one set, and on top of that, at this early stage of the game it could take several months to sell enough to cover the next set. That is just too long to wait between releases.
This Kickstarter program is to fund our second starter set, The Vigilance Committee, a posse of lawmen and concerned citizens fighting to bring outlaws and criminals to justice. With your help, this set should be available "around July or August 2012." As the Clancy Gang is going to be released earlier, you have the option of choosing whichever set you wish, or if you want both we will ship each item as it arrives. For shipping, we can cover the first $5 of your shipping costs, but we'll need to charge you for the rest. See the FAQ at the very bottom of the page for additional shipping info and prices.
If you are new to the world of tabletop battle games, these starter sets provide everything you need to start a new gang in Blackwater Gulch. Our backing levels are mostly in increments of $30, thus for every $30 you may select the starter set of your choice, and get a savings of $5 per set off the retail price. If you don't have much in the way of terrain or scenery for the time period, we also offer limited bundles with GameCraft buildings. GameCraft makes laser-cut wood building kits, that are very easy to build and paint and really help bring the game to life. Most of all, they provide much needed cover for your gang members to hide in and behind!
Here are a few sculpts for the Clancy Gang, with figures by Brother Vinni, Bob Naismith and Pedro Ramos. You can expect the Vigilance Committee figures to be of the same quality, if not better!
Also, here is the new sculpt for the Wrassler, by Patrick Keith. This is the 5th miniature in the Clancy Gang set. As soon as I have them all in hand I'll take a picture of everyone together.
And, here are a few of the GameCraft buildings that will be included in the higher priced backing levels.
Here is some concept art for some of the upcoming Vigilance Committee figures, done by Jason Kingsley, William Stewart, C Wilson Trull and Shane Tyree.
This is just the beginning. With your help, we plan to release many different sets following all sorts of stories and themes. Native Americans, Mexicans, Hillbillies, Soiled Doves, Gold Miners, Army Rejects... there are so many options! And in addition to box sets, we also intend to release additional figures to go with each set, sold in add-on packs of 2 or 3 figures.
Our funding goal of $3500 reflects the costs involved with getting one box set done, from start to finish, in addition to Kickstarter's fees. It includes the artwork, sculpting, boxes, printing and enough figures produced for at least 100 copies, which is about how many we need to sell to break even.
We have so many fun projects planned, and it's all riding on this project getting off it's feet. We hope you will see the potential in a fast, fun and easy to learn game and offer your support!

The characters can be almost anything you want. The only catch is it has to fit into the game, for example, there's no aliens, sparkly vampires or droids living in Blackwater Gulch, or in any secret caves underground. Your character(s) would also have to be equipped with weapons in the game, or similar items that would have the same stats. You can base the character on yourself and it can have your real name. Or you can make up your own based on a favorite book or movie hero. If you go that route, we won't be able to use the exact name of a well known character just to be safe, we don't want to run into any copyright issues, but it can be changed slightly so that people still know who you mean. For example, if you want a character based on The Swede from the TV show Hell on Wheels, we could do a model that looks like him and his name could be The Norwegian instead (Too late though, we're already planning to do that one... :). If you want the character to be based on yourself, we will need you to sign a little agreement that gives us the right to use your name and/or likeness. We just want to have all the bases covered.
As far as game stats go, your single character will have the same XP in the game as a gang leader, and the model will be a "Hired Gun", a special character that can be added to anyone's gang. Hired guns are like a professional with 100 XP, they don't gain the "leader" skills, but they do have 3 HP & DP. You can choose what the other stats are and the profession.
If you want to build your own gang, all of the above applies, and also keep in mind the gang should have the same format as the other sets. That means, you need 1 Gang Leader, 2 Professionals and 2 Henchmen. If you want to base the gang on you and your friends, or family, we'll need an agreement form from each of them. And, it will be up to you to decide who gets to be the leader. Or, it might be best to just let the wife pick... :)
The plan for the buildings was going to be:
$45 & $75 backers: get 1 1-story building
$90 backers: get 2 1-story buildings
$125, $150 & $180 backers: get 2 1-story buildings and 2 2-story buildings
$250, $500 & $1000 backers: get 3 1-story, 2 2-story and 1 large building (such as the Saloon or the Livery)
I've got the shipping estimates worked out. As I mentioned before, I'll pay for the first $5 of shipping, so the prices below reflect this. For US customers, I plan to ship using USPS Bulk Rate shipping except for the lowest levels that will just get shipped in a padded envelope. For International customers, I can also use the same bulk rate boxes, but it does get real expensive real fast, so you have the option of also using standard air mail which will be slower and untrackable, but cheaper. However, any package over 4 pounds must be priority/flat rate mail. To pay for shipping, you can either just add the amount to your pledge, or we can handle it when the order is ready to go out via Paypal or some other means. This is actually preferable as my numbers could be off a little or the postal service might decide to change some rates just because they can, and I can use your Paypal pament to also print out a handy shipping label for you too!
SInce the Clancy Gang set will be released before the others, you also have the option of getting this first. Your $5 shipping will apply to whichever shipment you want if you want to split them up, but I can only afford to give the $5 once, so it might be cheaper to wait for everything. It's all up to you!

That should do it. Of course, I'll work with you to get it as cheap as possible and if you would prefer some other method like UPS or FedEx, just message me and we'll figire out out.
Last but not least, if you add your shipping to your pledge and shipping ends up being a lot cheaper in the end (especially for International folks) I'll refund the difference.. I can send it via Paypal, or give you store credit for later purchases, or whatever you like.
When the Kickstarter campaign is over, I'll be contacting each and every backer to go over your order. If you would rather swap out building kits for something else, like a hardcover rulebook, you certainly can.
Since the building kits very limited, and other backers may want them, if you would rather have a rulebook then please change your pledge to one that features only starter sets ($30, $60, $90 or $120) and then add an additional $30 to your pledge to cover the book.
So, for example, if you wanted 4 box sets plus a rulebook, just choose the $120 level and then add $30 more to it making it $150 total.
