About this project
THE GAME - OVERVIEW
Dissolution has occurred in the Vikings homeland; the country´s resources are depleted and there is turbulence in the society. The High Jarl has invited a group of brave people the opportunity to try their luck in a newly discovered group of islands. The islands are rich of natural resources and your task is to gain control of these resources from the Barbarian tribes currently occupying the area. The takeover is to be done in any way possible; through trade, religious conversion or direct conflict. If you manage to overtake areas peacefully, the Barbarians might join your clan and aid you in your task. There are areas through the island that stand neutral against any invaders and there you can buy or sell resources & learn runes. During the game, your clan tries to build up their region and over shine their rivals with vast riches and wealth. At the game end, the winner is the Clan Leader who receives most Glory points, through areas gained, building upgrades & most gold collected!
Bardagi: The Claim for Gold is a card-driven, area management, adventure board game for 2-5 players, played in a number of rounds. Each player controls a Viking Clan; a Berserkur (your warrior), a Godi (your priest), a Kaupmadur (your merchant) and Knerrir (your Viking ship). Players receive 6 cards for each unit, total of 24 cards, and throughout the game these cards are used for each action of the corresponding unit. One action per unit - one card laid down. You can lay down any card type each round, maximum of 6 cards in the early stages of the game. At the beginning of the 5th round and onward, the number of cards you can lay down each turn is increased to 8 cards. Each clan has its own Player board, a Viking village where they can upgrade their units and store their goods. During the game, players overtake the areas surrounding their village to gain resources. Players gain resources each round, according to the areas owned, and with these resources they can reload the unit shields, that are needed to overtake other areas, defend their current areas, improve their buildings, buy runes or trade resources in for gold. The aim of the game is to collect as many glory point as possible within the given rounds. Most gold owned, combined with other point collections, declare the winner at game end.
THE MAIN BOARD
The Bardagi main board shows one main island and a few smaller islands in the surrounding area. On the board you can also see trade tables and round counter spiral. Areas on the board are divided into different resource areas; gold mines (that yield gold coins), forest (that yields timber), quarries (that yield stones), iron mines (that yield iron), sheep pastures (that yield meat or wool) and cattle pastures (that yield hide or food).
The map also displays your town as an area in your color, harbors, where your Knerrir starts and ends his sea journeys, raiders camps, that can be conquered to gain additional defense, ancient monasteries, where you can buy runes that can aid you and local villages that you can claim to gain new units for free each round.
Some areas on the map are harder to reach than others due to impassable mountains, rivers (that can only be passed over bridges) or islands that can only be reached by sea.
THE PLAYER BOARDS
Each player receives a player board that represents that players home town. Surrounding the player board there is the storage space for the resources you gain during the game & your score chart for glory points gained or lost during the game. In the center you have your town, your three main buildings and empty areas where up to 6 building upgrades can be placed, 2 of each building type.
The three buildings; Verslun (Kaupmadur storage), Virki (Berserkur stronghold) & Hof (Godi temple). Here is where you control your units and store their shields. In the beginning of the game each player has 6 shields on each of these three buildings that are used by the corresponding units to overtake areas and claim them to gain resources. As the game progresses the shields can be refilled with the required resources when they get used and depleted.
During the game, you can improve your buildings with building upgrades. The building upgrades give you glory points & certain benefits for the corresponding unit (as seen above, the Berserkur - your warrior, can have one extra shield on his Virki) that are unique to the player that bought it. You also gain more shields (units to use) with each upgrade bought. up to the maximum of 10 shields on each building type.
Berserkur is your warrior and he attacks other players and areas. Berserkur is the only unit that can attack areas that have more than one shield or defense tokens on it. Berserkur is your only defense, unit as Godi and Kaupmadur never participate in direct conflict. Berserkur can fight against another for the Glory!
Bersekur overtake areas through battles! Each player has 6 Berserkur cards.
Kaupmadur is your Merchant. He can trade resources for other resources or Gold. Merchant can also refill all other units and buy building upgrades. Kaupmadur can overtake areas through trade, but he can never enter areas that have other battle units on them, like Berserks, raiders or defense tokens. Each player has 6 Kaupmadur cards.
Godi is your divine unit, your priest. He can overtake areas through convert and one unit joins your group in the process, Godi has also the ability to give you one extra resource from the area he is occupying at the beginning of the turn. Most importantly, Godi can cast runes that can both aid you and harm other players areas. Each player has 6 Godi cards.
Knerrir enables your to move your units along sea routs to the surrounding islands or to make a swift ocean attack against your rivals. Knerrir never participates in direct conflict and never enters land. He is only used as your sea transport. Each player has 6 Knerrir cards.

Here is a short video overview!
WHAT DO THEY SAY ABOUT THE GAME?
The game is at an advanced stage of development and we already play-tested it with some board gamers. Below, we present their opinions, together with some preliminary comments from BGG forums and Geek lists, board game magazines and experts who still did not have the chance to play the game, but only saw a presentation of it. Gamia Games will be at SPIEL 15 with some prototypes of Bardagi ready to be played. Hopefully, we will be able to collect additional feedback and post it here.
" Awesome game! Wait, can we play it again? I want to try something different!" - Hildur Hreinsdóttir, one of many play testers.
" I really like the art style in this one. The central island map that you'll be fighting over is gorgeous. Check it out." - Mike Minutillo, BGG - Kickstarter Weekly summary blog.
"A gorgeous game !! Fantastic artwork, beautiful miniatures, a Viking theme that I love, ...Really need to check this out !!!!" - Dirk Rieberghs, BGG - Stresses for Essen geek list.
Gioconauta, an important Italian resource for board gamers, is intrigued by the variety of strategies that can be pursued through the game play.
"Maybe it looks more like a Norse Mithology game, than a Viking game, but the artwork is phenomenal"..- Sam Healy, Dice Tower - Essen Spiel 2015 games preview.
"Look at that board! It is amazing!.... Fantasy fighting and I am happy about that" - Tom Vasel, Dice Tower - Essen Spiel 2015 games preview.
If any of you happens to be at SPIEL, in Essen, or if you live near Malmö and want to visit us, please just drop us a line. We will be happy to organize a play-testing session for you!
HOW TO PLAY!

SHIPPING AND HANDLING
The basic shipping costs has been applied to the pledge. Once the Kickstarter campaign is finished, kindly allow us to calculate the exact costs when taking into account all the unlocked stretch goals and optional purchases. Some shipping cost might slightly increase.
Free Shipping is to EU, USA, Canadian and Australian locations for the Jarl Bundle and The Viking Elite supporters. Other locations pledging for these will receive a shipping quote at the end of the campaign. If we receive a large group of supporters from any one country or area, this cost might also be limited.
We will do our utmost to ensure that your products arrive on time, before the public release of the game. However, we are aware that some problems concerning shipping and production may arise that are outside of our sphere of influence. If we cannot guarantee that all backers will receive their copy of the game before the general release, then we can, at least, guarantee that you will be benefiting from a great discount and some exclusive Kickstarter only features that might unlock. The commercial version of the game might include less material than the Kickstarter one. If these special contents and prices are not sufficient when compared to the risk of not being delivered on time however, then we suggest that you do not participate in this crowdfunding campaign and acquire the game when it is released in shops.
Thank you for your understanding.
Risks and challenges
In short, the game is 99% finished!
Bardagi - The claim for Gold has been in development for a few years. Since the first idea came, the game has developed dramatically as is usually the case with many great games. The game has been tested and played with a mixed group of people to get the simple yet strategic game play into good and smooth game experience.
We already have a manufacturer that is waiting for our final signal and financial obligation to mass manufacture the game. One member of our team has used the same manufacturer for three other projects that has been mass produced. All the artwork for the basic version has been completed and the artists are eagerly waiting to work on more art work, if new stretch goals will be unlocked.
Our final test will be in Spiel 2015 in Essen Germany now in October, when we will display and introduce the 99% final version to board gamers from around the world. After that, we will make all necessary final adjustment to the game before production.
Like with all projects, chances are that something will go wrong. The team behind Bardagi - The claim for Gold, have many years of experience in creating, managing and launching projects so any issues that come along will be dealt with accordingly and solved. The only reason for this project not to be released is if it does not get financed.
