About this project
Shadowrift: Archfiends pits the heroes of legend directly against the master of each faction bent on destroying the city of Haven. In addition to the monsters faced during the course of a regular game, the heroes must now contend with the Archfiend's scheming and personal onslaught, and once the Shadowrifts are sealed... the heroes must defeat the terrifying villain in final mortal combat.
Archfiends expands the cooperative deckbuilding game Shadowrift. It introduces new and powerful Archfiends with their own decks, allowing them to wade into the middle of the heroes and wreck all their plans for saving the town!
The Archfiends Have Arrived
In addition to the usual setup, take the deck of Archfiends cards and Archfiend Boss Rules card associated with the monster faction you’ve chosen (the card backs will match).
Shuffle and set the deck face-down near the Monster deck. Leave room beside the deck as it will also have a discard pile. On the opposite end of the Monster Attack area, set the Archfiend Boss Rules card. This gives you reminders about the added rules for Archfiends, as well as having an extra effect that causes trouble for the heroes.
The Archfiend Step
- Play it. The card goes into play next to the Rules card.
- Avoid it. The card goes face-down under the Rules card. However, the player must draw another card.
- Block it. The card, and the top card of the Archfiend deck, go face-down under the Rules card.
The Final Battle
- Flip the monster deck face-down and/or set it aside. The rifts are sealed; only the monsters on this side remain. From here on, the Monsters Gain Power and Add New Monsters steps will no longer happen.
- Because there are no Shadowrifts to return to, monsters will not leave town. All monsters gain Rampage as part of their Step 3 action. Any monsters currently on Step 3 immediately move to the Start space.
- Reveal the cards you have placed under the Rule card. Each Archfiend has a set of bonuses it gains based on the symbols you have given it by avoiding or blocking cards during the game.The Archfiend now sits above the Start space. It acts last during the Monsters Act step.
Shadowrift: Archfiends comes with six decks of special Archfiends cards - One deck for each monster faction - As well as six Boss Rules Cards, revealing your true foes.

Risks and challenges
As we enter the crowdfunding phase, Shadowrift: Archfiends is nearly "Print Ready". Certain stretch goals will require additional art if we fund at those levels, so we have set an extended delivery date to be on the safe side. Every game project is subject to potential production delays, but we believe we've allowed enough wiggle-room for Shadowrift: Archfiends.
