Robert Harrington, the designer, and everyone here at Springboard wants to thank you for your generous support of our Serpent Stones project. This has been a seven-year labor of love and it is amazing to see it all come together at last. Just before the world ends in December, you should be able to play your very own copy of Serpent Stones and, if the gods are pleased, they may decide not to destroy the Earth.
The game comes with six punchboard arrowheads to keep track of the best three out of five matches, but if we can reach a $7,000 funding stretch, we can include six hand-cast resin "Teotl Power Stones" that will be much nicer. These turquoise and obsidian colored power stones will sit within your Temple Stone space on the game board, giving power to your warriors and knights in their war against your opponent. Each time you win a round, take one of your opponents Teotl Stones. when you have stolen all of his Teotl Stones and drained him of all his power, you are the true ruler of the Serpent Stones!
The images above are a mock up of the look we're going for. The actual Teotl Stones may be a little different, but they will be WAY COOL.
Serpent Stones is a fast-paced, head-to-head tactical card combat game of Aztec warriors, gods and supernatural combat. Based on a little known 600-year-old Mesoamerican board game, you must battle to control your opponent's temple stone. Strike, capture and sacrifice as you outwit and outmaneuver your opponent to achieve glorious victory!
As head priest of an Aztec warrior house, you must command a specialized team of Aztec warriors in ritual combat on the Serpent Stones battlefield to satisfy the gods. Drawing on the power of teotl from your temple stone, your warriors can wield specialized nahualli animal attacks to strike or capture opposing warriors standing in your team’s way of capturing your opponent’s temple stone. The gods may show you favor by giving you an advantage during battle, but will it be you or your opponent that quenches their insatiable blood thirst today?

These arrowhead victory stones are great for keeping track of how many games you've won out of a match (best of 3 or best of 5). Each player starts with 3 victory stones on their Temple Stone. You need to collect 3 of your opponent's stones to win a match.
The Serpent Stones expansion includes Barriers, which block off parts of the board, along with additional cards and variants for the game.
- 2 Tlazolteotl: Stop Sacrifice cards
- 2 Xolotl: Move Warrior cards
- 2 Mictlantecuhtli: Wall of Skulls cards
- 1 Nahualli: Eagle Strike card
- 1 Nahualli: Butterfly Capture card
- 4 Wall Of Skulls tiles
Depending on the variant, 2 barriers can be placed at the beginning of the game, 1 per player. (Or, players can choose not to use the additional 2 barriers.)
New Game Variant(s):
Sacrifice & Stop Sacrifice: In the standard version of Serpent Stones, the Sacrifice must be EXECUTED on the turn immediately following a turn where a single or double sacrifice was INITIATED.
This new variant allows players to 'INITIATE AND HOLD' a sacrifice indefinitely until they are ready to EXECUTE. The catch is, if a player plays the Tlazolteotl Stop Sacrifice card, ALL CARDS sitting on their opponent's sacrifice stones must be discarded.
Wall of Skulls - Setup: Before play begins, both players have the option of placing 1 Wall of Skulls barrier piece on any stone of the battlefield EXCEPT for stones in the Temple Rows.
Wall of Skulls - In-Game: During play, when a player plays a Mictlantecuhtli Wall of Skulls card, the player can place a Wall of Skulls barrier anywhere they could play a valid warrior card (except on the Temple Rows.)
Wall of Skulls barriers cannot be moved or removed from the stone where the were placed until that game ends.
Wall of Skulls barriers can be used to prevent a pending sacrifice attack from an opponent.
Nahualli Eagle Strike: This strike is extremely useful against players who take a defensive tactic and line up as many warriors as they can to defend their temple stone. Like the Jaguar/Hummingbird cards, it can be rotated when performed.
The Serpent Stones Medallion is a limited edition, heavy-duty, unique token to represent your support of the launch of Serpent Stones. A limited quantity of these Medallions will be made for the launch of the game and once they're gone, they will not be made again!
Play like the Aztecs with an authentic handmade terra cotta replica of ITZCOATL, the 600 year-old inspiration for Serpent Stones. This deluxe replica will be a treat for history buffs and gamers alike. Only 25 copies of Itzcoatl will be produced, so don't miss your chance to receive this amazing reward.
The handmade terra cotta board can be made in a variety of colors and includes a leather pouch with 60 cast-resin arrowheads. You will also receive the Serpent Stones game, the Serpent Stones expansion, and the Serpent Stones medallion.
Our initial goal of $5,000 will help offset the costs of production. We have more Stretch Goals to come as we move forward to make the game and expansion even more awesome!
