About this project

Last November we ran a Kickstarter campaign for Nothing Personal, a board game designed by Tom Vasel and Stephen Avery. The project was wildly successful and pushed our art team to the limits to get all the work done.  Well, the art is now complete!

To celebrate, we're creating a commemorative deck of Nothing Personal Gangster Art Playing Cards. This deck will be printed by U.S. Playing Card Company, known around the world for their Bicycle Brand playing cards. We'll print this deck once only, and that's it.

Each deck will bear the Bicycle trademark on the tuck box and will be sealed with a black seal bearing the signet ring seal of the Capo of the Five Families. The Capo himself has authorized these decks!

Every card (except the Aces and Jokers) features a piece of detailed character art from the Nothing Personal board game, and each suit is made up of cards from the Thugs, Conmen, Hitmen, and Gambler gangster types. Here are the A K Q J 10 for each suit to give you a peek at what the deck of Nothing Personal Gangster Playing Cards has to offer.

When we ran the Kickstarter campaign for Nothing Personal, many backers pledged at levels where their images were added to the game. Many of those custom images are present in this deck of playing cards, too, giving them more bang for the pledge dollars.

You may already know that decks printed by USPCC come with 56 cards. There are the regular 52 playing cards, 2 Jokers, and usually a gaff/silly cards and a double-sided back-art card. We decided to take those last two cards and make them into two extra Jokers. Why? Our first update will include a challenge to the backers to invent a card game with a gangster theme that uses all 56 cards. If we hit our goal, we'll publish the best backer game ideas in a free PDF that we'll send to every backer and post on the Nothing Personal page over at GameSalute.com.

Below you will find details about the different pledge levels available in this campaign. From decks to dealer buttons, we've got you covered. And, if you're wondering about the game itself--you can find a pledge that gets you in on that, as well.

What about stretch goals?  It's hard to predict how our very first Bicycle Playing Card project will go. Will we even make the initial goal to print the minimum number of decks? If we go beyond our goal we'll explore ways to make the deck even more special–metallic ink would be cool. We'll also look at other secondary products like custom dice or deck boxes that you can add on to your pledges.  Let's start by making the initial goal and then we'll start pimping out the goods.

Risks and challenges

This is our first deck of playing card but the process is much like producing any other game, and we have that pretty well sussed out. We've got our ducks lined up with USPCC and the art is already done. We expect things to proceed fairly smoothly.

Of course, there are still a lot of ways our project–any project, really–can stumble between launch and delivery. We try very hard to anticipate those hiccups and plan ways around them. If anything does set our schedule behind, however, we'll keep you well informed.
