Thank you everyone for your support, but sadly it wasn't enough. We will not re-launch the project to try to fund a full print run within the next two years, but we will try to run a smaller Kickstarter for a semi-home made edition before that. When this will happen is still not certain, but more information will be posted on Facebook, Twitter, the game website and on our email list when the time comes. With some luck we can do it relatively soon.

Privateers! is a cooperative / team / solo pirate adventure board game on an alternate Earth overrun by monsters, magic, Atlantean relics, aliens, demons and cultists of the Old Gods. Players control privateer captains with ship and crew. They fight each other, or the game with its great fleets and numerous supernatural allies.
Captains battle the enemy navies, fight infamous pirates, explore old ruins, raid settlements, trade and generally have a good time in the port cities of the New World. The better the ship, crew and equipment they get, the more powerful they become, but sooner or later they will have to face the best the enemy can muster!
- Do you like heavily thematic games with immersive gameplay? Then Privateers! might be what you are looking for! It takes place in setting filled with a healthy mix of endless possibilities, absurdities, horror, action, history and adventure.

The Core Game
The core set contains around 500 cards and 370 markers, plus English rules, modular game board, score board, dice and 12 minis.
This list may grow and the quality of the components may increase when certain stretch goals and Achievements are unlocked. The ship minis and the special sites miniatures upgrades are among the most important ones.
The Forgotten Treasures Booster
This special booster pack, the Forgotten Treasures, is delivered as a bonus item with no extra charge to everyone getting the core set. It will not be sold in stores through normal channels. The only way of getting it is here, from a retailer getting the MERCHANT pledge, or later on through our web shop for 150 SEK / $18. It will be available in our web shop a few months after the backers have received it, to make sure most backers will get it first.

This special Kickstarter booster can be acquired by getting the BUCCANEER pledge level or higher. After the campaign a limited stock will be available through our web shop for 150 SEK / $18 plus shipping. It will be sold in our web shop a few months after the backers have received it.

The price for a pledge for an EU citizen includes VAT. No customs and import taxes are paid by you when you get your package!
Choose Add-ons you want. Write it down. Add the value of the chosen Add-ons to your pledge. You can use our Pledge Calculator below to calculate your total pledge. We will take your options through a so called Pledge Manager after the Kickstarter closes.
Privateers! specific Add-ons. This list will grow after the main goal has been met. It will include things like metal coins and special pirate dice if they are unlocked. Booster packs like Caribs, Ships of the East and Mysteries of the Deep, as well as expansions like Old Powers and Pirates and Brigands will also end up here.
Extra Pledge Level Add-ons
Normally Kickstarter does not allow choosing more than one pledge level without the use of extra accounts. Now you can increase your pledge to get one or more extra basic pledge levels!
Swedish Language RPG Add-ons
We have created both games taking place in the same setting as Privateers! and games with their own setting. If you want any of them, you can add the value of the RPG Add-ons to your pledge and write it down somewhere. We will take your options after the Kickstarter ends.
IMPORTANT! Every game Myling has published so far is in Swedish. Please don't add them to your pledge unless you either know Swedish or are a collector of strange foreign games.
Please be aware that these Add-ons are shipped from Sweden. It will cost a lot to ship them to countries not part of the EU.
Stretch goals are extras and upgrades adding value to your pledge. When a goal is reached, it is "Unlocked" and backers either get it for free can increase their pledge to get it, depending on what it is. The stretch goal lists will grow as the goals are unlocked, squeezing out every last drop of value we can for you.
If the funding exceeds the main goal, extra money will go to the goals below. New goals will be added as lower ones are unlocked. We will always show the next two stretch goals plus a few big goals for you to strive for.
- Stretch goals marked "Free for Buccaneers" are standalone products all BUCCANEER (or higher) backers get as bonus items.
- Stretch goals marked "Core Upgrade" signifies an upgrade to the core box set at no extra charge.

We have a lot of things planned if it will come to that. Stretch goals have been specified up to and beyond what is theoretically possible (please feel free to prove us wrong). Famous Star Plugging the Game: This Achievement unlocks the only addition to the Buccaneers booster. Only relatively well known stars or artists count (someone in our team must have heard of them) and they must link to the Kickstarter or talk about Privateers!. We must be notified and given proof for it to count.
Other Achievements: The rest are straight forward Achievements giving Forgotten Treasures cards, an extra Promo Set, preview information about the setting and the game and even a large upgrade to Pirates and Brigands if we get that far!

It’s the golden age of piracy. The war is over and port cities all over the world are filled with unemployed soldiers and sailors. They will do anything to survive and get rich, and many take their chances on the high seas. They live short and violent lives, at least those without the protection provided by a letter of marque.
Privateers! is an exciting pirate game in the Golden Age of Piracy. You take the role of a privateer for a mighty colonial power.
You get a ship and a crew from the crown, to be able to plunder and burn your way across the Caribbean. If you do it right you will lead your country to victory and complete domination in the area.
Beware of your enemies though. Pirate hunters, mighty warships and legendary pirates will try to stop you at every turn. Even aliens and the unspeakable horrors from beyond our world will work against you and try to see to it that your colonial power is cast out from the area.
So load your musketoon, take your cutlass and gather yer mateys. For war and strife is about to engulf the Caribbean Sea.
Privateers! is a game for one to six players. It can be played like a normal competitive game with two or three players, a team against team game with three to six players, a solo game for the lone player or a fully cooperative game for two to six players. Cooperative mode works best with two to four players. For more players, team play works better.
The players take the role of privateers for one or more of four great colonial powers. These are Great Britain, France, Spain and The Dutch Republic. Each player chooses a captain, buys a ship and recruits a crew. Their goal is to beat the other colonial powers and make sure that they never show up in the area again. To accomplish this they plunder colonies, conquer enemy ships and hunt both pirates and merchant ships for treasure and glory.
The game board is created using map tiles and is dynamically generated to make sure no one game is the other alike. Attacks and rolls to succeed are handled using dice pools.
The captain has three values: Combat, Cunning and Health. Each playable captain has two sides, one female and one male with the same abilities and stats, just to add more options.
Each ship also has three values: Sails, Cannons and Hull. Ships can always be upgraded, lost, sunk, bought, traded and conquered. Crew is handled using crew cards and a ship can take as many of those cards as it has Hull.
Battles are handled using battle cards and dice (quick battle rules using only dice are available if needed, though), random events are handled using event cards and actions taken by the game itself is handled using special influence cards and ship markers.

Beta Rules Booklet

This is a Beta rulebook where pictures and some texts still are missing or unfinished. Nothing has been proofread or properly edited yet. Since we are not native English speakers and the translator's fingers sometimes lose connecting to her brain and start writing gibberish, errors will be found. Proofreading and proper editing will be handled by skilled professionals before publishing.

The setting is made to instil a sense of wonder and adventure. It is also made to be absurd and over the top, spiced with horror, action and a hint of humour.

Myling Games: Myling Games (also registered as MylingSpel in Sweden) is owned by the Swedish couple Tina and Jörgen Engström. Focus lies on RPGs and board games. It is a small press game company with five years in the business. During that time we have published seven roleplaying games with supplements. We have run seven successful crowdfunding campaigns before for different games and supplements under the names MylingSpel and Tina Engström on FundedByMe (Leviathan, Skuggornas mästare, Skeppskortleken) and Indiegogo, and the names Myling Games - Tina Engström and MylingSpel - David Berkvist here on Kickstarter. We have also opened a brick and mortar shop in the little town of Kalmar in Sweden.
SagaGames: SagaGames is a partner we are about to merge with under a bigger company. They are handling news contacts and a some communication jobs. The have published the roleplaying games Saga, Fantasy!, Svenska kulter and Äventyr in Swedish, and Fantasy! - Old School Gaming in English.
Gamerati: Gamerati is the partner we have teamed up with to help us with advertisement and help us get access to dollar payments here on Kickstarter.
Jörgen Engström: Jörgen owns Myling Games. He seldom starts his own projects, but jumps in where needed. He often handles proofreading, and sometimes writes or illustrates. Jörgen works as a mail man during the day.
Tina Engström: Tina is a slightly eccentric artist and geek. She is retired since a few years due to a chronic genetic disease called Ehlers-Danlos. She is in constant pain and have trouble controlling her body. Despite this she needs to create to not start chewing on the furniture. Tina is multi talented and can handle painting, writing, programming, designing, creating rules and putting things together. Privateers! and almost half of Myling Games' published products are her creations.
Robert Jonsson: Robert Jonsson is probably the most productive member of the team. He is the author of Bortom: Lögnens slöja and Leviathan, plus a few supplements to both his own and Tina's games.
Krille: Krille is a friend who will help with an assortment of things, including communications on BGG and some forums.
John "Trolle": John is one of the owners of SagaGames and has written both role playing games and supplements, as well as text adventures and simple arcade style PC games. John is also a board, role playing and arcade games collector.
Yvonne Undin: Yvonne is our official Kickstarter assistant and communicator.
Ellen Svensson: Ellen is our second Kickstarter assistant. She will help with communication and answering questions.
Ed Healy: The Gamerati marketing expert.
The Others: Myling Games and SagaGames have a few partners, employees and team members not part of the Privateers! project. They will help spread the word, but that's about it. This includes David Bergkvist, Terje Nordin, Niklas Gerholm, John A Jonsson, Daniel Lehto, Tomas Arfert, and a bunch of freelancers.
Here is the breakdown. We have limited savings to take from to finance part of the game ourselves and must get money for the entire project to be sure to succeed.
50 to 60 % of the main goal will go to printing costs (a game of this magnitude is costly). About 20 to 25 % will go to Kickstarter fees, payment fees, partner shares and taxes. The rest will have to finance pictures, sculpts, marketing, hardware needed and software.
We will be charging shipping after the Kickstarter concludes based on the actual shipping costs. We will collect this via our pledge manager when the game is almost ready to be shipped out from the factory so we can be fair to everyone.
We will ship your rewards at international hubs. From there it will go out to you, the backer. The plan is to ship from within the USA and the EU. We will probably be able to ship from within China and maybe Australia as well, and will ship from within individual countries with a certain number of backers. The goal is to minimize customs fees for as many of you as possible.
Be aware that we cannot ship to PO Boxes domestically or internationally. The package is in many cases too big and we don't want to risk it being returned to us. We also cannot ship to war zones, blocked off areas, and areas without courier or postage services.
We will do our best to send the rewards to you as fast as possible, but there is always a risk of the game making it into distribution before you get it. Estimated time of delivery is September 2016.
Here are some estimated costs for the a normal BUCCANEER pack (around 4 kg of pure gaming fun)
- USA: $10-$15. Double that for Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.
- CANADA: $10-$20.
- LATIN AMERICA: $50-$60 to most countries.
- CHINA: $10.
- REST OF ASIA: Around $30.
- AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND: $15-$30.
- AFRICA: $70 to most countries.
- EU: $10-$30 UK, GERMANY and SWEDEN lies at around $10.
- NON-EU EUROPE: $35-$70
Please note that this is only an ESTIMATE and that it will increase if we unlock a lot of stretch goals. If we just reach the base goal without unlocking the first stretch goals, another $5 or so will be added to the estimate to pay for our customs and shipping fees.
Of course you can help! Without you we cannot succeed. That is why we are using Kickstarter in the first place. The obvious is of course to pledge some money, just to be generous, or as a perfect way of getting the game with some nice add-ons.
The chance of us reaching the goal will be much higher if you help spread the word. We are almost as thankful for this kind of help as we are for pledges. So please feel free to talk about the game on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Tumblr, LinkedIn, Flickr, DeviantArt, VK, Reddit, local message boards, blogs and similar social sites. We will happily accept interviews if that helps you spread the word.
And don't forget to use the Promo Tool to get some extra cards while helping us tell people about the campaign.
We could also use some practical help, primarily after the campaign. We primarily need illustrators, sculptors, and such to be able to complete the game faster and send it to you as quickly as possible.
Grab one of these cool pictures and use it as a profile image on Kickstarter, Twitter, Facebook, G+, your local message board or wherever you hang out! Make sure you tell anyone about the campaign if asked about the avatar.
Risks and challenges
Design, layout and rules texts are as good as finished. The game has been play tested for four years. Graphic design has been perfected over the same time period, with both small adjustments and large changes. We have contact with a few Chinese and American production companies for printing. And, we have experience with print production, distribution and sales.
The challenge is to make the rest happen. It is a tremendous amount of work, but we are positive we are resourceful enough to be able to send you a really exciting game. We have, after all, a lot of gaming nerds, sales persons, developers and cats at our disposal.
This is also our 9th crowdfunding project, so we have some experience running them and know most of the pitfalls. Four of the projects are still under development, or are partly delivered. Each project is independent of each other and have different development teams.
Timing: Even if the project is finished and sent to the manufacturer in time, there is always a risk of delays - production delays, shipping delays, customs delays and even fulfillment delays. The estimated delivery date is September 2016, but keep in mind this is only an estimate. Also note that backers in different parts of the world will get their rewards sooner than others. This is unavoidable due to the way the logistics of international shipping works.
Tina not being well: The only other real risk, not counting nuclear war, a asteroid strike, Cthulhu rising from Göta Älv and the end of the universe, is that Tina's chronic disease (as in non-fatal, but irritating) works in flare ups and might add a couple of months to the project. We have taken this into consideration and have people able to do much of what she does, but you never know with this kind of thing. If she is well the next few months, it might even go faster than planned.
Communication and Language: We are still Swedish. English is our second language, which often results in longer texts than necessary (and a few Swedish Chef moments from time to time). Being Swedish also means many of us are too polite and patient for our own good. But challenges can always be overcome and we have more people able to help us do that this time around.
Illustrators: Even though Tina is good enough to make any sort of artwork she isn't well and will in reality have trouble painting that much. This means we must find one or more artists to help her out.
Sculpts: There are at least 12 types if miniature figures in the game, up to around 30 or so if we reach a lot of stretch goals. However, we have only limited experience with miniature development and few contacts with 3D artists.
Fulfillment: The biggest challenge will most likely be fulfillment. It takes time and can be a potentially very complex project, depending on how many backers there are, what rewards, options and stretch goals are met.
We can refund you at any time after the campaign ends. A couple of weeks after the Kickstarter, we can refund backers completely. When Kickstarter closes their refund option, we can refund your pledge minus Kickstarter, payment and partner fees. This means we can refund 75% of your pledge at that time. However, if we have begun packaging your pledge for shipment, no refunds are possible as long as the component can be delivered. We will refund 75% of your pledge if it cannot be delivered at all.
After the Kickstarter refund system is locked, all refunds are processed in USD via PayPal only. If refund is impossible or fails, you will still get your reward or, if delivery is impossible, forfeit the entire sum.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
If you do not log in and confirm your pledge before we lock the pledge manager, we will not remind you again and will treat it as abandoned unless you contact us within a month after this. We will refund 75% of your pledge or ship the rewards from Europe if you contact us after this. If you do not contact us within a month after the pledge manager closes, we will treat your pledge as a gift and use it to make the game even better.
By pledging to this Kickstarter, you acknowledge that the final design, materials and content of the rewards, may change during development and may differ from what is presented during the campaign. Our responsibility is to ship the rewards you choose in the pledge manager system to you. You agree that title and risk passes to you upon delivery to a common carrier for the shipment, that you are responsible for import duties and other duties payable to relevant tax authorities, that you must provide correct address information and ensure this address is deliverable by normal methods.
