About this project
For a long, long time, goblins and fairies have lived in a magical world right beneath our noses. If you look hard enough, you can find rings of mushrooms, called “fairy rings”, which act as doors between their world and ours. Today, a gang of mischievous goblins escaped from the fairy ring, and it is up to YOU to send them back before they cause trouble! But an ancient spell of rhymes which transforms goblins into fairies and fairies into goblins makes this a trickier task than you might think…
David Sanhueza and Mike Maihack are once again teaming up, this time to create beautifully printed books based on the lively goblin and fairy characters from the hit family card game Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule!
With your support, we're creating the Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule, Cool For School Coloring Book. We have recruited cartoonist Josh Ulrich to convert all of Mike's beautiful illustrations of mischievous goblins and adorable fairies from the game into B&W line art. They're being assembled into this deluxe coloring book for little artists everywhere.
We are also producing an unlimited, softcover edition of The Art of Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! This 100-page full-color book is a doorway into our magical world of goblins and fairies, and peels back the curtain on how these charming works of art came into being.
This project is perfect for fans of children's fantasy, and for collectors of great art. Books like these helped us discover and grow our own artistic talents when we were kids. And we sincerely hope that, through this project, we can contribute to the nourishment of your children's creative abilities and imaginations. Welcome to our colorful world of rhyme and reason!
Here's what we're making...
The Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule, Cool For School Coloring Book will be an 8.5 x 11 inch, 50-page, softcover book. Whether using crayons, markers, colored pencils, or coloring on the computer, your children will be able to bring these whimsical characters to life in their own unique style.
This book will far exceed the production quality you would expect from a typical store-bought coloring book. The pages will be clear white, on durable paper stock, encased by a perfect-bound glossy cover. This book, and the pages your family will color within it, will be printed to last.
Above are just a few of the pages patiently waiting to be colored by creative hands. Between the cute illustrations and funny descriptions, coloring this delightful book will be an activity your family will enjoy doing together!
The Art of Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! features all of the beautiful full-color illustrations from the game, raw sketches, insights into the world of fairies and goblins, interviews with the creators (us!), and a “behind the scenes” look at the creative process that went into the unique artwork.
Backers who pledge for The Art of GDFR! will receive an 8.5 x 11 inch book, perfect-bound with a glossy softcover.
We're bringing this softcover edition of the Art Book to Kickstarter, because we want to share it with a larger audience. We are very proud of the unique quality of Mike's illustrations, and the contents of this book that Mike and David put together.
If we successfully reach our funding goal, we will be able to print this book in larger quantities than the previous limited-edition. A larger print volume translates into a lower price point, making the book more affordable to more readers. The lower price point will also greatly increase our chances of getting the Art Book into wider distribution through book stores.
The hardcover version of The Art of Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! was a limited-edition reward created for the GDFR game Kickstarter. Less than 150 copies were ever printed.
This book is absolutely beautiful in person. Every copy reserved through this Kickstarter campaign will be personally signed and dedicated by either Mike or David (your choice!)
The digital books are an affordable and green way for you to support this project, explore our world of goblins and fairies, and obtain all of this amazing artwork. Every pledge level for physical rewards will also include digital copies of both books.
Coloring Books received from the "Old Man Sock", "Rhyme And Reason", and "I Am The Goblin King" pledge levels will come with a page hand-colored for you! You can pick the page, or leave it up to us. Just like the signed hardcover Art Books, you will have the option of choosing Mike or David to color and sign the page for you.
By pledging at the "I Am The Goblin King" level, you become an official member of our team. Your name will be added to the credits of both the Coloring Book and the Art Book. In addition to the credits pages, you will also be thanked on the back cover of the Coloring Book. You can be credited as a "Special Thank You", "Executive Producer", "Goblin King", "Fairy Princess", or anything else you suggest that is in the creative spirit of these books. This is just a small way for us to thank you for bringing this project to life with your generous pledge.
These colorful 11 x 14 inch prints are the perfect way to bring light and personality into the homes of fairy and goblin lovers like you. The "Rhyme And Reason" pledge level comes with 2 prints of your choice. The "I Am The Goblin King" pledge level includes prints of all 40 Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! characters, the Team Goblin illustration, and a new yet-to-be-revealed illustration. We know that these charming images will be treasured artifacts in your art collection. Unlike the standard prints available through Society6, these limited-edition Art Prints will be personally signed by Mike Maihack.
Made In The USA
All books and rewards created from this project are being printed in the U.S.A.
Mike created all of the original illustrations for this project. He is in charge of coloring and dedicating books for the upper-level pledges, as well as personally creating the art prints.
Josh is doing all of the inking for the Coloring Book, turning Mike's delicately-textured renderings of goblins and fairies into clean B&W pages for you and your children to color.
David is the editor for both books. He creates the layout, does the writing and graphic design, and handles the file submissions to the printer. He is also the primary point of contact for this project.

Tales from Far and Near
Tales from Far and Near is another Kickstarter project, currently running, that is creating a beautifully-illustrated children's book of fairy tales. In addition to the book, the artwork is also being offered as prints (including a bonus "Little Red Riding Hood" print by Mike Maihack!), and as a set of 26 postcards featuring every fairy tale character from the book.
The project creator has very generously donated multiple sets of the postcards for Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule backers!
All backers who pledge for the Cuckoo Clock ($60) or higher pledge level on our project, will automatically get a set of the 26 postcards included with your rewards, free of charge!
If your pledge level is lower than the $60 level, you can still obtain these postcards as an add-on. Just add $20 to your pledge, and send us a message letting us know that you want a postcard set (no additional shipping charge for international backers.)
Thank you for taking the time to look at our Kickstarter project. If you choose to support our hard work, we promise to deliver final products that we can all be proud to be a part of.
Telling your friends about us is another incredibly helpful way you can contribute to this project's success. Every backer counts!

Risks and challenges
More than half of the Coloring Book pages have been completed. Josh will be able to continue inking new pages through the duration of this campaign, and is scheduled to finish shortly after it ends. The files for the Art Book are already finished and ready for submission to the printer. From previous experience, we know what to expect from turn-around times for file submission and print proofing, and how long the printing and delivery of the books should take.
Based on our past book-making experience, and the plan we have put into place, we are confident that we can finish this project and deliver all rewards to you by our early-December deadline. However, should any unforeseen events cause a delay in our production schedule, we promise to tell you about it. We will let you know what is happening, what we are doing to resolve the issue, and how much of a delay you can expect. We're in this together, and want you to know that you can count on us as much as we're counting on you. Thank you!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
