Hi Everyone, thanks for the interest in my campaign. I'm Gamble Staempfli, creator of the UltraLink and several other pieces of authentic Everyday Carry gear, all of them brought to life by this same great community of individuals right here on Kickstarter. Thank you to my many repeat backers for their continued support and welcome to all who are new to my work, I hope you are intrigued by what you see here. It's been a long journey but my latest design is finally complete. This effort is unlike anything else I've done or have seen done, so I'm excited to share the UltraLink right now with all of you.
The UltraLink is a quick release belt clip for Everyday Carry (EDC). There are several versions. They differ by material or attachment method but all function to secure your EDC. Made from Titanium and/or aerospace grade Aluminum, The UltraLink brings space era metallurgy to civilian hands in the form of a personal accessory that is simple and secure. The UltraLink consists of two parts; the carriage, and the clip. Simply attach your keys to the clip with a split ring, insert the clip into the carriage, and attach the whole assembly to yourself or to your stuff. An integral spur on the clipped version prevents the unit from coming off unintentionally. The UltraLink was designed to appeal to fans of sci-fi inspired industrial design, but it will work for just about anyone.
Over my years working in this industry I've come to appreciate a little of the science of metal-craft. I've learned that centuries of thought and toil have gone into understanding the full potential of this crucial elemental material on which all humanity depends. What's most exciting for me personally is that working with metal today means having commercial options for all kinds of alloys and processes that have never been so accessible. There are those who say such truths have ushered in a Golden Age of Gear...I totally agree.
The design of the UltraLink calls for the use of at least two non-ferrous, modern alloys; Commercially Pure Titanium; (high strength, low weight, cold formable) and 7075T61 Aluminum (heat treated, stronger than most steels and incredibly light). As they should be, alloys like these are expensive and difficult to machine, after all they make space travel possible! They also make superior material ingredients for personal accessories like the UltraLink. The fact is this design would not function without the unique molecular properties these alloys impart to it's finished components.
The UltraLink reimagines and elevates the ubiquitous plastic "slide release" buckles found on contemporary gear bags, life vests and all kinds of modern products, but the UltraLink is designed as a dedicated, belt mounted EDC clip for keys and whatever other appropriate gear the user may want to carry. It provides a high ride alternative to the ocean of belt loop carry options out there, the most obvious of which is the carabiner. I've used carabiners on occasion to carry my keys and have found they have a tendency to wear out belt loops over time...they also hang too low and bang into things, and worst of all get snagged and sat on when getting in and out of the car. The UltraLink solves those problems.
The clip portion of the UltraLink comes equipped with a phosphorescent "Hyperglow" composite insert, available in your choice of any of the colors pictured here. This pigment saturated insert is bright by day and under the right conditions, by night as well. It charges passively while the UltraLink rides at your side, soaking up UV light throughout the day, then delivering it back in the form of an expressive, luminous glow that can help you locate your keys if it's otherwise too dark to see. Don't like the glow?...solid brass inserts will be offered as an upgrade in Backerkit. Glow colors are chosen in the final survey, which is delivered by email to every backer after the campaign closes. For your reference Green and Aqua are the brightest and longest glowing options. Red and purple are the dimmest and die quickly no matter how long they have charged. The other choices are somewhere in the middle. Once installed, the glow modules are not swappable.
Thanks so much to all my backers, old and new, for putting your faith and material support behind my campaign for the UltraLink!
Risks and challenges
I come to this campaign having successfully funded and fulfilled 8 previous Kickstarters. Should we succeed in funding this project, whether it will be ultimately fulfilled is not in question. The only potential impediment to "on time" delivery would manifest if we are heavily overfunded. Even if that does happen, I'm well enough connected to a reliable group of collaborators whom I am confident can help me get it all done in reasonable time. As always, I'll be sure to keep everyone informed with regular updates.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
