Tiny Wastelands & the future
It's been a while since we talked here. Someone kindly asked for an update, so here I am to provide one.
I'll note, this is important for context: GKG and Nocturnal Media separated. So we no longer are operating with Nocturnal's backing. Obviously this isn't a problem, I've fulfilled games before as my own company, but it does require a few steps.
With the financial backing of Nocturnal we had some ambitious stretch goals and print run numbers set up, even if the Kickstarter didn't achieve those numbers, we were prepared to bridge the gap, and overrun our printing, so we could sell at cons, stores and more.
That has to change. I can't operate on that same scale fiscally, and I can't risk the quality of the project. We've been redoing our budget and figuring out what we need to trim and where we can tighten up. Some of our stretch goals were ambitious (things like mass produced minis, extra books, or more). Those have to be removed, but our budget was carefully constructed around those items for the health of the long-term game.
While doing this, I realized that Tiny Dungeon 2e was prepped, and didn't have the same issues. We hadn't set ambitious stretch goals, running a project more in line with our standard TinyD6 kickstarters in the past.
So Tiny Dungeon 2e is my next Kickstarter as Gallant Knight Games. It's the right move. It'll be easier. There's less complexity. The budget is already worked out without the preexisting issues and changes.
I realize that's disappointing, but I also have to be honest and admit, between my work at Nocturnal (that is still ongoing) and my work at GKG, I've not had the time to prepare Tiny Wastelands for release the way I'd like.
Tiny Dungeon 2e is prepped the way I'd like, and it's up to my standards.
Tiny Wastelands is still coming back. Don't worry. We've got Tiny Dungeon 2e in September, and a licensed game coming out a few months later. The next Tiny Kickstarter after Tiny Dungeon will be Tiny Wastelands. By then, we'll be ready to do it right, and give you the game you deserve.
I'm sorry for the disappointing news, but please understand that we are doing our best under a difficult situation. I don't want to mislead anyone or run a project I'm not 100% prepared for.
I hope we can see you all on the Kickstarter for Tiny Dungeon 2e on September 5th! (In case you haven't seen it, here's the TD2e cover.)
