The creators of the awesomely successful 'Cthulhu Kids' are back on Kickstarter again! This time we're educating your little Elder Things in game play as well as Lovecraftian horror!
Cthulhu Kids: Cosmic Catastrophe is a great battle card game that introduces the concept of augmented attack scoring. With 24 character cards this exciting game is also a fantastic way to open up the mind bending universe of the Cthulhu Mythos!
- A great, all-ages, two player game
- Augment your powers with specialist cards
- High quality professional production
- Crazy far out illustrations by Andrew Pawley
- Suitable for friends and family
- 56 card basic deck
Now that we've fully funded we'll add these Kickstarter Exclusive Cards to every physical pledge!
The game is ideal for new players and a fun party or family game for the more experienced gamer.
Using dice, players add to attack and defence scores and can also augment their score with specialist power cards.
Peter Duncan (writer/ game designer) lives in Belfast, Northern Ireland and is a life long fan of all things comics, especially the British kids comics of the 70's & 80's. His encyclopedic knowledge of Lovecraft Mythos fuels his fevered imagination as he creates stories for Cthulhu Kids.
Peter famously sent a party of gamers into existential terror and madness whilst being Games Master of a game of 'Call Of Cthulhu'. The event took place in a remote and isolated cottage in Northern Ireland on a dark and stormy night. Members of the party have never been the same since!
Andrew Pawley (Artist/ game designer) lives in Dorset, England and is the creator of GalaXafreaks Comics. Andrew loves nothing more than slipping through wormholes, contemplating the enormity of existence and eating pizza.
Andrew has previously crowdfunded 13 issues of his comic GalaXafreaks and is no stranger to running a well organised Kickstarter that always fulfils to it's backers. He has also worked on the very successful Kickstarters for both C is for Cthulhu and Sink designing paper toys for both brands.
Peter and Andrew are massive gamers! Peter has had a long, long obsession with a whole universe of RPG scenarios and has a collection that is truly a sight to behold. Peter likes nothing more than to host epic sessions that foster a real immersive experience.
Andrew, on the other hand, is a competitive family/party game player. Any love or affection he may feel for his kids is straight out the window once the games come out! “They have to learn to win!” He’ll say, or “It’s not called Altruistic Scrabble, is it!”
Who Are the Cthulhu Kids?
A while back Peter and Andrew asked the question: “What would a Lovecraftian school for naughty offspring look like?” With that question in mind they set about creating Cthulhu Kids.
Set in The Miskatonic Academy for Outer Entities- the most exclusive school in the multiverse for the children of Elder Things and Outer Gods! Cthulhu Kids sees Kid Cthulhu, Sydney Shoggoth and the rest of the gang getting up to existential high jinx!
You can pick up a copy of the comic with some of our pledges in this campaign!
We’re hoping that the social aspect of game play will open up the world of H.P. Lovecraft to old and new fans through enjoyment and interaction with existing fans.
The game is completely finished and ready for production. We have under gone extensive game play testing with a range of player groups from young kids to older fans .
We've come to Kickstarter to raise awareness and funds for printing and distribution. And, of course, with your help we can spread the madness further.
What Is the Money Being Spent On?
Previous experience with my other successful Kickstarters means I have a good idea about the funds I need and how they will get spent! The majority of funds goes to printing and shipping.
There's a video explaining game play back up the page. But here is a bit more info for you!
Let's run through basic game play!
Cards are shuffled and handed out to players. Each player get five character cards and nine power cards. Each player also gets three life/death cards!
Players select a character card at random to play in a duel against their opponent.
Each character card has four different attack scores and players run through these in order, rolling dice to add to their score. However, players can also choose to play one of their power cards if they think they might lose an attack!
Players might even choose to play a Cultist or Paranormal Investigator card to change the score for the entire duel!
When a player loses an attack they turn over one life card. The first to three death card loses the duel and the victor keeps the character cards.

Risks and challenges
After successfully running 13 crowdfunding projects I have a good understanding of the demands and potential pitfalls involved in this kind of project.
I have plenty of experience in fulfilling all additional items like prints, stickers and models. I use a rigorous and organised system to ensure fulfilment is successful.
The biggest risk is an unforeseen delay in production & manufacture. That is why we have built in a buffer in our delivery schedule.
