Solo experience… with a vengeance!

Posted by Galakta (Creator)

Greetings Knights!

We are gathering strength for the upcoming finale of the campaign. Thanks to your great support, another Stretch Goal has been reached, thus providing all of you with 6 General Upgrade cards. These double-sided cards featuring 12 different abilities offer each knight a range of options to choose from, when they gain the required number of Experience Points. Instead of taking a card from their unique deck, a knight may pick any available General Upgrade, either to make up for their weakness, or to focus even more on one aspect of their character. The General Upgrades also allow you to twist your knight’s abilities and add even more flavor to their background.

With this SG behind us, we would like to show you something hidden right behind Jenny Burns, our elusive Huntress. Many of you have asked for more solo content, and now we can offer you a real treat. Once we reach $255,000, we will add something special to all copies of the game: a dedicated Solo Adventure: Road to Ruin, with approx. 100 new entries. Sit behind the steering wheel and roll along one of the last remaining highways of old Australia. This is going to be a trip you will never forget! This adventure will appeal not only to zealous solo players, but to everyone who loves open road and unexpected encounters. Considering your great support, we feel you will easy get to this SG!

While we are at this – many thanks for the great job you are all doing at our campaign page, at BoardGameGeek, and on social media! Your constant help turns into additional content in the game, and what is better than something you have devised yourselves? A couple of days ago you reached the Facebook social SG and gave us lots of ideas about a new enemy that would enter the wasteland deck. We had a hard time choosing, but here we are! You may take a peek at this monstrosity still being polished by Tomasz Ściolny, one of our talented artists.

We thought this one should reflect our love for the post-apocalyptic theme, the cult movie classic of the genre (we guess you all know what we had in mind ;-), as well as our willingness to show you, how close humanity is to turning into savage beasts. Behold  Frag'n'Hug, a pair of brutes leaving burnt down settlements and countless dead in their wake. This powerful enemy will bring you lots of XP… or will turn you into a bloody pulp! We hope Frag'n'Hug has been worth waiting for! We also wish to thank Cesar RC for being the first person to bring up this idea in the FB comments.

Well, that’s it for now. We have a few very busy days ahead of us and we count on all of you! You have proven that the Community can work miracles, and we are really thrilled to bring Waste Knights: Second Edition to you.

See you in the Waste!

I hope maybe the solo can be 1 or 2 players co-op, that way I can play an awesome story with just myself and my GF :)

@Game Aquisitor As always, we listen to all your comments. We will be posting progress on the game development so that you can see all is going in the right direction.

Of course Galakta Blasta needed to release Frag N' Hug! It's not the Pox-Eclipse with out em'! This has now become Waste Knights beyond KickstartaTown!

@Galakta Blasta, still really hoping you guys flavor up the upgrade cards with the cool cinematic sketches, look into putting the Waste Kights bold shredded font style for the main titles of the adventure books, and Add-on option for Painted Minis. Mates! I'm tellin' ya the backers with their cash will do nothing but fly your way aching to get those features!

Wow not every stretch goal has to be perfect for each individual... There are a lot of solo players out there, and this sounds like it will be more rewarding then playing the other scenarios in solo mode. So just accept that it's not for you but a lot of people will really appreciate this. I'm not against saying that it's not a goal for you but moaning about it isn't fair on the creators or solo players. This game is already full of coop and competitive play and so much has been added in stretch goals already.

Fiat 126p "Maluch" na pustkowiach post apokaliptycznej Australii? Hmm, czemu nie, szkoda tylko, że nie jest dostępny jako pojazd ;)

    6. Galakta Creator on

@All Thank you for all the feedback. Looks like all of you like our Frag'n'Hug (at least till they choose to actually hug you... then you might just feel the pain...). Regarding solo - we are doing our best to answer to your comments and suggestions. We know that solo mode is not popular with every player, but all the game content beside this SG can be played in a group and this is hardly the last SG on your path through ruined Australia.
Plus we really feel you will enjoy Road to Ruin. So, all in all, it will be just another milestone on your route and soon you will see what we have in store for you. You should not be disappointed.

    7. MadScientist

Love the look of that new enemy.

    8. Danny Shafer

As a solo player only, Thanks for the new SG!

    9. Galakta Creator on

@All This is not the final SG - it's just the one that is last visible ;-)

    10. Joe

I solo more than not, so I appreciate this dedicated mode of play. Thank you!

Great decision and great strech goal!! Thanks!!

    13. Rob

It's an excellent stretch goal. And who says it's the final stretch goal?

    14. spot on

The solo adventure is very much appreciated!!! For those that are disappointed by it, please remember that everything else in this campaign works for multiplayer. Having a dedicated solo adventure as a final sg doesn't take anything away from the game, it only adds to it. It also means a lot to solo gamers.

    15. Justin Boehm BLOODBORNE BACKER #1!

I’m all for having solo as an option, but not as the only option for a SG, make it at least have a normal variant to be played with 2 players or something, otherwise a lot of people will literally never use it or get to experience it.

    16. Marcin Cieślikowski on

@Galakta Can you make this adventure also for a larger number of players? It would be great !

    17. Dustin Crenshaw on

Very disappointing last stretch goal. The majority of your backers couldn't care less about this.

( love the single player stuff too)

    19. Pan Fantomas on

I play mostly solo so this is a great SG for me :) I just hope the rest of the game will also be as interesting as this for solo players :)

appreciate the update. glad to hear it will have a different feel from playing the existing adventures in 'solo mode'.

i've yet to really dive into solo board gaming but it seems like if there's a game to embrace it with it's this one!

"Regarding the shipping costs for multiple copies of the game – please give us a few more days, as we are still working on that." (this was posted 10+ days ago)

We are still waiting - or did we miss the news?

    23. Galakta Creator on

@All We realize some players love competitive games or do not like solo at all, but regarding what we have heard from you in the comments and the general trends in gaming where lots of players like the solo variant or even play only solo, we feel this is going to be a good addition to the game.
The game already contains co-op adventures that enable you to play solo, we wish to make Road to Ruin something special for those who like this style of gaming.

    24. Galakta Creator on

@Foster The new adventure will focus more on narrative, as 1 player has more time for reading and there is no down time in solo mode. Plus as we can "control" the game more easily, the story can be more branched, with options open only to certain knights so that you can play this adventure a couple of times and get different endings. It is going to be different from the solo mode in other adventures as there it is more about proper scaling of the game and here we will use tools to let player really feel the focus is placed on their experience alone.

      Who runs Boardgame Town?!

      Frag'n'Hug runs Boardgame Town!

    26. Justin Boehm BLOODBORNE BACKER #1!

Especially since some can already be played solo, this 255k SG is a bit disappointing to me if the only option for that story is solo...

    27. Justin Boehm BLOODBORNE BACKER #1!

@Galakta how about a solo adventure that can also be played co-op? Seems silly to make one that is only usable by a portion of players...

    28. Charles Lee Ray on

I mostly play solo so great st for me

    29. Kevin Hinners on

I’m really happy with the new solo only adventure scenario. Thank you for supporting the solo board gaming community!

    30. Leo Borg on

I agree, would be nice for some of the final stretch goals to be component upgrades.

    31. Ivan on

      I love that! Thanks!

    32. Jean-Francois Dupont on

Yes! More solo gameplay solidifies my choice to go all-in on this!

      Foster on

love the idea of more adventures but have two questions/concerns with latest sg.

      1. given that there have already been pushes for the replayability of current adventures and the mobile app opening up possibility for custom fan made adventures, i think i would rather see some of the final stretch goals improve/enhance what's already been announced (token upgrades, card quality upgrades, more gear and character upgrades, etc...)

      2. i thought it had been stated a large number of the existing adventures could be played solo or with a group. does this solo specific adventure do anything different gameplay-wise than the existing solo adventures?

@galakta appreciate any follow up you can provide and don't get me wrong, definitely excited for even more gameplay being included for the value (and loving the new enemy!)

Have my fingers crossed for a couple more sg unlocks in closing 48 hour push so just a few things that came to mind with this update.

    34. Kevin L. Kitchens (Ones Upon a Game) on

Yes! Solo rocks and thanks for an awesome SG

    35. Rob

Also, Congratulations @Cesar RC. It's a fantastic idea and a great choice! ;))

    36. Rob

@Galakta 'Blasta', I am sure Aquisitor, especially, is going to find this outstanding ......And he will be right! It's Freaking Awesome!!! ;))
Frag'N'Hug! I love this so much.

    37. Marcin Cieślikowski on

I do not like to play alone :/ For me it is bad SG :/
