"The clearest way into the universe is through the wilderness." - John Muir
Nature is amazing! The longer we leave it alone, the more diverse, abundant, resilient and regenerative it becomes. The amazing Operating System of nature hold the secret of its success. This operating system is based on a series of design principles. These can be gleaned through anyones direct observation of nature, learned from indigenous wisdom traditions or modern scientists or gleaned from permaculture designers.
After 16 years of international study with permaculture pioneers I have condensed my learning into this 202 card permaculture deck. It shares a toolkit of permaculture principles, design methods and ethics, these cards can support your permaculture practice, learning, teaching, designing and consulting.
Awesome Gratitude to everyone who has supported my Permaculture Design Deck project so far. Yay we reached the first goal which means we can make decks for everyone who ordered them at the end of the campaign for mailout in January. So far we are approaching the half way point to our super goal of 100 supporters.
Our first stretch goal is $4444. With this we can make a nicer box for the cards so they look more awesome. I will also work with a ring of my most inspiring teachers to do a 20 card booster to bring the deck up to 222 permaculture principles and methods. If we make the stretch goal, everyone who has already ordered will get their decks in the upgraded box with the 20 cards booster set as a BONUS reward!
Featuring text from Delvin Solkinson sharing Core Concepts learned from Permaculture Pioneers : Bill Mollison, Rowe Morrow, David Holmgren, Geoff Lawton, Michael Becker, Toby Hemenway, Larry Santoyo, Starhawk & Looby Macnamara. Additional contributions were inspired by Rob Hopkins, Dave Boehnlein, Richard Wallner, Mark Lakeman, Doug Bullock, Ian McHarg and Percival Alfred Yeomans. Core source inspiration from Robin Clayfield.
The card deck is currently available from an on demand printer but the deck costs over $100 + shipping. My goal is to release it in a more accessible form. This kickstarter will unlock my ability to print 100 decks so they can be shared at a fraction of the cost. The new printer is green in that it uses responsibly forested and recycled paper, uses green inks, are 100% wind powered and plant trees.
Featuring visionary design from Sijay James of Onbeyond Metamedia.
Featuring art from Brenna Quinlan, these cards can be used in countless ways to inspire, evolve and uplift your practical understanding of permaculture.
This work is the culmination a learning journey which spanned a PDC, Diploma and Masters Degree with Bill Mollison and the Permaculture Academy, a second Diploma through the Permaculture Institute and a current third Diploma through the Permaculture Association. A final project in a Doctoral level study of Permaculture Education, Delvin has collected these principles and core concepts at 23 different Permaculture Design Advanced Courses and Teacher Trainings as well as a PDC with Rosemary Morrow and Toby Hemenway.
As with all my media, its always available as a free download at printable resolution to the World Community. Digital download freely available here : www.visionarypermaculture.com/coreconceptscards
With your support we can make the Permaculture Design Deck more accessible for people around the world.
Risks and challenges
The project is being printed in the USA so the timeline and turnaround should be good. We are waiting until after New Years to ship to avoid holiday shipping complications.
Since its 202 cards, a huge deck, the shipping is not cheap, particularly internationally. We will ship using the least expensive options we can find.
To keep costs down, for the box, we are doing an informal brown cardstock box with a sticker on it. There is a risk this box wont be great long term storage for the cards that may be best out on a table or in a bag.
We do need to reach our goal in order to manufacture the cards. By making only 100 sets we are hoping to achieve our goal.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
