A better Home Screen for your Android Tablet, designed to fit your lifestyle. Always relevant. Immediately valuable.
Looking for a better Home Screen for your Android Tablet? Introducing Chameleon.
Chameleon replaces the standard Android Home Screens and App Launcher with one that isn't just more useful, but more beautiful as well.
You can set up multiple Home Screens with your own layout of widgets and apps, giving you the most relevant information that you want, when you want it. So whenever you unlock your device, you are presented with the Home Screen that is immediately valuable to you.
Your apps, your content. When you need them, where you need them.
Chameleon Home Screens can be set up based on GPS locations, WiFi networks and time ranges, allowing you to define which Home Screen is the most relevant for the situation. Patent Pending
In the morning, you can set up your own Morning Home Screen for your tablet based on a time range that you specify. During that time, your tablet can be set to display your favorite news, social feeds, weather, schedule and email.
At the office, Chameleon can recognize when you are at your office based on a GPS location and display a Work Home Screen to display things like your email inbox, tasks, calendar and your latest documents.
In the evening, when you are ready to sit down and relax, your tablet can be set to recognize your home network - and display your favorite apps for movies, music, photo sharing and social media.
Chameleon widgets are not just useful, but beautiful as well. We are aiming to include the following widgets based on popular apps and services:
- Media Player
- RSS Reader
App Tray & App Launcher
Chameleon doesn't just let you customize your Home Screens with the widgets you want. It also lets you customize your own mini App Tray. Giving you the apps you want up front, without having to swim through a large grid of apps.
Chameleon helps you do things faster, bringing the most relevant information and apps up front. So you don't have to dig around.
Chameleon is super easy to customize. You can quickly set up Home Screens, Widgets, and App Trays, all with a few gestures.
Chameleon is integrated with Android. We kept what was working and improved the rest. The result is an Android Tablet experience that is as unique as you are.

Where are we at with Chameleon?
We have built the first prototypes but we need your help to build Chameleon. We aim to have Chameleon available on the Google Play Store by September 2012. For customers who are pledging we will make the Chameleon App and your exclusive gifts available to you by Aug 2012. How awesome is that?
*NEW* - The 'Thank You' Reward
Any Kickstarter backer who has pledged $5 and up will get early access to the beta release Chameleon Android Phone app, as a hearty "thank you" to all our Kickstarter backers for their support so far. So far the mobile version is looking very good in terms of design, usability and performance. Exciting times.
So when is the Chameleon Android Phone Beta going to be available? While we want to get it in your hands as early as possible, our prime focus is to deliver the tablet version on time, and aiming to make the beta available winter 2012.
*NEW* - Extra Rewards
We have added three new pledge reward levels to close out our Kickstarter campaign and to give back as much as we can to those who have supported our project.
These rewards include a new custom Chameleon GelaSkin, GelaSkin with t-shirt, or a nice new Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 with Chameleon pre-installed with a variety of our other reward goodies. See the rewards side bar or project update #4 for more details.
The 'Above and Beyond' $25 reward.
Your name as a permanent part of Chameleon. We will be adding a special section in Chameleon where we will display the names of anyone who pledges $25 dollars and up. This 'Shout Outs' section will be available in all Chameleon Apps letting everyone know who helped make Chameleon a reality. Whats a better reward than that!
I thought Teknision had raised over $50,000 in pledges already? What happened? We thought we had made it. Kickstarter is an amazing platform but a really difficult one for anyone outside of the United States. In order to set up a Kickstarter account, you have to use Amazon Payments and in order to use Amazon Payments you have be an American citizen. Luckily for us, we had that covered. At least we thought we did. As with any team, you can't expect all the members to stay part of the team forever. One team member's departure meant the departure of the Amazon Payment account.
Why are you only asking to raise $30,000 this time? We are playing it safe. We understand that many people might not be bothered to go through the Kickstarter checkout again so we are lowering the threshold. Our personal goal is to achieve the $50,000 that we had previously achieved. Rest assured, we are 100% committed to making an awesome home screen and delivering on time.
Will my credit card be charged twice if I back this new project? No. We canceled the original project ( http://kck.st/Kt62TM ) , everyones pledges were refunded, well before the final deadline.
What exactly is the Kickstarter money going towards? Thirty grand sure is a lot of money. In fact, we have already invested far more than that into Chameleon. Creating an product like Chameleon is not done overnight - it needs need a team of developers, designers, and a test bed of hardware. What you are seeing is the product of months of effort entirely self funded by us, all while juggling other projects to help keep the lights on. Oh and ramen noodles of course! All proceeds from Kickstarter will go directly to completing production of Chameleon and its literally a small fraction to what Chameleon costs to build.
What platforms does Chameleon work with?
Chameleon is designed to work on Android Tablets version 3.2 and above.
Does Chameleon work for my Android phone as well as tablet? Chameleon will not be available on the phone for the August release. Chameleon is currently designed specifically for the tablet, however any Kickstarter backer who has pledged $5 and up will be able to get early access to our beta release Chameleon Phone app which we are aiming to deliver by winter 2012.

Why did you Kickstart this project? We love Kickstarter and think its a great way to test the market, raise awareness and validate the Chameleon concept. Any product like this needs money to bring a product to market. Traditionally, that money either comes internally or from investors. The beauty of Kickstarter is that it's not investment, it's pre-sales. Practically every backer on Kickstarter is a customer and it's a perfect way to let ideas stand for themselves.
The prototype looks finished - why will it take so long to make it available? There is a big difference between a prototype and shippable software. Even a prototype like the one in the Kickstarter video is far from a complete product. While the prototype shows actual home screen creation and editing and real working widgets, there is still a lot of hard work to be done to ensure the user experience is uncompromised in any way and also to ensure that what we are shipping is fully tested to provide the performance we are promising. Remember, we are showing Chameleon on our own tablet, which is a known and unchanging environment. We still have to test on a wide variety of tablets so that everyone gets the same experience.
Weren't you working on a OEM deal with Chameleon? Conversations with OEM's are still moving in the right direction but we've listened to our fans and made a decision to create a separate product roadmap that allows us to deliver and maintain Chameleon for consumers and still deliver a highly customized set of functionality for OEM's at the same time.
I don't want a Morning, Work or Evening home screen - can I choose my own? Absolutely, we have used those as examples to get you started. You can make specific Home screens for family members, for entertainment, for travel, whatever. Its completely up to you!
If Teknision strikes a deal with an OEM what happens with the software? Will it be supported? Our view is this - as long as there is a market and revenue stream for Chameleon as a Google Play app, we will build it, sell it and support it. Similarly Chameleon as an OEM product would require a OEM backer to make it a reality. We view them as two distinct and independent products, with distinct buyers that have distinct needs. The more the merrier in our opinion!
I pledge the five bucks, what happens in September, will I have to buy the app again? If you buy Chameleon via Kickstarter, we will ensure that you pay only once and will have access to all applicable software updates.
Will smaller screen sizes be supported? Because we are focused on optimizing performance - the first release will be performance optimized for 10" (1280 x 800) however we will be working hard to ensure Chameleon works on smaller tablets as well. The framework and widgets are already designed to dynamically fit different screen sizes, but we want to ensure the performance doesn't suffer.
Will there be a mobile phone version? Our focus is 100% on making Chameleon for tablets this fall. We will be working on creating a phone based version around winter 2012 with early access to anyone who is a Chameleon Kickstarter backer.
What kind of language support will there be? Our Kickstarter release will be english only however multi language support is part of the product roadmap after V1.
Will tablets running on Android 4.0+ be able to create folders in the app tray as you can on the current ICS home screen? Not at this time.
Can I be involved in testing? Yes! We will be conducting various tests and will need your help. Stay tuned for updates!
How many Home screens can I make? Currently there is no limit (which may change) but we suspect 5 home screens is the maximum someone would likely create.
I don’t want to lose my Android preferences how does Chameleon impact my settings? Chameleon will aim to utilize as many Android preferences as possible. Additionally if you decide you want to go back to using your old Android home screen, the settings associated with it will remain as you last left them.
Does Chameleon support multiple users? No - our first release will not have user profiles or profile management. While we had this and facial recognition in our prototypes - this feature is a concept only.
Can I use Android’s live wallpaper or upload my own backgrounds? As a company that focuses in UI design, simplicity and legibility is very important to us. We view Android's live wallpapers as a novelty and visual distraction so at this point we will not be supporting the live wall papers. Chameleon will allow for people to upload their own wall papers.
