Tiny Footprint is a cooperative board game for 1-6 players where you aim to reduce your carbon foot print to meet the climate target of two tonnes C02 per person and year.
With multiple set up scenarios and characters with unique characteristics and capabilities the game offers lots of replayability.
In the game you play as a household or a group of friends trying to complete various environmental missions that reduce your carbon footprint. You need to reduce your carbon footprint to the climate target of two tonnes per person before time runs out.
You start by selecting where you live which impacts your starting emissions:
Then you select your lifestyle. This may not only change the starting emissions of the game but it is also a way of setting the difficulty level of the game. You can play at four different levels of difficulty; Normal, Tricky, Hard and Epic!
Then you choose your characters. There are 16 different characters to play in the game, divided in to two categories; 12 regular Characters and 4 Gamers:
You can play as a group of friends or a family, even a single household. Each character has different abilities and resources that help them to beat the climate target.
There are three types of resources that help you reduce your carbon emissions; discipline, environmental commitment and finances.
By using the resource cards you will try to complete climate missions. They come in four categories; transport, food, housing and other consumption:
There are also external factors that influence us when we try to live more sustainably. For instance, there are political and financial instruments that try to nudge us in the right direction and help us change our lifestyle choices. And there are mechanisms that make it harder; like advertising, habits and social norms. These external factors are represented in the game by the Encouragement/Resistance cards which are activated during the more challenging climate missions:
When you successfully complete a climate mission you get to reduce the carbon emissions on the board. When you have managed to reduce all emission categories to zero you have won the game. So you compete against the game and not the other players who you instead need to collaborate with to win the game.
Tiny Footprint offers a great opportunity to have fun together and to cooperate to win the game, at the same time as you get to learn about which actions have the biggest impact on reducing your carbon emissions
Tiny Footprint comes with an innate solo mode. There is no need for an AI, separate Automa deck or anything like that. You just follow the player count rules in the rule book and gain access to more action pawns and mission cards and play just like you would in a game with multiple players.
Furthermore, to give the game high replayability there are, alongside the multiple characters to play that all have unique abilities, four levels of difficulty to play; Normal, Tricky, Hard and Epic. This will allow you to replay the game and get a harder challenge each time you play.
Do you and your gaming group want to be in the game? Or maybe put a few friends or family members in the game and give it is a gift? Then the Mega Face pledge is for you. When we reach out to you after the campaign ends all you need to do is to send us up to 4 pictures of the faces you would like to get personalized character cards for. And the name of the character and the accompanying flavor text. We will then "cartoonize" those faces and you will have unique and personalized character cards for your game nights!
We will charge for shipping once the campaign is over. For this, we will use a pledge manager (Gamefound). A pledge manager is a tool that will help us collect all of your shipping information so we can deliver the game to you without any mishaps or delays. Shipping is expensive but we will subsidize part of the cost of shipping to you. Since we will use shipping partners in the EU (and the UK should Brexit happen), Canada and the US you will not have to worry about paying additional taxes or duties in those regions.
The table below shows the final shipping cost for one copy of Tiny Footprint. (The personalized character cards in the Mega Face pledge will be sent separately with free shipping).

There is no big company behind this game. Really just one person with an idea and a game that I am trying to bring to life. Since making and shipping a board game to lots of different countries is expensive I need the funds to be able to do it and also to ensure that there are enough people who want to play this game. That is why I use Kickstarter to try to raise the funds necessary to make this game a reality.
A Kickstarter campaign is an all or nothing campaign. This means that the money you back this project with will only be charged in the event the campaign reaches its target. If it does not reach its target no money will be drawn from your card account.
As I am making a board game about sustainable lifestyles and choices I want to address the sustainability aspect of the product I am trying to make a reality.
And if your question is; Isn't it more sustainable not to buy this board game? And the answer is yes. From a strict resource perspective it would be better not to buy this game. Having said that, I still want to make this game a reality and here are the reasons why:
- First and foremost, it is a board game and not a sustainability product. And although this hobby does produce thousands of games every year, the footprint of one board game for one household is extremely small compared to the other lifestyle choices we make when it comes to our diet, how we travel and where we travel. The difference the choices we make is the core take-away from playing this game
- Secondly, my hope is that when people play this game it will generate interesting discussions around the choices we make and how they impact our climate. Hopefully it can inform and help some of the players to make more sustainable choices in the future. That is the real sustainability impact of the game
- Why the focus on individual lifestyle choices and not governments and corporations? This game focuses on a household and our individual choices. Clearly we need government and corporate commitments alongside technological innovation to meet the climate target. But our individual lifestyle choices will also play a key role in a more sustainable future.
- We have tried to produce this in the most sustainable way possible but still with an eye on cost. So this means that it is produced with recycled paper and cardboard and almost no plastic. But it is produced in China due to the cost-prohibitive nature of producing it locally in Sweden (where we are based)
- In conclusion, this product can help people with having conversations around living sustainably but it is a board game and not a sustainability product.
Risks and challenges
This is our second Kickstarter project. The first one was a Swedish only Kickstarter which was successfully produced and delivered ahead of time. We have also delivered a retail version of that board game to over 40 stores across Sweden and have run an International consumer goods company from which we have extensive experience when it comes to production, logistics, shipping and customs.
The art and mechanics for this game are completed and all we need to do is to press go and our partners will start producing the game. We are confident that we will be able to deliver a great product to you on time.
That said, we will use partners to bring this idea to life; e.g. manufacturing, freight forwarding, 3rd parties like the US Post Office, and FEDEX to ship the games to you – we don't control everything but will do everything we can to get this game in to your hands on time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
