Every Minute is a New Day: The Language of Dementia
A book by Amy Moloney
"Who makes the egg salad in your soul"
Alzheimer's and Dementia causes a multitude of physical issues, memory loss being one small piece of the disease. One of the most difficult hurdles is communication. Not only do language centers become damaged, but the ability to process and work out problems disappears. It leaves the person at a loss as to how to communicate their needs or how to go about providing the needs for themselves.
Every Minute is a New Day* is a chronicling of experiences and observations from years as an Alzheimer's nurse. The difficulties in caring for these fragile souls is met with challenges at every turn. Language transforms into an adventure of the spirit.
"Do you think that the early bird can get through the storm?"
Working closely with my patients has taught me many lessons in how to better communicate with them, as well as how to be a better, more compassionate person in my personal life. Love, laughter, and a daily dose of dancing like a fool is the key to success as an Alzheimer's nurse and as a human being.
The need for greater understanding of what to expect as Dementia takes so many members of our aging population is increasing at alarming rates. It is a worldwide epidemic. My hope is that this project will help not only the families dealing with Alzheimer's and Dementia but whole communities. Only by working together can we give love and life to our loved ones.
"Do you eat sunshine for breakfast?"
All contributions to Every Minute is a New Day will be used for publishing and marketing. I have already secured a publisher for this project. The process has begun. If we are lucky to go above goal, the extra funds will also be used in additional publishing features and a more global marketing plan.
*This project is based on Nurse Bitterpill, a blog I started a few years ago, Nursebitterpill.com: an Alzheimer's blog.

Risks and challenges
The risk of any literary work is finding an audience. My hope is that this becomes a universal message of love and understanding rather than just another book about Alzheimer's Disease.
Publishing is sometimes a long and involved process that for the most part involves people that are not the author. I anticipate this work taking until at least mid 2015. It is always possible that logistics can stretch that target to later in the year. I will keep you updated throughout the process. No matter how long it takes, this project will be seen to fruition.
Every Minute is a New Day is about community and as a community we will overcome any obstacles in our path.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
