THE
MOVIE
Future Weather is a portrait of a Midwestern teen who takes refuge from an unstable home life in science and nature. When she’s abandoned by her mom, she decides to take survival into her own hands. Told with humor and pathos, Future Weather is an authentic look at three generations of women navigating responsibility and self-fulfillment. It also gives voice to a generation who has inherited life on a warming planet. Starring Perla Haney-Jardine, Amy Madigan, Lili Taylor, Marin Ireland and William Sadler.

THE BACKSTORY
Future Weather is the first feature of writer-director-producer Jenny Deller and producer Kristin Fairweather. We started in 2006 from scratch: no money, no institutions, no Hollywood connections. Fueled by a belief in the script, entrepreneurial fervor, and a hunger to learn what it takes to make an independent film, we talked to anyone who would listen (and listened to anyone who would talk), created budgets, roped family and friends into fundraisers, and applied to every grant, lab and contest available.
In 2009, the film was selected from out of 2000 applicants as a semi-finalist in the Netflix FIND Your Voice competition, co-sponsored by Film Independent. This gave us the opportunity to work with actress Perla Haney-Jardine on a companion short film to Future Weather called Save the Future.
That spring, Future Weather also won the Showtime Tony Cox Screenwriting Award from the Nantucket Film Festival. We had cracked the door open. Slowly but surely, the project attracted financial supporters, collaborators and mentorship from producers Cora Olson and Jennifer Dubin, Film Independent, the Tribeca Film Institute, IFP and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. In 2010, we shot Future Weather in the Philadelphia area.
WHERE WE ARE NOW
This film has been over six years in the making and will premiere April 29th at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. This is a valuable opportunity for the film to be seen by audiences, critics and distributors—which means a very promising shot at wider distribution, and ultimately the opportunity for you, your friends and family to see Future Weather in theaters, on TV, and through online outlets like Netflix and iTunes.
OUR GOAL
We need your help to launch this critical phase of the filmmaking process: getting festival-ready, building our audience, and securing distribution.
Future Weather is a low-budget independent film that has been funded by individuals, non-profits and sweat equity. We wrapped post-production in February 2012. We're now raising money through Kickstarter to dot I’s, cross T’s, and pay for all of the tools we need to put our best foot forward and make sure our beautiful film has a shot at reaching festival audiences and beyond.
Your generous donations will pay for:
- a publicist
- a new website
- movie posters, postcards, and other materials
- festival travel/accommodations for cast and filmmakers
- screeners, supplies and shipping fees
- remaining post-production and delivery expenses
- music & effects track
- legal fees
- energy audit and carbon off-sets (we were a green production!)
