Fuse Chicken is a new company launched from the Kickstarter campaign for Une Bobine. Check it out here. Une Bobine completed funding in June 2012 and we shipped all rewards by September 2012.
Une Bobine is a patent pending flexible and eclectic stand, sync, dock, and charging cable. The cable is designed with very specific materials to provide a fully flexible cable with enough strength to hold the weight of your phone. The cable can be flexed in different positions, coiled, wrapped around objects.... the only limit is your imagination.
We have completely redesigned the entire product for the iPhone 5, 5C, and 5S version to accommodate the new connector and make improvements.
- Increased the cable size by 15% to provide better holding strength
- Added a backstop to more securely hold the iPhone
- Reduced the size of the USB end to fit better when used next to other USB plugs
We have already created the production molds for the cable components and have completed our own testing for the cable. The production samples are currently being tested at Apple's test facility for MFI certification. Now we need your funding help for the mass production of the cable and to build the molds for the dash clip and case.
Here are our expectations of each step after funding:
Final Mold Builds for dash clip and case:2-5 weeks until production samples
4 Weeks for delivery from order placement. The lightning connector is the longest lead item.
Production and Freight Arrival:2 Weeks from start of production. We will be expediting freight shipment via air.
Will begin immediately upon receipt of product. With the original Une Bobine, we shipped 12,000 units in 2 weeks.
We're really excited about this reward! We have a pair of Makerbot Replicator 2 3D printers and we decided to put them to use for more than just our own product development. So we're pleased to present our 3D-Printed Cable Creatures to turn your Une Bobine into a crazy work of art! And don't worry, the creatures have been trained to stay completely clear of your iPhone, so you can look cool and charge your phone at the same time. And if creatures are too creep-crawly for you, we also are now growing Flowers and our cool Rainbow Gumdrop Cable Things. All Cable Things will be available in nearly a dozen colors. You will be able to make your choice along with colors after the project is completed.
This is the original Kickstarter video showing Bob's return.
Meet The Team
Fuse Chicken CEO, Founder, and do-it-all-even-make-the-coffee guy. Jon has been designing and engineering consumer and commercial products with his successful design studio for over 20 years. With Fuse Chicken, he has a hand in everything from international shipping logistics to our daily accounting.
Props to our outside engineering advisor who just happens to be Jon's older brother. Chris works for an innovative commercial security device company creating some pretty cool, cutting edge tech. In his spare time, he puts up with Jon's questions and pestering on engineering, manufacturing, and design ideas for iPhone accessories.
Keeping it in the family... John is Chris and Jon's engineering father who created Fawcett Design in the 1990's and established it as a world-class consulting business. John is also part owner of Fuse Chicken and provides critical input on engineering, manufacturing, and accounting based on his experience at running his own small business for decades.
Cory, Aaron, Jessica, and Dennis
Some of our design studio staff that we rope in to help with critical or time-sensitive tasks...like our all-night design hackathons and our 'learn how to ship 12000 Kickstarter rewards in a week' sessions.
And of course, all of your are part of the team. This is a journey as a group and we want you to be part of it! Check out http://kickingitforward.org to get a feel for what this means.
Risks and challenges
While everyone desires for a completely smooth road, we understand there will most likely be a few bumps along the way. We have been through the product development process many times before as well as delivered on a successful Kickstarter project. We shipped 1 month late on our prior project, so we have added extra time to our shipping estimate this time around.
We have already been working on MFI certification for the lightning version of Une Bobine. This is important to you because it means this will cut down on delays caused by the Apple approval process. The case and dash clip are currently prototypes that will need molds built at the project completion. But the molds are already built for the cable and the photos you see are of production samples. This was required in order to begin MFI approval. These steps should limit the possibilities for delays to items outside of our control such as incoming freight shipments clearing customs and raw materials lead times.
With all of that said, we are committed to being open about the entire project, process and any delays, so here is what you can expect from us:
1. You will receive a reply to all comments, emails, messages, and questions.
2. We will send a project update at least once per week or sooner if there is big news. The project updates will be sent on this schedule until rewards have shipped.
