About this project
A Word From The Founder
What is FurtherFit?
Give Your Fitness Data a Work Out.
High tech products like pedometers, heart monitors and GPS enabled devices capture lots of data about your body’s performance during everyday activities and fitness workouts.
Trouble is, you may not know how to interpret that information, much less how to use it to improve future performance.
Enter FurtherFit™, an online service that turns data from your various fitness devices into a rich story about your personal health and fitness performance.
It’s simple. You become a FurtherFit member and register the fitness devices that track your workouts and every day activities. We collect your data and analyze it, then deliver our findings to you via the secure FurtherFit website.
The focus is not about comparing your performance to an unknown competitor’s. Just an honest review of how you’re doing against yourself. So you can go further—and then come back for more.
- Organize better workouts
- Plan more effective recovery programs
- Perform better—on event day and every day
- Stay safe and injury free
What Product Will FutherFit Work With?
Initially FurtherFit is being built to work with data provided by Garmin, FitBit and Withings. This will cover many of the fitness parameters that FurtherFit will need to populate your fitness dashboard.
There are many other products in the market place today from companies like Nike, Timex and Polar. We intend on integrating as many of these products as possible.
When will FurtherFit be available?
We will be releasing our Alpha version in August, 2013. The Beta version is scheduled for release in November, 2013. As a Kickstarter "Beta Level" supporter you will be able to participate in the Beta testing.
The full production version is scheduled for release on January 1, 2014.
How it works
Each of your wearable devices collects valuable data and can enrich your activities by giving you insights into how you are doing in regards to meeting your overall fitness goals.
Combining this data can increase its value exponentially. For example by combining your Garmin data from your cycling and running with the data from your FitBit or Withings activity measurement devices you will gain great insights to the energy you are truly expending each day.
Additionally, by looking at this information over time and understating how certain metrics interact and effect each other, you can better understand how your body reacts to the stress your activities are putting it under and ensure you are getting the proper rest to insure you are getting the recovery you need to meet your maximum potential.
The FurtherFit Advantage
- The power and flexibility of a Web-based service
- All your fitness data accessible in one place
- Powerful new fitness metrics and analysis by combining data from multiple sources
- Specialized tools for analyzing cycling and running activities
- Complete 360 degree view of your activity level from exertion to recovery
- Specialized nutritional and exercises information available to help you meet your fitness goals

Use of funds
Much or the product is already complete. There are two more components that need to be developed: GPS altitude correction and direct connection to Garmin Connect's web API. The proceeds from this Kickstarter will be directly applied to this.
If we hit $50,000 we will accelerate our plans to add additional wearable technologies to FurtherFit such as Polar, Nike Fuel, Timex, iHealth and Jawbone. We will let you - the Kickstarter supporter - decide which of these should be added next.
If we hit $100,000 we will start expanding the reach of the product beyond the US. This will include making sure the GPS mapping works throughout the world as well as localization of the user interface. We will also initiate development of our smartphone and tablet offerings.
If things go really well and we hit $200,000 we will apply the additional proceeds to marketing and further development based on feedback from our users and advisory board.

Risks and challenges
Similar to many Kickstarter projects, we face some risks as we endeavor to build such an ambitious product. We have spent several years developing and testing the algorithms and technologies that will be critical to our sucess. We have taken most of the “technology risks” off the table, we are left with mostly:
* Financing Risk
* Market Risk
* Execution Risk
With respect to Financing Risk, we feel comfortable that if we hit our Kickstarter funding goal, we will have enough money (and momentum) to succeed on this project, to run our business, and to deliver a production release of the service on time. Funds raised in excess of our goal will be used to accelerate development and marketing, lowering this risk even further.
With respect to Market Risk, to date we have not identified any other company with the same business model. Several companies have addressed part of the offering, but no one is looking at tying all of these technologies together. At this time it appears to be a greenfield. Getting to market first will help decrease this risk factor.
That leaves Execution Risk, having developed a similar offering at his last company, the founder brings over 12 years of successful experience to bear on this project. Software-as-a-Service is now very well understood and the advent of cloud-computing resources make this the perfect time for such a product.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
FurtherFit is scheduled to go live in January of 2014!
We will be launching a beta program near the end of the year, likely late October or early November. Kickstarter supporters will be invited to join the program and help with the final testing before full release in January.
FurtherFit is a subscription service. It will cost $8.99 per month or $99.00 for the full year (when paid in advance).
