There are big things in the pipeline!
Thank you. I appreciate that you respect the Art Critic Perk level donors. Thanks, and I hope you have the best of luck going forward on this project.
At the risk of repeating myself, there's no money left for anything -- I'm putting this project together with the help of people who are donating their own time/effort/work and skill for nothing at all, including myself.
It's actually something I could have walked away from to be quite honest, since it's been nothing but trouble from the start when I was hired on as a writer to work with people who hadn't got a single clue about them. Who basically stole the money from the backers and then absconded with it.
So there are no Art Critic Perks at the moment since there's no artist to do them, I have my good friend Aaron Acevedo who has offered to act as art director so hopefully he'll be able to sort something like that out in the future.
What people are going to get should be far better than anything the original project leads promised however, since Aaron is also going to publish/layout/typeset and make the book look pretty.
As for the classes: There will be new classes, but they won't be the classes that were originally described -- with the help of ASH LAW and some other folks we're going to be adding in classes to Nocturne that will better fit the flavour of the setting and add fun options for players.
So there won't just be a new class, there'll be more than one :)
I remember that there was going to be a new Warlock class in the game, back when it was Nightfall. There was some concern at the time that it would overlap with the Occultist, which at the time seemed to have more infernal overtones. Is there going to be a new class in the game?
Well, again, at risk of sounding pesky, what did become of those Art Critic level perks? If the original authors absconded with those dollars, fine, I get that. You aren't in the wringer for that. But, eh heh, where is the Art Critic perks?
I'd like to say yes, but they were really Sam's thing and Sam's deal with Bryan Schwaderer -- since Bryan paid no one on the project, writer or artist, everything like that's up in the air.
We have a new art director and artists for Nocturne -- I don't want to step on Sam's toes, but I'll certainly try and get in contact with him and see where the land lies.
are there still lepidopterans? and are any assets from the earlier art still being used? I thought Sam Phillps' work, especially those scripts from update #18, was really cool.
Thanks Martin, I wish I could change the name, but well... I'm stuck with it!
I'll be posting (very shortly) another update that shows some of the new content for Botrovia. It's only gone through a very rough first pass line-edit, so nothing is set in stone.
That's very promising, thank you for the update Darren.
Want some more fantastic news, GUESS who got access to the Kickstarter page ;)
The thing is there's no way for him to tell the other backers, since it was a different set of people who have access to the kickstarter account. the best we can hope is people will check back and see the link I've provided :<
Holy cats, that is *fantastic* news. Thanks for the link to that thread!
(I am easily made optimistic. Really, all it takes to keep me happy is a consistent "we're working on it" type update.)
From the gentleman still working on Nightfall:
Darren W. Pearce
Thank you! I'd just like to reassure folks that I have been, and still am working tirelessly to try and get this sorted. For the first time in a long time though, thanks to ASH and Aaron there's a real sense movement in terms of the book and now that the project is back in my hands, it's a lot easier to push it forward.
Whilst I had close to over 80,000 words, the current count (with sections missing, which were supposed to be completed by others), it's looking around 99,000 now after adding in ASH's content and some new content written recently.
For those of you wondering what's been going on with Nightfall, I would like to direct you here:
Its figure its over. The Funhaver twitter account initially said they'd finish it but then posted that they were through.
Hopefully this one still has people working on it. Some kind of comment would be nice to hear.
Art Critic here, still waiting on Art Critic level perks. IIRC the artist involved didn't flake, but feel free to correct me on that.
Coming up on eight months with nary a peep. Shame to have this KS abandoned by *two* creators. It's one of the books I was really looking forward to seeing.
Any updates at all?
Almost at the two year mark. This could have been a neat addition to the 13th age family. Sad, but not angry.
Getting scary and looking like this may never complete. Sad.
Sorry about that Tucker, looks like the holidays got the best of us. I've just posted an update with a quick look at our mechanics work.
Hi! Now that the holidays are over, how's the book going?
The text of the book is finished and Darren has been on top of his work for Nightfall; there are plans for another company to step in and help out. The mechanics writer taking the money and running was a huge setback the current owner wasn't prepared to deal with, and as soon as everything's ironed out there will be a public statement outlining exactly what this means for backers and the project.
The website has been abandoned (in fact you can get it if you really want).
I'd pretty much regard this KS as abandoned. No replies from owner, dropped website, writer is in limbo. Wish the owner was professional enough to let us know either way.
If anyone knows the writer, perhaps they could send the document (unfinished as it is) to one of us for distribution (I'll gladly do it) - may even polish it off a little if needed. (see my profile to connect with me)
Well, last I heard from the writer is that his part's done (finished, complete) until needed edits get handed back-- wish I knew why there wasn't any update to that effect since it's pretty big news for the ks, especially one in such a state as this. I know edits do take a while but it'd be nice to hear something. Dunno where it's at mechanically but as far as I know that's moving along too.
I've been trying to contact Fun Tyrant through Kickstarter for a couple weeks now. Has anyone been able to receive a response from them? Any info is appreciated, thanks.
With 13th Age core book at the printer, what is the status on Nightfall?
Any word on the progress?
So, has the latest news of 13th Age's release slipping to April affected us? when can we expect to hear something from you? Hope all is well.
So, Any Updates?
Grats your jocular majesty! :)
Broke that $7,000 mark! Congrats :D
We are still hoping to have it ready for Halloween!
Is there still some hope that the introductory adventure will be ready before Halloween? I was getting ready to promote the project on some social networks and wanted to mention the adventure but didn't want to mislead people if that was no longer looking like a realistic target for said adventure.
Or Impalertron 9000? :)
Seriously though, I will have to find a use for a mecha-maniacal vampire. Oh, now there's a thought; a small army of pint-sized mechanical blood extraction drones that could be sent out to collect on behalf of a mechanically minded vampire lord.
I'm thinking that even if I don't end up using the Nightfall material exactly as presented it's going to offer a lot of cool inspiration for a plethora of dark and twisted ideas.
Actually TurboDracula was 99% of the reason that I almost cancelled my backing.
I agree that Turbodracula is not the best choice as it is too real world tied. I would select a name that suggests the same link without the ties that Dracula has to reality.
Master of the Night
TURBODRACULA is an iconic name for our realmlord, but in the spirit of 13th Age's awesome sidebars about making the game your own, there will of course be other options.
Are you guys married to the name Turbodracula? It just sounds silly to me and makes me think rocky horror, not horror.
We temporarily removed 13th Age from the description as a result of discussions with Pelgrane. They're still working out the details of how third-party support works, and have been really great throughout this process. I appreciate the feedback!
Nightfall looks great, can't wait to have it in hand! The setting seems very interesting, and the races even more so.
I did notice you removed "13th Age" from your description (searching those words on Kickstarter being how I found your project). I may have still stumbled across it on forums, browsing games Kickstarters or searching roleplaying ones, but found the change curious.
Michael, we are not entirely sure what the occultist will be doing, as the occultist is a forthcoming class in 13 true ways, with close ties to the Diabolist.
We are working hard on our Warlock class for our Nightfall, which probably has more in common with Willow than with Giles. Dark Pacts, Addictive Magic, Physical Tolls for spells. It should fit in nicely.
So what archetype does the occultist fill. Does it support an adventurer scholar type? Because a Gothic horror setting seems to be a great place for Giles type character.
You're welcome! I'd already pledged $98, what's another dollar? :)
Thanks, Iain! Woooooo we're past the first marker!
