Gamble and game in Last Stand. Protect the planet from giant monsters by climbing them and punching them in the face.
Last Stand is a tabletop roleplaying game of giant insects, enormous radioactive lizards, alien invaders, and destroyed cities. It's also a game of biological power armor, weapons ripped from your enemies, climbing skyscraper-sized forces of nature, and collateral damage.
In Last Stand, players take on the role of humanity's last hope against an endless swarm of invaders. Giant bees colonize entire buildings, enormous ants convert subways into ant hills, and some kind of impossibly huge robot gorilla is on its way to destroy the city. To fight against them, you must become them.
Each character has a suit of Bio-Armor, crafted from the corpses of the invaders. One character might wear the Hornet Bio-Armor, flying around the battlefield and tearing through enemies with the Hornet Sting. Another rampages through the city in Beetle Bio-Armor, practically invulnerable and inhumanly strong. Octopus Bio-Armor is the perfect aquatic weapon, able to fire Corrosive Ink Blasts on command. If the Bio-Armor isn't enough, you can also craft new weapons and equipment from the enemies you defeat in battle.
Stretch Goals and Updates
$2000: We're here! Everyone receives the Last Stand Booster Pack. It's a collection of four new Bio-Armor Suits as well as new powers for your player characters. (Anyone receiving physical cards will have this added to their Armory Deck, and it will be listed in the Last Stand pdf/book for printing as well.)
$2500: Everyone will receive a series of adventures for use with Last Stand. The action has been mostly contained to the streets of Your City, USA, but with this adventure the menace takes to the skies! Fight on the backs of enormous vultures, smoke out the Queen Bee and protect your headquarters, the largest Bio-Armor creation to date. If you fail here, you won't get another chance.
$3500: A brand new setting for use with Last Stand. We'll reveal more about this soon, but here's a teaser. Brave warriors, tattoos inked with the blood of dead gods, wrestling the world serpent into submission and climbing frost giants so you can ensure humanity survives Ragnarok. New cards, a new book, all kinds of cool art. Same core rules, but a full standalone game in addition to your copy of Last Stand. Every backer will receive this on pdf, and we're still working out details on physical copies. It won't be available immediately, but we're working hard to get it out as soon as possible.
$4000 every backer will receive a file of Last Stand material formatted for easy use on http://roll20.net/ , a cool place for playing games online. We're talking files for the Armory deck, some sample maps, documentation on how to run it efficiently.
To show it off, in the next week the Fünhaver Industries design team will run a demo of Last Stand on Roll20, record it, and post it here for everyone to see.
$5000 every backer will receive a pdf of another game/setting compatible with Last Stand. It's a little thing we're calling Düngeön for now. Crawl through dungeons, eat troll flesh and gain its regenerative powers, fight dragons and take their wings - or combine it with Last Stand and Ragnarök for even more fun.
This WILL be the full game.
$6000 August through December, we'll release a free supplement each month containing new material for all the games released to that point. New adventures, new monsters (with new powers to steal), new cards to print, advice on running crossover games, any other cool things we want to put in there, previews of new games and products. If it goes over well maybe we'll make it a continuing thing.
We're already here! This is crazy!
$7000 A Designer Advice pdf. It's very similar to what we provide our freelancers and design team - comments on how the mechanics work, why the mechanics work, everything we've noticed working on the game. This will make it super easy to design your own content for Last Stand, Ragnarök, Düngeön and any future products using the Fortune System.
We'll also include a few more cards, both in the game pdf and the physical cards. If we hit the goal, that's nearly 80 cards coming your way.
$9000 we will include a set of Last Stand rules compatible with new RPG star 13th Age, available here: http://www.pelgranepress.com/?page_id=7741
$11000 you'll also get a set of Ragnarök rules compatible with 13th Age!
Back to the SystemLast Stand uses the Fortune System. You'll need 2d10 per player and maybe a few d12s, as well as a bunch of tokens. The Fortune System is all about gambling. Sometimes you'll choose to roll less dice and gamble you'll win anyway. Other times you'll wager tokens or risk damaging your allies. The more you push your limits and the more you're willing to risk, the more you'll get from the Fortune System.
The primary character creation method is a card draft; players build a hand of cards (known as their Arsenal) to create their character. These cards grant new powers and abilities. The cards aren't necessary, but they speed up the game and look cool. (We'll have print-quality copies of the cards available with the pdf too.) Don't worry - If you don't like cards, Last Stand has alternate character creation rules.
We're still finalizing our card template. This is a very, very rough mockup of what you'll see on a card, along with some teaser art from amazing artist Gill Pearce.
Gameplay is fast and brutal. Last Stand is a summer blockbuster through and through, and the system aims to keep the excitement high. Last Stand is the perfect pick up and play game - you can be ready to go in less than five minutes - but also supports long term campaigns.
Expect frequent updates. We have a lot of mechanics and setting to show off throughout the Kickstarter.
Last Stand is written by Boabdil Perez, Rolando Guerra, and Brandon Schmelz. Gill Pearce is the primary artist. Members of our design team worked on White Wolf's Exalted and Third Eye Games' Wu Xing: The Ninja Crusade, as well as games released under their own names. We have a solid group of playtesters as well.
We've completed the core of the game mechanics and are finishing up the setting material. At the end of this Kickstarter, we're ready to print and ship the game out to backers.
The goal of this Kickstarter is to pay for production costs of the book, card sets and play aids. We will also use the money to pay writers and artists to create new material for Last Stand. Once completed, Last Stand will be available in print and .pdf from a variety of retailers.
As incentive, we're providing copies of the book and .pdf as well as printed cards, full box sets, exclusive content and a chance to get yourself into the game. More backers also means more art we can provide for the game, more copies we can produce and more bonus material we can provide. Our first goal is more cards, which means more Bio-Armor and powers for everyone to play with.
