Duel of the Dragons is a simple yet strategic card game pitting two powerful dragons against one another in a battle to the death.
1 or 2 players, 44 cards, <30 minutes per game.
Players will each choose a Dragon card to duel with, and they will share a deck of cards consisting of Combat cards, Special Attack cards, and Action cards. What makes the game special is the building up of your combat cards throughout each round, which also influence the end of round result, making every card played important both in the moment and at the end of a round of battle. This can only be explained visually, so make sure to check it out in the images below or in the Project Video above!
Full game rules are in the image below *layout may change before final print*.

The funding target for the game is relatively low at $500 Canadian, and that is intentional so that almost anyone who is interested is able to get a copy of the game. If we exceed our target with enough funding we will be able to add in more Dragon Cards (which requires the additional cost of art commissions). More Dragons means more potential matchup options, and versatility for players.
Here are the initial game Stretch Goals, more could be added depending on backer support:
Meeple Syrup Games:
Duel of the Dragons is a light filler game for 1-2 players, that throws the players into the role of one of two duelling dragons, battling it out in an epic clash where only one can come out on top!
DotD has a pretty neat gameplay mechanic in which every combat card you lay simultaneously changes your dragon, for better or worse, so you’ll have to be smart about how you lay down your cards in order to maximize the amount of damage you can combo out of your cards! You’ll take turns back and forth, attacking each other and growing your dragon, till inevitably someone loses 100 life points and the other is deemed victorious! (you could easily increase or decrease the win condition to make gameplay shorter or longer depending on your preference without really impacting gameplay, which is pretty rad!). The gameplay is very “take that”, and confrontational, but given the relatively quick turns, and light hearted gameplay, it doesn’t feel overly mean at all!
My favourite aspect of the game is how strategic it feels for such a light game, with each combat card you lay down to build your dragon feeling like an intricate puzzle. Better be careful how you lay those cards in case you ruin the combo you had planned! Definitely a ton of fun.
Logan Chops Reviews:
Duel of the Dragons has a unique technique of cards being placed under the four corners of your dragon card, then the next four to the sides/top/bottom. It’s a pretty good combat card game. The rules are simple, it’s quick and easy to play.
Logan was kind enough to take some time to do a live playthrough of the game on Sunday, Sept 16th with a prototype version of the deck, its about 35 minutes as they did spend some time mentioning rules and reading live comments. Great energy and enthusiasm from Joshua and his opponent! Use the link to check it out...
Print and Play Real Gamer Feedback
"I like the stacking/framing for the final score. It’s unique from pretty much everything I’ve played." Dragoness Deb
"I had the chance to play a few games (2 player and solo) and really enjoyed it. Great design with the choices for card placement. Overall really impressed - you have definitely come up with something special. Thanks for letting me playtest it." Simon
"This is a game we keeping thinking about!" Icaraus and Aphrodite
"I have not seen this mechanic before. I think it needs to be central to this game as it is unique. Sure, some games attach cards to other cards, but your system has something different." Francois
Who are you, and why use Kickstarter?
This is the first official game launch for FunDaMental Games, pioneered by me, game designer Wesley Woodbury. I have sourced advice and support from friends, family, and the amazing boardgame community both online and locally to develop this game (and currently working on others as well).
I am utilizing Kickstarter as a way to begin the foundation of a tabletop game design and production company rooted in fantasy settings. Your support will help bring this company to life! Any funds raised for this project will be used to produce the game, ship the game (hence shipping included for North America), and compensate artist and graphic designer contributions. Profitability beyond those areas will be redirected towards establishing other fun, strategic fantasy games with new original artwork and gameplay mechanics.

My Wife and Family - For supporting my goals to create a game (and more to come), and a company. And for being the first early victims of playtesting before going to the public!
John Rocha - A long time friend and great sounding board for game ideas and images, as well as tech questions and social media awareness.
Chris Miles - Artist and Game Designer for an upcoming KS card game called Necromagis, he has helped me understand aspects of card creation and video that I was unaware of.
Nicula Mircea - The Dragon artist of the four core dragons for this game, easy to work with and a versatile fantasy artist.
Andrea Butera - For working with me on another project called Legends of Novus (coming to KS in the future), and providing great digital art. One of his pieces, Monsigneus, is in the Elder Dragon reward tier.
Gabe Barrett - For hosting a fabulous game designer podcast and website free to any aspiring game designers. Can't say enough positive things about his energy, passion, and valuable content!

And finally to all of the Print and Play gamers out there that spent time, money, and energy to print and play my early game files and help improve the game. Greatly appreciated!
Risks and challenges
This is the first official game release for FunDaMental Games. Although we are working on a larger project game, we felt it was important to show a small scale card game to introduce us to the boardgamer world.
The only risks we foresee are in regards to manufacturing and shipping timelines. Although the timelines provided in the Reward tiers are generous, there is always the potential of manufacturing and shipping delays.
The plan for production is to go through Drivethru Cards, and depending on the quantity of backers the shipping may be done personally, or through their distribution channels. Multiple decks have been ordered and received from DTC already, the quality and cuts are to spec, and files are ready for final production.
Art and designs have been completed for all of the core cards and 4 dragons. If stretch goals are met then there will be a 2-3 week timeline for having the additional dragon arts completed.
You WILL get your product, even if it is at our personal expense, and our goal is that you will get it BEFORE the planned delivery date!
We are more than willing to communicate in the Comments chat, or through Email or Messenger if you prefer or a more personal discussion.
Thank you for considering our game!
