Help us open Chicago's first open-door (six days a week, 8 hours a day) gallery dedicated to Gig posters, Art prints and street art.
OUR MISSIONOpening July 2012, Galerie F presents itself to the city of Chicago as the first open-door gallery space. Fully functional six days of the week, all day long, with no appointments required. We seek to contextualize printmaking and street art in the contemporary art scene while promoting local and international artists. Our community, and our city, are essential to our mission.
Come in, browse through our print archives, check out our latest exhibitions, or sign up for screen printing classes. Offering an extensive and affordable collection of gig posters, art posters, and other collectibles for your browsing pleasure.
Galerie F will stem from the currently operating FugScreens Studios. FugScreens is a premiere silkscreen studio located in Wicker Park that specializes in gig posters for local and national bands, as well as fine art prints and festival posters. The gallery will take from Fugscreens an emphasis on printmaking, supporting local artists, and providing a service to our community. We hope to provide affordable and accessible art classes to the public once we open our doors.
WHO WE ARE
Zissou Tasseff-Elenkoff is the founder and owner of FugScreens Studios, partner and initiating company behind Galerie F. Operating a fully functional commercial printmaking studio and having been raised in Paris and London, Zissou seeks to further join a Chicago art community with the international art world. He sees Galerie F as a unique opportunity to present accessible, exciting and varied work to both a local and international audience.
Billy Craven is an active practicing artist living in Chicago and working out of FugScreens Studios. Craven has long interacted with the world of street art and graffiti through his photography. With Craven as co-owner, contemporary street art will play a vital role at Galerie F. Hosting a wide range of national and international street artists in solo and group shows, Craven wishes to blur the lines of fine and street art with Galerie F as the vehicle.Chicago native and art historian Allie Whalen rounds out Galerie F’s team as managing director. As a street art enthusiast, Whalen has studied and written articles on the growth and development of street and outsider art. Whalen’s keen organizational skills and tech savvy will be put to use expanding and managing Galerie F’s physical space and international online presence.
WHERE YOU COME IN
The funds you donate will directly support the space’s opening and each dollar will go to the construction and preparation of our Logan Square location.
UPDATE: We have found our space, but there are some major obstacles in our way before opening. Your donation will fund the repairs and reinstallation of a water-damaged roof and floor, gutting the space, and tearing down walls to make for a more open and accessible floorplan. Please visit us at 2381 N Milwaukee Avenue!
We hope to be able to share the final product with you all in July 2012. By supporting Galerie F, you are helping to create a dynamic, accessible gallery retail space in the heart of Chicago. We thank you in advance for your interest and support.
