The Alphabet in 6 languages, learn and stimulate curiosity
ABC - Alphabet book in 6 languages, learn letters and stimulate children’s curiosity for languages.
This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Sun, November 25 2018 10:59 PM UTC +00:00.
Curiosity has always been for me the incentive to learn. When a few years ago my children started asking me how to say some words in other languages, I came up with the idea of doing this book, an ABC book to learn letters but also to intrigue children to languages by finding words that began with the same letter in many languages.
The zero edition was a print for the family in a few copies, with the cover designed by my son Mattia and the illustrations of my mother. Now I propose to you this version, with the drawings of the talented Giulia Baratella (who worked for DeAgostini, Mondadori, Hachette Livre, Rusconi and others) with the personal conviction that while learning the letters we can stimulate the curiosity of our children and give them something useful for their future.
This book is an ABC book to learn letters, but also it aims to stimulate children’s curiosity so that they grow up without fearing linguistic differences, so that they can understand that learning other languages is not an hard task, and with the hope that this way they will consider such differences a resource rather than a barrier.
DetailsThe book in numbers More than 60 pages (plus the cover), 81 words, translated into 6 languages with a total of 486 words, 53 pictures of objects, people, animals, concepts and places, plus illustrations of 28 European countries with, and, for lovers of precision, 12 phonics pages (2 pages per language) with the phonetic rules and the phonetic version of each word.
Printing process has begun on 160 gram high quality white paper, bound with stitching and glue thread.
The amount collected by the Kickstarter will cover the costs of production, graphics and illustration of the project. In addition to this Fucina Logica has agreed to donate part of the revenues to the "Città della Speranza" Foundation, an international reference center for the study of pediatric diseases who has granted permission to use their logo on the book and that we will proudly print on the cover
As all dreamers we hope our project will skyrocket. But our accountant is a nasty person and gave us this prospect based on our (worste) sales expectation.
All rewards for backers within European Union and the US are custom free.
After searching and selecting the words Giulia begun drawing them, one by one, ofen changing details...
The book contains illustration of persons, things and animals, but also many nations,
And now the first prototypes look like this:
The prototype was printed in a copy shop, while the final version of the book will be printed and professionally bound in typography.
Some History of this project
When I was a child in the summer they always took me to the sea on the Adriatic coast, near Venice, and in those days, we speak of the '70s, tourism in Italy came mainly from Germany. Therefore, knowing the German would assure a job in the thriving tourist industry in the area. And of course my parents sent me to a German course. I hated him deeply. It was all very difficult ... to say Apple (Mela in italian) it was necessary to say "Apfel", to say Pear (Pera in italian) it was "Birne". I was only 7 years old and they seemed like words from another planet. I did not learn German and even now, with some self-taught course and many trips, I know only a few sentences. With our children Stefania and I have never stopped making small trips bringing them always with us. And when they began to ask me how to say certain words in this or that language for a moment I felt the same fear and discomfort of when I tried to interpret those words so different from those that I knew and used every day. Thus the idea of this book was born. The first edition (my Zero edition) was a print for the family in a few copies, with the cover designed by my son Mattia (7 years in 2017) and the drawings designed by my mother or taken from the internet.
