Our names are Victoria and Michael and we created Frozen Fruit Co in Santa Monica, CA. Frozen Fruit Co is a brick and mortar store on Montana Ave where we make frozen treats with one BIG exception. We make everything completely from fruit!
No dairy, no gluten, no bases, nothing artificial, no refined sugars and no artificial flavors, additives or preservatives. Just completely natural frozen treats which taste amazing and you can feel great about eating.
We’ve currently been making our plant based vegan frozen treats fresh every day in our Santa Monica store for the last year and half, but its time to grow. We’re ready to launch our first Plant Based “Ice Cream” Truck! We constantly get asked when our plant based treats will be available across other parts of Los Angeles and a scoop truck is the answer. From visiting different areas to events, our plant based vegan “Ice Cream” truck is the perfect and fun way to do this.

Wait, isn’t this like any other frozen dessert out there?
No. Our frozen treats are completely different. They are not ice cream, sorbet or frozen yogurt. We use no base to make our flavors. We don’t believe in bases. Why should everything be the same? After all, ingredients and flavors are different for a reason. Instead, what we do is take a whole load of fruit (and we mean a load) and mix them together with natural fruit sugars like dates or apples, pears and peaches to create a naturally delicious frozen treat. We let the fruit do the talking and we never add any water to try and bulk out our flavors.
This breaks all the rules of frozen treat making and, you know what, we like that.
The result is a frozen treat which is naturally intense in flavor and unique in texture. It’s a frozen treat you can eat a load of and feel amazing for afterwards. It’s a frozen treat which won’t give you a sugar high because it’s made completely from natural complex fruit sugars. It’s a treat you can feel good about giving to friends and family. It’s a frozen treat you can eat everyday and best of all, it’s completely natural.
Fruit is our go to ingredient and because we use no base it means each flavor is unique and slightly different from the other. From flavor profile to texture. In our Santa Monica store we turn these into soft serves offering an assortment of flavors from Strawberry, Passion Fruit, Mango, Raspberry & Orange, Pina Colada, Blueberry, Apple & Blackberry, Strawberry Banana, Banana Pumpkin Spice to Strawberry Cream. Our star though is our chocolate flavor. Made from cacao, coconut milk and dates (yep, coconuts and cacao are botanically considered fruit) – this flavor is rich, intense and just moreish.
We strongly believe that food should make you feel amazing. From the way it tastes, to the way it makes you feel, to the way it looks and to what it does to your body. Eating something should make your day instantly better. We created our frozen treats because we loved sweet things, but were fed up of the long (and artificial) ingredient lists and inevitable awful feeling which followed after eating many frozen treats.
It is this premise which drives our everyday decision making and hopefully makes you feel the same way. From the moment you visit us to the moment you finish one of our cups.
It is also these same principles we will be taking from our soft serve store to our scoop truck.

Because we already have a brick and mortar store in Santa Monica it means that you can choose to redeem your rewards from either our soft serve store or our scoop truck (or both!)
We love sweet things and we spend a lot of time together (we even get confused for brother and sister, enough times to be concerned about it) – that’s how our journey began. Rewind a few years and we were working as lawyers at the same law firm. We both suffered from a massive sweet tooth, but at the same time were conscious about what we ate – two things which don’t always go together.
Why wasn’t there a frozen treat out there that was completely natural, with a simple ingredient list and you could honestly feel good about eating and feeding to your family. A frozen treat you could even eat for breakfast!
In the beginning, it was tough – recipe development began in our apartment and every waking moment we could spare when we weren’t stuck in the office. People told us it couldn’t be done. That we were wasting our time on something that would be too expensive and was simply “not the way you make frozen treats”. People in the industry told us to use a base, use refined sugar and just add a bunch of water. It was everything we were working against.
We started small making small batches and testing on friends and families and eventually selling to small stores. However, the dream was always to bring our frozen treats to Los Angeles and California – a part of the world we always loved. So, we began the long process of packing our things, selling everything we owned and making the move. Finally, in the Summer of 2016 we opened Frozen Fruit Co – our first brick and mortar store on Santa Monica’s Montana Ave.
The rest, as they say is history. It’s been fruitful and we are ready to grow and reach the other parts of LA people always ask us to come to. We believe the best way and most fun way to do this is a scoop truck.
We have already purchased our truck, a 1990 Chevy P30 Step Van. In its past life it was a soft serve ice cream truck. We have already put together a new set of blueprints and plans to convert the truck to our vegan plant-based “Ice Cream” truck. Our plans have already been approved by LA County Environmental Health. All that is left is to finish the fabrication and alterations to the truck, wrap the exterior and buy the equipment we need to run the truck.
$10,000 – This will be used to finalise the truck fabrication, exterior and purchase the equipment we need to run the truck.
Stretch Goals –
$15,000 - If we reach this we will really go to town with the exterior of the truck and make it super 'instagrammable' from a beautiful wrap to spray painting the tires metallic gold.
$20,000 - If we reach this we will purchase a batch freezer which will allow us to makeband offer more flavors at any one time on the truck.

Risks and challenges
The main risk would be the truck not being approved by the LA County Environmental Health Department on the final inspection. However, the chances of this happening are extremely unlikely. Our blueprints for the plans have already been approved and as long as the truck is finished as per the plans there is no reason it should not be approved. If LA County did have any amendments these can be easily done and the truck can go back for re-inspection and final approval. We are working with a renovation company that specialize in renovating food trucks according to LA County Environmental Health Department guidelines. Also, all the rewards (minus the $500 private catering event reward) will be redeemable in our existing Santa Monica store so are not dependant on the truck.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
