WHY DO YOU NEED MY HELP?
Front Country is finally making and releasing our second full-length studio album! It is turning out to be the coolest thing any of us have ever been involved in, and we are super grateful for the opportunity to play music together around the world and to get to create original art in the studio. We have the album tracked and about to be mixed and mastered and we are so excited to go even bigger with the release of this next record. We started off the process with the band's savings, and some loans from friends, but we are going to need some help to finish and release the project into the world. That’s where you come in!
We have set our goal at $25,000 here on Kickstarter, but realistically, it’s going to take much more than that to finish, design, manufacture, and hire the team to help us release the new album. Actually, in excess of $40,000. Here’s the general budget breakdown, in case you are curious…
PRODUCER, TRACKING, MIXING, MASTERING: $20,000
ALBUM ART, PHOTOS, GRAPHIC DESIGN: $2,000
LICENSING AND PUBLISHING: $1,000
MANUFACTURING OF INITIAL RUN: $3,000
MAILING COSTS AND KICKSTARTER FEES: $4,000
PUBLICITY / RADIO PROMOTION / ADS: $15,000
~~~TOTAL~~~~ $45,000 ~~~~~~
Here’s the thing… we set our goal at $25,000 to make sure we cover the initial costs of making the record, but we are hoping to exceed that goal if possible in order to give it a solid push out of the nest and let it fly! If a record is released in the forest but nobody hears about it, does it make a sound? Well, we certainly hope so, since we will have already spent $25k making it! But it’s going to be so much cooler if it makes a big splash and lots of new people get to hear it, and you get to be all ahead-of-the-curve and say, “yeah, I got that record before it even came out!” The official release and publicity campaign is currently slated for Spring of 2017, but if you go all-in with us, here and now, by pledging to our Kickstarter, you will get your copy in December!
WHAT IS THE NEW ALBUM LIKE??
This new album is a huge step up for Front Country. We always set out to top the last recording and be better versions of ourselves as players, singers, songwriters and arrangers, and this record is absolutely that. Melody sent the band over 20 new songs and we picked 8 of her originals to be on the new album - they range from full-on country and Americana songs to catchy bubblegum pop and heartbreaking ballads. Roscoe has three new gorgeous original instrumentals on the record, with textures from bluegrass to classical. Rounding out the 13 track listing is one traditional, and one cover song. It’s the most original-heavy album we have created so far, and the arrangements borrow from rock, Americana, bluegrass, funk, country, jazz, R&B and pop, all while maintaining the rootsy orchestral tendencies Front Country has been exploring since the beginning.
WHO IS WES CORBETT???
He’s our producer! Wes Corbett founded and toured with the progressive Boston-based string band Joy Kills Sorrow for almost a decade. He plays the banjo and also produces records. We brought Wes on as producer to balance out our West Coast vibes and bring a level of focus and firm precision to the project. A producer also acts as an impartial set of trained ears to maintain objectivity and clarity of vision in the immersive recording process. Wes did all that and more, keeping us on-schedule and keeping our arrangements tight and economical. It was great to work with another artist who has approached the progressive string band genre from a slightly different angle. Wes both understood us as a band and a sound, and could offer fresh ideas outside of our usual instincts. It was a perfect match and a joy to work with him. He is overseeing the mixing and mastering of the record in Nashville next month, collaborating with acoustic audio god, Dave Sinko.
WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME????
There are many sides to this Kickstarter campaign - on the one hand, it’s a pre-sale for the new record - for a quick $10 or $20 you can pre-order your digital or physical copy of the new album, ensuring it ends up in your hot little hands before anyone else. On another hand, it’s like a digital merchandise table, where for $30 to $100 you can also pick up hats, tee shirts, poster prints, previous CDs and baked goods in addition to your copy of the brand new album. On a whole other level, it’s a crazy, interactive exercise in community - where for $100 and up you can be a super-backer and get rewards like liner note mentions, music lessons, original ringtones, custom cover song videos, private cheffery, backstage access, a personal workshop of holiday elves, and even a Front Country concert in your living room! We definitely need your help to reach our goal, so we tried to make it worth your while.
HOW ELSE CAN I HELP?????
Even if you can’t pledge any actual $$$ to help us reach our goal (though even a single dollar helps), you can absolutely give us a huge assist by simply sharing this Kickstarter page and social media posts around to your friends and community. We only have 45 days to get the word out so the more you share it, the better we will do. Getting out the message to our fans and extended circle of friends is every bit as important as the contributions that come in. In the long term, we are always looking for your participation and aid in spreading news about Front Country concerts and new music. Thank you for not being a stranger!
Risks and challenges
