--The Lost Lands--
The Blight - Richard Pett's Crooked City
"...You've just entered the wrong side of town..."
The Blight is a Campaign Setting and Adventure Path for Pathfinder and Swords & Wizardry
The Blight is a mega-campaign book and adventure path along the lines of Frog God Games releases like Sword of Air, The Slumbering Tsar Saga, The Northlands Saga Complete, and Cults of the Sundered Kingdoms. And like those books it includes both a vast compendium of gazetteer information about the area it covers as well as adventure, adventure, adventure!! Clocking in at over 550,000 words, The Blight is also the single-largest print product ever produced by Frog God Games...surpassing even the might of the The Slumbering Tsar Saga in its magnitude. Though it has not been through layout yet, so that a page count is an estimate at best, we anticipate that this book will be at or around 900 pages in length.
The Blight is two books in one with the first half devoted to a campaign guide with a complete history, timeline, and overview of the city as well as new classes, players options*, and races, along with a detailed gazetteer of each of the city's 13 districts. The last half comprises the adventure path, Levee, a campaign set within the rotten and degenerate urban confines of the city, where the PCs must scratch and claw their way to survival starting at 1st level and continuing through 9 adventures -- each one highlighting a different city district -- all the way to 10th level and above. The book also includes a player-friendly, full-color poster map of the city to enhance everyone's enjoyment of the place.
*No new classes for the Swords & Wizardry version: Matt said "no."
Frog God Games will be produce the book in Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Fifth Edition, and Swords & Wizardry versions.
Oh, and one more thing, The Blight is dark...so very dark. A landscape of desperation and depravity, The Blight takes the usual no-holds-barred gritty adventure style of Frog God Games and cranks it up another notch. The Blight does not violate the restrictions of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Compatibility License and never abandons good taste, but it is gruesome and it does not paint a rosy picture. Consequently the materials of The Blight may not be suitable for some audiences below the age of 13. Forewarned is forearmed, and we always advocate that game products be purchased wisely and age-appropriately.
The Blight is a City of Despair, Urban Fantasy Horror, and High Adventure by a Master of the Genre
It’s Clark Ashton Smith and China Miéville, Lovecraft and Dickens, Shelley and Carroll all in a festering brew of toil, tears, and injustice just screaming for heroes to clean up the streets (more likely to die—or worse—trying) or anti-heroes to clean up the streets (or at least a little corner in which to set up their own rackets). The Blight is a city that never sleeps but is never fully awake, living in the shadow of its own dark dream. An insane royalty, a corrupt judiciary, a decadent aristocracy, and a half-living proletariat all jumbled together amid a thousand thousand monsters…some of them not even of the human variety.
The Blight is also an urban campaign setting that can be lifted as a whole or in part out of the Lost Lands and placed into your own campaign world as needed for those times when you need a thoroughly decadent and corrupt urban environment but don’t have the time invent one from whole cloth. Portability was a primary concern in the creation of the Blight. Even a little corner of the Blight will provide you with hundreds of ideas and opportunities for enthralling urban adventures in your fantasy roleplaying campaign.
The Blight is the Return of The Styes from the Late Days of Dungeon Magazine
The Blight is over a decade old and has gone by many names. If you’re familiar with Richard Pett’s work, then you may recall a series of adventures that he wrote for Dungeon Magazine set in a decadent urban center called the Styes. A fan favorite, in the final print issue of the magazine, “The Styes” was chosen as the Top All-time Adventure Location to ever appear in the magazine's hallowed pages. However, when the magazine’s license was not renewed, its print run ended and Richard lost the rights to the setting that was not only his invention but was the setting of his home campaign. Traces of the Styes have appeared here and there over the years, in the Pathfinder adventure Carrion Hill from Paizo, in Rich’s own novel Crooked from Broken Eye Books, but never has he been able to commit the full setting to publication—because of its immensity and because of the fear that he could lose the rights to it once again.
However Frog God Games, working in close cooperation with Richard Pett, has brought the Blight to the Lost Lands where it could shine in all its own grimy glory and through extensive development work with Greg Vaughan make it work seamlessly as a part of the larger world that is the Lost Lands setting. And just as was done when Frog God Games resurrected the long-thought dead-and-buried Razor Coast and brought it finally to print, with publication of The Blight we have finally been able to bring it in all its dank majesty to publication and yet enabled Rich to retain the rights to his brain-child as well.
The Blight is a Lost Lands Campaign Expansion
Lest you think we've just turned over the keys of the kingdom to Richard and let him have his way with the Lost Lands (we'd never do that, the cad!), rest assured. The Blight is pure Richard Pett genius, but as with Razor Coast, Sword of Air, and old Necromancer Games titles like Gary Gygax's Necropolis that were not written with the Lost Lands as they currently exist specifically in mind,we've taken what was written and made it very much our own. Greg Vaughan, Bill Webb, and Matt Finch of Frog God Games have extensively reviewed and reworked The Blight to both keep its original Richard Pett flare and yet fit seamlessly and organically into the Lost Lands canon and geography. No rough shoehorning here. The Blight is Lost Lands, and the Lost Lands includes the Blight, and always has...
The City-State of Castorhage
Since the earliest development of the Lost Lands, there has been a city-state called Castorhage sitting upon its rocky, coastal island surrounded by murky tidal waters and the stench and effluvia of its over-burdening population. Part City-State of the Invincible Overlord, part New Crobuzon, and part a surface-world version of Erelhei-Cinlu, Castorhage was where I placed the Styes for my home campaign and where, in my heart of hearts, I always knew the Blight should sit. When the opportunity arose and I approached Richard, he loved the idea and immediately saw Castorhage as the perfect landing pad for his long-wandering city. Don't get me wrong, you can place some or all of the Blight anywhere you like, but in the Lost Lands canon, it is more formally known as Castorhage.
Welcome to the Blight.
How the Pledge Levels Work
We learned a thing or two from our previous Kickstarter with the Borderland Provinces, and one of those things was that if we made backing the Kickstarter easier, then it's a win for everyone. As a result, we've organized the pledge levels for this book in the same way: the pledge levels over on the right are organized like a buffet. You don't have to scroll around forever looking for the exact combination you want. Instead, right now, all you have to do is pick the number of hardcovers you want. When you get the BackerKit after the Kickstarter, that's when you tell us which rules-version you want.
So right now, it doesn't matter if you want a copy of The Blight in Pathfinder, 5e, or in Swords & Wizardry. Those are the same pledge. You don't have to tell us any more than that until the BackerKit survey. Just pledge for the book at this time, you don't have to specify which one. The same holds true of any of the add-ons below; you just add the dollar amount to your pledge to cover those add-on titles, and then in the BackerKit survey at the end tell us how you want that money allocated between titles and in which versions, where applicable. Please note: Some titles only have a Pathfinder version since they deal with Pathfinder-specific rules that do not have analogs in the 5e and Swords & Wizardry game. But in cases like that, it will be clearly stated in the product descriptions below.
The base price for a single volume of The Blight for any rules-version in this Kickstarter is $135. Yes it's steep, but at an estimated 900 pages of campaign and adventure, including a full-adventure path and campaign materials equaling over 550,000 words, it's the equivalent of more than 3 Paizo adventure paths of material for less than the price of 1 -- along with the addition of the pdf for free. Plus with an extra-long Kickstarter campaign that extends through Christmas, we wanted everyone to have plenty of time to back even if they just can't commit the funds right now. The Frogs are well aware that the price of this kind of product is high, and we want to make it as easy for you as possible if you want in.

$16 softcover/$7 PDF - The Crucible (available in Pathfinder, 5e, and Swords & Wizardry versions): Don’t go to sleep. Some say dreams of fire are haunting the night, and that if you dream of burning, you awaken on fire.
People in the Blight begin to awaken at night burning with an all-too-real fire. Most of them die horribly, spouses or lovers staring in shocked horror at their sudden death throes in the grip of consuming flames. A few of the truly unlucky actually manage to survive -- if living in such a state can be called survival. There seems to be no rhyme or reason in the victims of these incinerating dreams, as those among the high and low fall victim to its touch, and the locals each pray that he or she will not be next.
Now no one dares to sleep.
By renowned author and creator of the Blight, Richard Pett, The Crucible is a 7th-level stand-alone adventure of urban horror set in his own crooked city of the Blight. This adventure may not be suitable for children below the age of 13. (Projected retail $19.95)
$16 softcover/$7 PDF - Bloody Jack (available in Pathfinder, 5e, and Swords & Wizardry versions): All the children of the Blight know the nursery rhymes about Bloody Jack Carver, cautionary tales for naughty or overly inquisitive children to mind their manners and obey their parents. However, their parents know the true horror of those times 30 years ago when the lunatic serial killer known as Bloody Jack Carver stalked the fog-shrouded streets of the Blight and abducted children to murder and mutilate. The killing spree finally ended, though not before the number of dead and missing children had reached into the scores, but the perpetrator himself was never caught or identified. The parents and the Watch gave a collective sigh of relief, hoping that one of the haunted city’s other horrors of the night had perhaps claimed the life of the blood-drenched psychopath and ended his reign of terror once and for all.
When the PCs are deputized and called in to assist in a homicide investigation, though, they find terrifying clues that point to the three-decade-old Bloody Jack killings and signs to indicate that they were just the beginning. Now the PCs are in a race against time across the breadth of the decrepit and deteriorating city that is the Blight as they attempt to stop a killing spree by the child murderer before it can start anew. The PCs’ investigation takes them from the halls of the Capitol and the seedy streets and alleys of Toiltown to the garish carnival piers of Festival and the pollutant-crusted banks of the Great Lyme River. Only they stand between the children of the decayed city and new nursery rhymes being written in their blood.
By Frog God Games Creative Director Greg A. Vaughan, Bloody Jack is a stand-alone adventure set in the Blight is for 4th-level characters and was playtested over multiple-day game slots at PaizoCon, North Texas RPG Con, and Pacificon in 2012. All surviving players were summarily executed. This adventure may not be suitable for players under the age of 13. (Projected retail $19.95)

You may select Pathfinder, 5e, or Swords & Wizardry versions, or one of each for $4,500. Steel-clad books will not be available outside of the Kickstarter. The following stretch goals will become unlocked at the appropriate Kickstarter pledge levels.
Note: Some of the stretch goals are free when unlocked and will automatically be applied to your pledge, but others have additional prices listed below when unlocked. (Projected retail $29.95)
$80,000 Horror in the Sinks (add $10 softcover/$4 PDF) UNLOCKED - (available in Pathfinder, 5e, and Swords & Wizardry versions): Lurking in the drowning folly that is the aristocratic enclave of the Sinks, the horrific Asylum, shunned by a citizenry terrified of the revelations it may contain, is where the nobles of the Blight bury their secrets. But when too many overseers are killed—and in ways more gruesome than even the brutality of that location might evoke—someone must enter to investigate. Those who do soon learn that life—if it can be called that—within its walls is even worse than they feared and the truths that nestle within its inmates are far more distressing than mere madness.
By relative newcomer, yet already-well-established Pathfinder author with writing credits in Paizo Adventure Path #99, the Pathfinder Bestiary 5, and the forthcoming Paizo products Ultimate Intrigue and Horror Adventures, Alistair Rigg, Horror in the Sinks is a disturbing adventure for 3rd level characters set in one of the darkest corners of the urban dystopia known as the Blight. It contains graphic content that may not be suitable for younger players. (Projected retail $14.95)
$82,000 The Blight Player's Handbook (add $16 softcover/$7 PDF) UNLOCKED - (available in PATHFINDER ONLY): Not to be confused with The Blight Player's Guide (under Add Ons above), which is a system neutral player's guide to the city, The Blight Player's Handbook includes all of the player rules included in The Blight GM Guide (under Add Ons) made available for the players in your game as an easily available reference for them to use without having to have access to the GM-heavy information found in the main book of The Blight or The Blight GM Guide. It also includes the pre-generated Blight characters unlocked with the $76,000 stretch goal in case your players would like to use them. Note: All of the material provided in this book is already present in the main book of The Blight and/or The Blight GM Guide once the stretch goal is unlocked, so purchase of this is not necessary for your players to join and play in your Blight campaign. (Projected retail $19.95)
$84,000 The Crooked Nail (add $10 softcover/$4 PDF) UNLOCKED - (available in Pathfinder, 5e, and Swords & Wizardry versions): For decades, Theatre Infernalis offered shocking and frightful entertainment to customers of the Artists’ Quarter. Those who entered the strange doorway nestled between the cheeks of the façade’s gaping demonic mouth saw a decrepit theatre transformed from a macabre tavern and playhouse into a frightful portrait of the eternal torment that awaits all sinners, and few cabarets rivaled the efficiency of Theatre Infernalis’ leering demonic automatons, macabre mortomatons, and spook house haunts to set patrons screaming into the streets.
Now rumors tell of the aging and supposedly-cursed proprietor’s deteriorating health and the theatre’s impending sale, and the Artists’ Quarter has been abuzz with those seeking one final fright with a walk through the crucible-licked walls of the infernal house of the macabre before its final curtain call. But are the theatre’s smoke-and-mirrors and cheap scares hiding a truly wicked secret? What is the nature of the curse and illness that afflict the owner? And did foul and profane rites once take place between its walls that outside forces now seek to exploit? What happens when the spookshow’s fun and games transform into a terrifying reality, threatening to spill forth an infernal malevolence onto the streets of the Blight?
The Crooked Nail is a horrific 1st-level introductory adventure into the world of the Blight, by Paizo Adventure Path and Pathfinder Module veteran Brandon Hodge. It has some gruesome content and may not be suitable for audiences under the age of 13. (Projected retail $14.95)
$86,000 Tales of the Lost Lands: The Blight – Scoured to the Bone – (FREE PDF!) If you liked Rich's novel Crooked, you'll love Scoured to the Bone. (Projected retail the $3).
$88,000 The Children of the Harvest (add $10 softcover/$4 PDF) UNLOCKED - (available in Pathfinder, 5e, and Swords & Wizardy versions): Four words: The Blight/Bill Webb. Created for characters of 9th level, The Children of the Harvest includes some gruesome content and may not be suitable for children under the age of 13. (Projected retail $12.00)
$90,000 The Tome of Blighted Horrors (add $12 softcover/$5 PDF) UNLOCKED - (available in Pathfinder, 5e, and Swords & Wizardry versions): This book is a Blight GM's best friend; it takes the 24 new monsters and templates to be found in the Bestiary chapter of the The Blight GM Guide and breaks them out into a separate softcover book/pdf for ease of reference. But in addition to this is adds another 8 new Blight and Between monsters to this mix bringing the total up to 32 new monsters plus a selection of suggested encounters, sample lairs, etc. for easily allowing a GM to plug them into his or her Blight campaign. These additional new monsters and the lair/encounter material are not included in the The Blight GM Guide or the main book. The Tome of Blighted Horrors is the only way to get this additional material. (Projected retail $16.00)

$100,000 5e HARDCOVER EDITION UNLOCKED
We're converting it to pdf already, but if we hit this goal it will fund our ability to print the 5e version as a hardback book!!$103,000 - The Blight: Pathologies (add $3 PDF each) - (available in Pathfinder, 5e, and Swords & Wizardry versions): The Frog God Games Lost Lore PDF line is coming to The Blight. The Pathologies will focus in on a single location, neighborhood, NPC, or lair and provide a detailed write-up running approximately 5,000 words (or more). These will be things not specifically detailed in the main book or any of the adventures, though they could be drawn from any of those where they might have been mentioned in passing and otherwise expanded on.
To tell the truth we don't know exactly what they're going to be, because we didn't realize the Kickstarter was going to reach these heights. So we'll just have to pick the devious brains of Richard and his demented cohorts to see what they might come up with. (Projected retail $3.99)

Not familiar with the Lost Lore series from Frog God Games? These are PDFs that take little bite-size looks at the Lost Lands campaign setting of Frog God Games. They are 100% canonical for the setting and are completely unique in that each provides new canonical information that cannot be found in any other FGG product. They're our gateway product to allow an extremely low-level buy-in for customers to take a look at some of the creative materials and mechanics that the Lost Lands have to offer. But don't take my word for it. Below we've attached a link to a free PDF of one of our previously released Lost Lore article. Town of Glory describes a small frontier town and provides rules on how PCs can not only make it their home but can also grow it and influence its course as their adopted home. It is written using the Pathfinder rules, but all of The Blight: Pathologies will have Pathfinder, 5e, and Swords & Wizardry versions and will be specifically tied into people, places, and things within The Blight itself. So enjoy, and feel free to check out the other Lost Lore articles available at froggodgames.com.

$120,000 Signed Copies of The Blight UNLOCKED: If we reach these truly-inspired heights, all print versions of the book will include a front plate signed by Richard and all of the principal cast, writers, and developers involved in making this project a reality. Be advised, some of these signatures may be fairly illegible; there have been a lot of failed Sanity checks in those people who have been forced to work closely with The Blight.
UBER Stretch Goals!
Help us reach these incredible heights, and we can really rock this thing!
$200,000 Shipping Discount!! – If we achieve this lofty goal, we will extend a 10% discount on shipping for all backers on their Kickstarter order. LOCKED
$300,000 The Blight in Full Color - We will print the main book in full color at no additional cost to the backers who have purchased the book. The additional time needed to secure color art will delay delivery of the book to backers by approximately 3 months. LOCKED
We had the option of collecting shipping fees during this Kickstarter campaign or through BackerKit. We have decided to collect shipping fees through BackerKit for the following reasons:
Collecting shipping fees during the campaign artificially increases the funding level of the campaign.
Collecting shipping fees through BackerKit prevents our backers from having to pre-pay for shipping months in advance.
By collecting shipping fees shortly before fulfillment, we will be able to most accurately determine shipping costs based on actual book weights instead of estimating.
All backers are required to pay additional shipping charges beyond their pledge. Please refer to FAQ at the bottom of the page for estimated shipping charges. These charges will be assessed for payment upon completion of a BackerKit survey which will sent after the successful conclusion of this Kickstarter.

Risks and challenges
Our only foreseeable risk is if our production facility gets backlogged or if there is a production delay. Our printer is a large producer of college text books and yearbooks, so depending on the time of year they can have a suddenly busy production schedule. We have been using them for our big books for the last 5 years, and they have always been reliable, but if our order gets caught in a text or yearbook crush it can cause delays in the printing. This has not been a problem to date but is always a remote possibility.
A production delay could include lost files due to a computer crash (we have backups), or if one of our key people suffers real-life difficulties such as illness, etc. The books are already written, so this risk is mainly at the layout and shipping phases.
Regarding the High Priest of the Temple Dallas Pledge Level:
First, no chains, taunting, or throwing of eggs will actually be allowed.
Second, if for some reason Richard's schedule changes and will not allow him to come to Dallas for the convention, when we learn of that development we will refund you $3,000 of your $6,000 pledge and treat it as a Temple Dallas 2 pledge level but with many additional goodies thrown in to reward you for having made the effort and monetary commitment early on to bring him.
