All Wave 1 miniatures now unlocked! New starter forces and one-click bundles have been added as pledges and add-ons, so you can easily grab the new miniatures regardless of what you originally pledged for.
No credit card? No problem! You can now back via PayPal! Just head over to the following link: PayPal Backer Page. Any funding we generate through PayPal will contribute towards unlocking stretch goals, and we'll keep a running total right here on the campaign page.
Got a question about the game? Let us know by posting a comment and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. In the meantime here are some of the ways that you can help spread the word:
Pledging for Shattered Earth couldn't be simpler. If you just want a few miniatures or would like to mix and match factions, you can pledge however much you want at the SCAVENGER level and choose your items from the list of add-ons.
However, the best way to get started with the game - and pick up the limited edition Lee Kyong-Min miniature in the process - is to pledge for the TWO-PLAYER BUNDLE, which includes eight high-quality resin miniatures for you and a friend to enjoy.
For those looking to collect a single faction, you can easily pick up one of the STARTER FORCES or, if you want to get deeper into a faction - plus enjoy a nice discount in the process - you can pick up one the three ONE-CLICK BUNDLES instead.
At any level you can always increase the amount you have pledged to cover any add-ons that are available, with more being added to the list as we unlock stretch goals. Also, all of the rules needed to play Shattered Earth will be made available for free as digital downloads, no matter what you pledge for.
Please note that all $ and € prices listed above are approximations only.
We've already produced more miniatures than those found in the starter forces, and new miniatures and accessories will be added as stretch goals are unlocked.
To purchase add-ons from this list, simply work out the cost of each additional item you want, then increase your pledge by that amount. It’s that simple! Everything will be handled by our pledge manager after the campaign ends, so there’ll be no complicated spreadsheets to navigate. As a thank you to everyone that backs us on Kickstarter, all add-ons are priced at a discount off their eventual RRP.
Now that we've unlocked all Wave 1 miniatures and the softback mini rulebook, there is one big stretch goal left to help us fund the premium hardback rulebook.
Shattered Earth is a skirmish-level tabletop war game set in a post-apocalyptic universe filled with wondrous technology and existential horror. The game is designed for both players and collectors, and is predicated on three key pillars: superbly detailed resin miniatures, free-flowing rules with tactical depth, and a detailed and engaging back story.
The game begins in the year 30 A.E. – 30 years after the last recorded disaster, known as the End of Days that occurred in 2042. The Earth that remains is an almost alien landscape; repeated volcanic eruptions have choked the atmosphere with ash, and the geology of the Earth is forever changed, now cracked and broken, existing landmasses drowned in vast oceans whilst others have formed anew, created by the seismic movements of tectonic plates.
Each cataclysmic shock-wave set off by these natural disasters also pounded against the door of another world – a mirror image of our own – until eventually that door gave way. The resulting breaches flooded the Earth with an esoteric power known as Ether, a volatile energy that is the very foundation of the immateria, the world of dreams and nightmares. In return, the material world bled into each breach, corrupting and choking everything it touched.
Humanity now struggles to comprehend this new power, seeing in it both ruin and salvation. Scientists will attempt to harness its energy to create wondrous new technology, whilst others will practice dark rituals and worship strange new powers, using Ether to alter their surroundings and themselves, bending reality to their whim.
Shattered Earth: Emergence is the first chapter in an ongoing saga, telling the story of humanity’s struggle for survival in this broken landscape.
Shattered Earth features a unique range of highly-detailed resin miniatures. In just 10 minutes we showcase every miniature we have produced so far, including a detailed look at the pro-painted studio miniatures. This is a great way to see things up close, and find out about the people that made it all happen.
The world of Shattered Earth is a dangerous place, but there are rich rewards waiting out there for those willing to take the risk. In the wake of the Event – the decades-long series of natural disasters that tore the world apart – many factions have sprung up to lay claim to land that was once theirs, and open conflict in the wastelands is rife.
Established out of a necessary co-operation between the USA and Russia, the United Nations of Mankind (UNM) is the largest of the human factions. They have the largest population, the safest cities, and the greatest resources. They believe in the values that drove humanity’s evolution prior to the Event, and seek a return to those days.
Life in the UNM is little different from how it was several decades before; people go to work, form relationships, enlist in the military. Resources are far harder to obtain, but the sharp drop in the world’s population has balanced this out somewhat. That being said, the UNM dedicates the majority of its efforts towards securing what exploitable resources remain on Earth, and defending its borders.
The UNM have slowly begun to embrace Ether as another resource to be exploited, but they do so with caution. Their military still relies heavily on projectile weaponry, and their machines are still powered by oil and gas. Their soldiers are well-disciplined and well-drilled, with crack teams of elite rangers – known colloquially as Tier Zero Operators – venturing out into the Shattered Earth to lay claim to the land beyond their borders.
The chaoskampf – or ‘struggle against chaos’ – is almost as old as civilisation itself. Every culture and religion tells of a single hero’s battle against an insidious, serpent god: Marduk versus Tiamat, Yahweh versus Leviathan, Christ versus the Devil. The Cult of the Dragon is the apex of this belief, a swirling maelstrom of chaos and destruction, where complete freedom is the ultimate goal.
Today, the Cult of the Dragon occupies a number of Pacific islands formed from the remnants of Old Earth. Their unhindered experimentation with Ether and flesh-grafting has created singular monstrosities, each one a work of grotesque genius. Though they may lack in numbers, their zeal and determination – not to mention a complete disregard for their own safety – present a unique challenge for any of the other factions.
In the wake of the Event, when the remnants of humanity were struggling to comprehend what had happened to their world, something else began to take root. With the barrier between our world and the world of dreams at its thinnest, and with scientists and occultists alike toying with a power they did not fully comprehend, a door was left open. And through that door, darkness poured out.
If the UNM are to be believed, then that is all the Deathless are – a sinister and deadly foe to be expunged at all costs. But like all things we do not fully understand, the truth is not nearly so clear-cut. Since time immemorial the Deathless have watched our world through our own eyes. And they have shaped the thoughts and feelings of many; from gifted artists to serial killers – all have been at the whim of the beings from the realm of dreams. Regardless of their ultimate aims, one question above all has plagued those who dare to think it: did we dream them into existence, or did we dream about them because they existed?
After the first disasters struck, organised religion was in disarray. For most people of faith this was literally the end of days; but around ten years after the Breaking of the World began, something miraculous happened. A woman calling herself the Prophet of the One True God appeared in a vision to all people of faith simultaneously. She called upon her followers – each in their native tongue – to travel to Jerusalem, where they would build a new religion dedicated to an old god. Based fundamentally on Abrahamic beliefs, and in respect of all their teachings, this new religion would grow to become the largest organised religion in the world.
The Children of the One True God believe that the Breaking of the World was caused by the sins of man: that humanity had strayed too far from God’s light. They have taken it upon themselves, under the guidance of the Prophet and the steady-hand of the Council of the Three, to usher forth a new era for humanity, one born of traditional values and heavily grounded in spiritual faith.
Every day, more and more survivors seek out the Children, and they are the fastest-growing of the major human factions. Their foot soldiers are the faithful, their leaders former priests, rabbis, and imams. They harness Ether – a gift from God – to work miracles, and use technology only when necessary. They are the Chosen, and the fires of their faith will light up the darkness.
The Humanist Rebellion was once known as the European Socialist Collective (ESC), and part of the UNM. A difference in ideology – the UNM was conservative and territorial, the ESC more progressive – led to a separation and, eventually, open rebellion. Originally built upon modern, socialist principles, and rejecting spiritualism and rampant capitalism, the Humanist Rebellion is the ESC locked and loaded, and ready for war.
The forces of the Humanist Rebellion are made up of small, specialised units, wielding the latest experimental technology. What they lack in numbers compared to their largest rival, they make up for with cutting-edge technology born out of the new science of Etherology. They favour stealth above out-and-out conflict, and have been the first to trial limited-range flight. Their capital city is the newly-reopened port of Monaco on the southern French coast, giving them access to many trade routes – at least for those willing to brave the roiling seas of the Shattered Earth.
Rejecting the status quo, the Humanist Rebellion is dedicated to ushering in the next evolutionary step for humanity. They see the Event as an opportunity to rebuild this world, to make it fairer for all, and to them there is nothing more precious than human life. Yet they have many enemies, and it is no small concern that they must make war with the rest of humanity in order to save them.

Simon sat down with Ash from Guerrilla Miniature Games just before this Kickstarter went live, and it's a great listen if you want some in-depth discussion about the game and its setting.
We visited the fantastic people at Beasts of War recently and had a blast chatting with Warren about the game. If you've got 40 minutes or so to spare, this video is a great way to get a broad overview of what Shattered Earth is all about.
Top Table Wargaming have posted up a great preview of the unassembled miniatures, so please check it out if you want to see what they look like straight from the box.
If you would like to write an article about us, you can get access to all the latest assets and company information at the following link: Massive Awesome Press Site.
John and Simon love Kickstarter. We've backed over 30 projects between us and will continue to invest in great products made by passionate creators.
We are taking Shattered Earth to Kickstarter in order to finalise the development of the first three starter forces. We have already invested a considerable amount of our own money into producing concept art, sculpts and prototype miniatures, but we need your help to finish the job. The additional funding will enable us to scale up to a fully-realised retail product that will launch towards the end of this year.
More importantly, all of the money raised through Kickstarter will be reinvested by Massive Awesome to continue the development of Shattered Earth.
Shattered Earth: Emergence is due to be released in waves, with Wave 1 anticipated to ship during October 2016, and subsequent waves following every couple of months. Each item that becomes available via the Kickstarter will list which shipping wave it is due to be released in. As each pledge can contain items from multiple different waves, a shipping cost is not included in any of the pledges. Instead, all shipping costs will be calculated via our pledge manager after the campaign ends, so please do not add a shipping cost to your pledge. This is pretty standard for miniature war games, and allows each backer the flexibility of paying one shipping cost and having all their items shipped when the last wave is available, or paying a bit more to have each wave shipped when it’s ready.
Please note that all items will ship from the United Kingdom, and we anticipate that we will use Royal Mail for Kickstarter fulfilment. You can find the most up-to-date postage costs by downloading the PDF from the following link: Royal Mail Shipping Costs March 2015.
We know that sometimes, for whatever reason, your initial excitement for the hottest new game can wane. Therefore, if you pledge to support Shattered Earth on Kickstarter and you decide that the game isn't for you up until the point that your order ships, you can cancel that order and obtain a full refund. Whilst we’ll be disappointed and curious to know your reasons, we believe that being fair with our backers is a better policy than taking their money for something they no longer want.
Shattered Earth is produced by Massive Awesome, a new independent hobby start-up formed by two life-long friends: veteran video game designer Simon Barlow and investment banking project manager John Taylor.

Risks and challenges
There is always a risk with any Kickstarter, especially one which is the first project from a new independent company. While that may be the case with Shattered Earth, we are certainly not inexperienced ourselves. Simon was previously Design Director for Sony Computer Entertainment, and spent 15 years in the video games industry; John has 15 years of experience managing multi-million dollar projects at three leading international banks and was previously a tournament-level Magic: the Gathering player. We have invested a significant amount of our own money to get to where we are, and are collaborating with trusted partners and industry veterans to ensure our ability to deliver a professional product.
We have already run through a full production cycle and ironed out any of the problems we encountered prior to launching this campaign, resulting in the beautiful miniatures we have shown you and giving you the confidence that the models you see on our page are exactly what you will be receiving.
Through backing many Kickstarter projects ourselves, we recognise that the most common problem with tabletop projects is with delivery timelines. And while we are doing as much as possible to minimise potential delays, by keeping all production in the UK and going through an entire production run pre-campaign etc, we accept that we cannot foresee every problem or eventuality that we might run into.
If we greatly exceed our funding goal and knock down all of our stretch goals, we’ll need to grow pretty quickly to cope with demand. That might mean changes to production schedules while we scale up, but rest assured we’ll keep everyone informed along the way with regular, honest communication.
We are being completely open and transparent about our progress and methodology as demonstrated by a weekly article series detailing our work to this point that can be found on the Beasts of War website here: www.beastsofwar.com/massive-awesome.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
