What are you funding?
We have designed a series of four distinctive, signature Memory Games that we are launching in the national marketplace. This is a unique product for kids by kids. This new version of a family favorite game features the vibrant, inspirational images of children’s artwork from the collection of Fresh Artists, an award winning nonprofit serving severely under-resourced public school children.
Although there are many commercial versions of memory games out there, we have yet to find one utilizing the gorgeous, zany artwork of children, making the Fresh Artists games one-of-a-kind products. The artwork has been created, selected & licensed (by the kids and their parents) to Fresh Artists to raise funds for art supplies for poor schools. The brilliant message in these games is, “Kids can make a difference and their voices are being heard”.
We are now raising the funds to print, package & distribute these interactive, intergenerational, educational games to you, your family and a few 1,000 others!
What’s the money going towards?
The four premiere editions of Fresh Artists Memory Game include Fresh Food, Fresh Faces, Fresh Art and Fresh Architecture. Each game comes packaged in a sturdy box, complete with 54 sturdy, colorful tiles featuring children’s exceptional artwork. For example, the Fresh Foods variation features a rainbow trout, a box of blueberries, a bunch of collard greens, a head of garlic etc. The game also includes recognition of each young artist as an artist and a philanthropist and tells the story of Fresh Artists and how we came to be.
To be certain we are successful in reaching our fundraising goal we have put together a modest budget. This will give us the buying power to create special dies, print, package, market and distribute our premiere run of games. But PLEASE, get your friends to invest, and their friends, and their friends! It would thrill the kids to far exceed our goal so we can make a ton more of these exceptional games for long-term national, retail distribution.
The more made, the more sold, the more people bear witness to this powerful artwork and the need to support access to art-making for vulnerable children in public schools struggling with severe funding cutbacks.
How did we come up with this idea?
Our crackerjack idea began with a group of talented, wildly creative inner-city kids and one resourceful Philadelphia inner city art teacher, Ms. Robyn Miller. Utilizing discarded paint sample color chips from Home Depot, Ms. Miller came up with an art project, making paper mosaics out of recycled materials. The power of what the children created with throwaway materials resonated so deeply with us, we wanted to mobilize their art, getting it into the hands of young and old across the country and beyond. Calling on childhood memories of our favorite family box game, the Fresh Artists Memory Games were born!
Why use Kickstarter for this launch?
As social entrepreneurs, Fresh Artists wants the kids who donated their artwork to observe how a small business venture can come to life. Hundreds will be watching Kickstarter work its magic each day… seeing funding increase with each investor! This is a powerful teaching tool and a real-life demonstration of one of our key goals: showing kids that being an artist or a designer can be a real job, not just a hobby. The Memory Game project is the first in a series of products the kids want to bring to the marketplace such as creating other games, wrapping paper, and branded sketchbooks and art kits. They love the idea of watching their brainstorming and brilliant artwork stir up real sales across the country!
Who are we?
Fresh Artists is a nonprofit organization, a social entrepreneurship promoting access for all children to the transformative, self-expression of art making and philanthropy. By engaging inner city children as full partners in philanthropy and widely exhibiting their artwork in highly visible and unexpected places, we are able to provide quality art supplies and innovative programs to their severely under-resourced public schools. Fresh Artists was founded in 2008, and has engaged 517 K-12 kids to donate 677 art images to Fresh Artists. To date, 950 large-format reproductions of children’s art have been installed in corporations from Oregon to DC, resulting in the gift of more than $120,000 in art supplies being delivered to severely under-resourced inner city public schools.
