Frequent Flyers® is raising funds to bring you something truly unusual. In fact, we don't know of anyone else mashing up aerial dance, break dance, and psychedelic folk music all in 1 performance / 4 shows: Aerial Street View on Nov. 10, 11, 12 at the Dairy Arts Center in Boulder, CO.
Our Kickstarter will support the artists' fees to bring together these amazing collaborators:
Collaborator 1: Block 1750 / Co-Founder Alex Milewski
Alex is a bboy from Denver Colorado. He started dancing in 2006 and has competed, taught and/or performed around the world. As a founding member of Block 1750, Alex loves sharing his passion for dance, wellness and life with anyone who wants to learn and believes that anyone who puts the time and effort in can become an exquisite dancer.
Alex approached Frequent Flyers' artistic director, Nancy Smith, about working together to merge these 2 dance art forms about a year ago. He is co-creating a duet with Frequent Flyers' company member, Danielle Hendricks using break dance and aerial silk. Alex is also creating some break dance choreography on Frequent Flyers' dancers, as well as bringing a quartet of bboys to the stage for the show.
Collaborator 2: Chimney Choir
Chimney Choir combines folk harmonies, ambient electronics, and swirling textures of rhythm and melody into a style of music that is not easy to define. They began in 2011 with a guitar, banjo, mandolin, and suitcase drum and have since toured the country extensively, recorded and released five recordings, and developed layers of electronics, live looping, and percussion. They still remain fascinated with folk music and traditions while they constantly evolve and experiment - their performances often take on a theatrical quality that has incorporated puppetry, ritual, dance, storytelling, interactive video and even a sci-fi mini-drama.
Chimney Choir is collaborating with all 8 choreographers for the Aerial Street View performances where they will be performing live for all 4 shows.
This is a truly unusual mixture of high-caliber artists and 3 unique art forms together for an evening-length show. You can't see this work anywhere else in the world!
Collaborator 3: Frequent Flyers® Aerial Dance
Frequent Flyers® Aerial Dance is known for its stellar collaborations. Most recently, the company performed with the Boulder Philharmonic at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. to a full-house standing ovation and multiple curtain calls. Other collaborations have included visual artists, Fiske Planetarium, a magician, actors, computer technology, heavy equipment, film and more.
This Kickstarter campaign will make it possible for us to pay the 7 collaborating artists from Block 1750 and Chimney Choir and help support Frequent Flyers' aerial dancers as well.
Risks and challenges
Risk for this project is not raising enough funds through the Kickstarter to afford these amazing human beings and all their time and talent. As a non-profit, we are lean. Very lean. This project is a large undertaking both in concept (never been done before) and number of stunning artists: 8 choreographers, 3 musicians, 15 dancers. 4 Performances.
This is only our 3rd Kickstarter campaign in our 30 year history.
