EARSHOT, an audio play and theatrical sound installation
There are few places where one is as surrounded by humanity and intrigue as in a bar, where strangers have chance encounters, old friends reconnect, drunks philosophize, lovers plot affairs and relationships fall apart. Come explore this world of hidden dramas at EARSHOT, an innovative audio installation and theatrical environment that allows the audience to explore an eerily abandoned bar and eavesdrop on the recorded conversations of absent strangers. Featuring twelve original scripts from eleven different writers, EARSHOT is a paean to the diversity, and frequent absurdity, of the lives and stories around us every day. The objects left behind at the bar provide clues to the identities of the speakers, while curated local music and special drinks keep this empty bar buzzing.
Our team has been working on this show since June 2014. Since then, we have produced 12 original scripts, recorded all dialogues (over 12 hours of content!), and audio edited over half the show. Our music directors have been curating the soundtrack for the show, working with local musicians. We have just started building props with a group of talented artists. Over 50 collaborators are currently working on this project.
With your help, we can cover expenses for
- Sound equipment
- Constructed speaker enclosures
- Crafted props
- Purchased props and clothing items
- Print costs for designed items
- Pay for location scouts, stagehands, and host.
Our collective talent, energy, and hard work has pushed us this far and now we need your contributions to put up our first show at the end of March.
We hope to have a special, intimate show just for our Kickstarter supporters– you will be the first to experience the show and give feedback. Your input will greatly influence how the show develops.

Risks and challenges
We are currently scouting NYC bar locations to host this show, focusing on bars in Brooklyn and Manhattan. We hope to show in multiple locations– ideally bars that have at least 10 tables, do not serve food, and have a music license. Every location has a different bar minimum and event schedule so we are negotiating with bar owners individually. Our aim is to have our first show by the end of March and book dates for April, adding more dates according to demand. However, these logistics will ultimately determine the date and ticket price for the show.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
