Changing the way you store your keys on the go. The Lock Box allows for any size car key, as well as cards to be stored securely.
Some things are better left behind.
We are working on our final adjustments to prototypes. With the help from Kickstarter, we can go into production! In order to produce these in a cost effective manner, the manufacturer requires a minimum order. They have the ability and capacity to successfully produce The Lock Box but are just waiting on our order.
The need for The Lock Box began when working a part-time job at a local boat rental business. Time after time, I witnessed people lose their keys as they slipped out of their pockets when going in and out of the kayaks and pedal boats. After watching half a dozen sets of keys vanish to the bottom of the lake, I knew there had to be a way people could safely leave their keys behind.
After sharing the idea with a few people, it became apparent that this would be useful for almost anyone who is active and wants to prevent losing their keys or credit cards. I began working with a manufacturer of commercial locks who could provide me with what I was looking for.
The first prototype was perfect. My key fit, but the only problem was that as I showed others and tested their keys, it was apparent that newer keys were much too large.
I went back to the drawing board, this time increasing the size of the box so that it was large enough to carry credit cards and ID’s, as well as almost all types of car keys. The door to the box was also attached so it would not be lost.
This is The Lock Box as it sits today, perfectly functional and waiting for funding. We, at Free2Ride, hope we can make your lives easier by providing a peace of mind while you are on the go.
The top shackle used to attach the box to any location is made of cast hardened steel. The standard for most locks. It also has a rubber coating to protect whatever you attach it to.
Can it be cut? If someone had a large enough bolt cutters or a grinder and plenty of time, like anything, eventually they could cut through it. The box however, can not be pried open due to the rim along the opening of the box being inset. This makes is impossible to slide anything into the box.
