What is Future Oak Records?
Think of each of our releases as a ticket to a private art show with a soundtrack. It's more than just music; it's a veritable mobile gatefold gallery. Our projects transcend traditional vinyl releases, offering a rare treasure for those who value handmade craftsmanship and analog music. We are working with amazing musicians to re-establish a sense of worth for music in the digital age.
Additionally, we pair our releases with high quality letterpress packaging, unique artwork, photography, short stories – even comic books. The final product is a stunning hand cut vinyl record with accompanying artwork that has been moved or informed or inspired by the music - a full multimedia experience without the use of a computer.
Who is Future Oak Records?
Future Oak employs a small but talented stable of artists, musicians, writers, and audiophiles who are eager to contribute to a musical revolution. There's no way I could do this alone; even building the courage to pursue this venture took the support of many. I consider myself lucky to have the assistance of so many amazing people by my side, and it is by their generosity that I'm able to offer professional mastering for my artist and unique letterpress packaging to house our releases. Over the course of this project, and even thereafter, you'll get to know the beautiful faces of our Future Oak team through backer-only updates as we walk you through our first production.
Where is Future Oak Records?
While Future Oak is headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, our team is spread far and wide across the country, with strong support in three major cities: KCMO, New York City, and Athens, Georgia. Outside of that, we have contributors in Ohio, Florida, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Oregon, even as far away as Japan. One of the biggest perks of doing this project is we aren't bound by geographical boundaries, which helps us work with talented musicians from all over the world.
When did this happen?
This idea has been floating around in the ether for more years than I care to count - it took the encouragement of my friends and loved ones to squeeze the idea out in a tangible way. While we've been getting things ready for the last couple months, for the most part this is it, now! You're witnessing it, you're a part of it. At the end of this campaign we will be able to set up our equipment and glide through our first release, which should be due out late this summer/early fall. As a backer you'll follow us through all the steps, and be the first to know our release schedule and other events.
How does this happen?
Well, to tell the truth, without your help it doesn't. Although we have been able to form working relationships with professionals in the industry, we find that, outside of the realm of manpower, we are lacking. Like Ben said, we need three things to put out our first release - we need the equipment, we need the training, and we need the materials. Our baseline is a modest $8,800, which will afford us just enough to put out our first release as well as provide you with the fantastic incentives you can only get through this Kickstarter campaign. If we exceed our goal the money will go towards buying additional equipment and securing further releases. We're going to do the greatest of things!
