this the bright white heat of fuzzy follicle
sweat matted, delirious bliss tied
in soft pink ribbon on the hill humming,
heart-ward looking, forward footing, mouth-ward gazing
all a haze
in this amazing
not just f***ing phase thing
barely f***ing shaving
not at all about the f***ing or crazy thing
to get me in or out of trouble, just 100% thinking about that perfect and imperfect, stubbled kiss
an ode, to this.
Hello and thank you for clicking onto my little Kickstarter.
My name is Fraser and i’m hoping to raise £1000 to support the next phase of development for my live solo work Ode.
Ode is a solo piece of theatre which I’ve been developing and self funding for the last 9 months- written and performed by yours truly. It is a collage of poetry, movement and comedy which I describe as a conversation between me now and my 13 year old, very gay but very closeted teenage self.
It’s very awkward, it’s very bizarre and sometimes really quite uncomfortable, it’s very honest and that doesn’t just mean incredibly sad but also whimsy and irreverent and a million percent made with complete love.
And although its very much a personal exploration for me, the feedback I’ve received to date has been so positive in terms of connecting with audiences- and this is so important for me. I want Ode to engage and I want it to entertain so that in a very small way, it adds to the larger, really important conversations about queer people and queer lives- especially in our schools and with children and young people.
So far, baby versions of the work have been performed in a couple of venues across London and on the south coast apart of Pitch Dance Festival… But the goal is to get bigger, and this is where I need a little help….
Your money will go towards the development and rehearsal of Ode into a full length one act show. It will help to pay supporting artists to mentor me with movement and also text. Some money will go towards filming for more online content, also marketing and advertising. And the cherry upon the fabulous cake will be two nights at a London fringe venue in early 2018.
Just because queer things have become all trendy and newsworthy particularly in the last 18 months, does not mean we have to stop talking. It only takes one glance at the front pages of particular rightward leaning news outlets to see how easily progress can be undone and voices silenced. Your generosity, whatever the size will be so enormously appreciated and thanks will be given to literally every human who can help.
So thank you very very much for listening, click below to see some other fun Ode bits, and please share and like and tweet and all other related social bits and bobs. Thank you xxx
Risks and challenges
The venue for the two performances of Ode is still to be completely confirmed, although conversations are at an advanced stage. In any case, worst case scenario may be a slightly delayed date. I'm hoping for late February but early March is also a possible option.
Other than that, the benefit of working solo is all of this is just reliant on me getting in the studio and making the work- and of this I am very confident :D.
