Alex Automatic Is Back!
Alex Automatic is back in “Prefect 63”, an all new stand-alone adventure from series creators James Corcoran & Fraser Campbell!
A companion piece to the main series, the comic comes as a 36 page B&W A5 landscape format book with a colour cover. We’re running this campaign simply to cover printing costs.
In a prequel to the award-winning ALEX AUTOMATIC series, “Prefect 63” tells the story of a faceless Prism technician, assigned to the mysterious Project Animus where he must observe and report on experiments designed to break and control one of their most dangerous “volunteers”, Designate 44470 or “Alex Automatic”.
As he watches Alex fight the mind-altering Prism protocols with every fibre of his being, we learn about Prism’s brutal techniques and uncover the Prefect’s strange, obsessive connection to his subject.
The comic resulted from a fantastic Alex-themed Inktober series by James which inspired me (Fraser) to write an all new story that we hope you’ll enjoy while we complete the first arc of the series proper going into 2019. We have a sensational giant-sized ALEX AUTOMATIC #4 & #5 flipbook planned that will go a long way to answering the questions thrown up so far by issues 1-3!
New to Alex Automatic?
Alex Automatic is about a young agent who has been subjected to mind-altering experiments, leaving him prone to delusionary episodes where he experiences reality as the robot super-spy hero of a non-existent 70s TV show called Alex Automatic. The comic is inspired by Gerry Anderson TV Century 21 shows like Thunderbirds and Joe 90 along with ITC shows like The Prisoner, Danger Man and Department S. We liked the idea of combining the innocent fun and cool production design of these shows with a modern story about alienation, disassociation and the overwhelming mania of modern reality. A story about a broken, dangerous man whose ability to handle the complexities of real life is so damaged, he escapes to a delusionary World of unambiguous good and evil, battling a rogue's gallery of outlandish super-spies, creatures and villains. But reality is always waiting in the wings...
If you enjoy stuff like The Prisoner, Steed & Mrs Peel and The Saint but also love comics like Miracleman, Casanova and The Invisibles, this should be right up your alley. You can catch up with all three issues so far with our Digital catch up level!
As well as the comic of course we have a couple of other very cool reward levels. We've left an interior page blank where you can commission a scene from James in ink and screen tone for a measly £15! Have yourself fighting Prism alongside Alex or anything else you fancy! Check below for a sample of what you can get.
We also have original 337mm x 187mm pages from the story and you can even grab yourself James' "Lodger" homage cover (A4)!

Risks and challenges
Obviously, anyone who backed our previous Alex Automatic campaigns will know we can be trusted to deliver on our pledges.
The comic is finished and with the printers (the wonderful Comics Printing UK) right now and fulfillment should begin hopefully well in advance of our January 2019 target date. Commissions, as usual, will take a bit longer and we've set a date of March 2019 for these. We'd expect to be well ahead of that target too in reality, depending on demand.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
