First Stretch Goal (water- and dust- resistant)

Posted by Frankenspiel Ltd. (Creator)
Hi guys,

You’ve been really great in getting us almost to our goal!

To thank you for this we’re introducing our first stretch goal:

The FS-X with its 50 hour battery life, is ideal both as an indoor or an outdoor speaker.
But as a lot of you have pointed out, we need to define more clearly what the boundaries of use are, especially outdoors, where dust and water protection are crucial.

If you’re outside in the park, you don’t want your speaker to get damaged by droplets of water or rain, especially while having it in party-mode. Or if you’re at the beach and its windy you obviously don’t want sand getting into your speaker. Well you get the picture...

As for now the FS-X has at least equivalence to IPX-1 for both water and dust, and is shockproof under normal use. We are currently looking at ways to make the FS-X more water- and dust- resistant. We’re aiming, as a minimum, for IPX-4. Maybe even try for IPX-5, if possible.

To be clear: we will make sure that FS-X is water- and dust- resistant so it can be used in the bathroom and outside (on the beach, in the park, on a camping site, etc.), but not waterproof i.e. not for use in or under water.

IPX ratings explained:

- IPX-4 water

Offers protection against a splash of water in any direction for at least 5 minutes.

- IPX-4 dust
Offers protection from objects 1mm or larger from entering the casing.

- IPX-5 water

Offers protection when directly subjected to a stream of water (12.5 L) per minute from all directions using a 6.3mm diameter nozzle at a distance of approximately 3m for at least 3 minutes.

-IPX-5 dust;
Offers protection from dust that would be able to interfere with the normal operation of the device.

Stretch Goal
If we reach £46.000 we will add extra water- and dust- protection to at least to a level of IPX-4 but with the aim of reaching level IPX-5.

Subject to reaching the stretch goal, anyone who pledged for one or two speakers will get this for free!

So please help us get to this Stretch Goal, by getting the word out to family, friends and colleagues!

Best regards,

Not because i want to compare but more like encouragement, if the guys at Outdoor Tech can get their speaker to be IPX6 in everything, you guys can too. extend the funding period maybe because ipx1 id very fragile, 4 is the bare minimum if u plan to use it outside your porch. life happens and you don't want a random fat kids cannonball to ruin your speaker of this quality. also the bluetooth upgrade is a must. id rather pay a bit extra and know my stuff is safe then barely use it cuz im worried all the time. sorry if im being annoying :P
