Fastcharger

Hello everyone,

Our team is preparing shipment.

This update is addressed to those 271 backers who have ordered a fastcharger.

Our latest testing on our accessories has shown that there are safety risks with the 4.2A (2 x 2.1 A) fastchargers.

These problems can include one or more of the following:

  • One of the ports becomes inoperable
  • Overheating
  • Danger of electrical shorting

Charging with a normal 0.4/0.5A charger is considerably slower (up to 4 hours per FS-X). For this reason, we would not want to drop this accessory altogether for those of you who opted for fastcharging.

We are in the final phase of preparing shipment so we cannot risk to lose time with a complicated solution such as offering an alternative accessory or a partial refund. We have instead decided to supply a new, tried and tested 2 x 1.0A fastcharger. This will charge 2 FS-Xs in 2 hours. While we ship, we will continue to develop a new fastcharger with our original specifications and offer a replacement to those 271 backers.

Here are two photos of the new, 2 x 1.0A fastcharger:

If there are any further developments we will be sure to share this information with you immediately.

Your next update will be no later than a week from now, Wednesday 2nd December.

All the best,

The Frankenspiel Team

John Dyer, Marsha Tyszler, and 2 more people like this update.

i would much prefer a refund for the Chargers instead. £15 for 2x 1.0a alternatives is far too expensive for me.

Hehehe.. Will I get "a" speaker for my birthday on 11th December... PLeeeeease. OK.. Christmas will also do :)

    3. Frederic Detienne on

      oh wait!! when you say:
      - Overheating
      - Danger of electrical shorting

was it your charger or was it the FX-S ?

    4. Frederic Detienne on

I want a refund for the charger. I do not want the ugly duckling you are proposing. There are now plenty of good looking and working multi port 2.1Amp chargers on the market.

If you can not refund the charger, refund me entirely and I will buy other speakers.

      thank you.

The only thing wrong with the fast charger is that it does not exist, just like the 1000 speakers. about two months ago I was getting an email everyday from Frankenspiel chasing new card details as they wanted to take payment for the extras i had selected, of course I did not give it to them and they were supposedly just a company working on behalf of Frankenspiel so could answer no questions. If you are a gambling man John H. Halpern, M.D. I would happily make a wager with you of £500 that these will not ship to more than 10% of backers. The charger issue is made up, just so they can take photos of something different. As I have said before, if as a company you do not submit your accounts you are find £100 per day they are overdue, why would you let this happen, Answer is because all details submitted to companies house are false.

Here's my 2-cents... they started out the race with a strong pace and plenty of photos/videos/information. They're now in a position where they are trying to hold up their end of the deal and are struggling to do so, but I'm not giving up because they're not the only campaign I'm still waiting for despite plenty of "promised" ship dates. So it's been a while since we've received what we're waiting for; they have already sent out prototypes to real people who gave real reviews of the speakers so we know they're not just yanking our chains, and obviously that means they do exist. Sh!t happens, what matters is whether they come through for us in the end. Waiting sucks but they're called estimated shipping dates for a reason, because Kickstarter is not known for guaranteed shipping dates. Me, I'm gonna keep waiting; the rest of you can do as you like.

Hi Tom- funny stuff but I definitely did NOT click "like" on this update and am mighty pissed at winding up being at times an apologist for these "chowda head" creators (aka "chowder-head" - a New England slang insult suggesting no intelligence because your skull is like a bread bowl for holding clam chowder soup).

The burn out factor is definitely taking its toll. Brilliant BSL100 hasn't posted in a while because there really is nothing technical to have him sink his teeth into and while Adrian Joss has done an admirable job of railing against all of us stuck in this speaker Absurdistan... I guess Darius has had to take a break or has finally stroked out because THIS IS TORTURE of us all. And I'm writing this as the only backer with an actual set of prototype FS-Xs! We are 1.5 YEARS now post-campaign end. We keep saying we want and like the truth so we can be great backers and support this project and instead we are given details that could just get printed onto a fortune cookie message with room to spare.

Not sure if this is of any interest to anyone, but here are some particulars of Frankenspiel and its director. It would appear that they are yet to film a tax return!!! https://www.endole.co.uk/company/08852875/frankenspiel-limited

Ugh, if they can fuck up something as simple as a charger, i hate to think what the FSX might do..... Maybe burn down your house during charging ?
      ....
      ....
      Anyway, still laughing at @Gjerdem 's comment :-D :-D :-D :-D
      ....
oh.... wait.... i know something great !!!!
      .....
This whole "delayed" FSX thing would be a GREAT subject for one of Cyanide & Happiness' depressing comic week !!!!

      FINALLY!

I've worked out how to recoup my investment!

I'm going to publish a book of the sales pitch, followed by 2,116 pages of disappointed comments from former fans of frankenspiel and/or kickstarter.

I might dedicate it to John H. Halpern, M.D. and whoever keeps clicking like, but not made my mind up yet..

Okay, I don't want this plug since it's a UK plug, I want a partial refund. Thank you... ohh wait, you said you can't because it's too complicated... hmmm then I'd take the full refund. Should be easier I guess. That means someone else can get my units and you have a spare pair for the pre-orders or some other backer. Isn't that great and also simple?

    14. Crispin

@Creator: The plug on the charger looks like a UK plug, and there's no obvious way to slide it on/off (though I'm not familiar enough with the design to say for sure). Is this just an example of the new fastchargerr or will all international backers br getting a fastcharger with UK plug?

    15. Gustav Öst on

Well you did put up photos now...
Just not photos anyone cares about. Post pictures of the speakers (in mass) FFS!
I chose some accessories when I backed the project. Don't remember what they were and I don't care. Just ship the speakers. Thats the ONLY thing that should take up your time right now.

Update of my last week comment:

@Frankenspiel Please provide some pictures of the 1000 units that you supposedly finished updating and for which you have been "preparing shipment" for weeks.

Please admit there has been a slippage in the delivery dates. After saying there wouldn't be any slippage, not talking about it is not a solution. Just give us the most realistic (not the most hopeful) delivery date you have now.

Can you confirm in a straightforward way that you have updated a 1000 units which are ready to be send ?

Any news on the other 1000 units you were planning to update ?

@John, you can use your own 2.1 amp charger if you own one. They originally decided to develop their own fast charger for those of us who don't have one, and I think it was supposed to have the FS branding and such. I can't confirm for certain, but they originally said that if you owned your own 2.1 amp charger, it would be fine to use. I think they said long ago that they could only guarantee the fastest possible charging with their own developed charger, but your 2.1 amp would certainly be faster than 0.5 even if it's not quite as fast as the FS version. That's the way I interpreted it long ago when they offered their own charger for sale. So I don't think you have reason to worry that you'll short the speakers with the charger you've been using.

WRONG. I'm ecstatic with this. In fact, if there was a button for 'I f***ing LOVE this' I'd press it. Sadly there isnt, so I just have to make do with 'like'. I'll tell you my top four reasons why I like this update:
      1) Honesty. They've put facts plainly and simply there for us to see - the fast charger doesn't work so we are sending you a crap one instead. And we don't give a s**t what you think about it, so we won't give you any kind of choice.
      2) Integrity. They've got the balls to come out and say 'look guys, our first batch ship date from the warehouse to you is 25th to 30th November. Despite slippage, this hasn't changed. Expect your speakers in the next three days'. They're pinnacles of society in that respect. And yes - I'm assuming this is the case due to total lack of information otherwise.
      3) Transparency. Hey guys, all you want is photos of stuff. So here you go - it's my iPhone charger with a bit of Photoshopping to duplicate the USB port. We can't give you photos of the speakers because they're all in boxes shipping from the warehouse to you, like we said in our previous updates and haven't corrected yet. Plus, we are transparent because WE DONT EXIST.

I'm fed up. Every wednesday the same story, no photos, only excuses. Even in case I get the FSX with me, this campaign makes me think about not funding another project in Kickstarter.

As lot of backers have said, we can be patient, but the @creator should provide at least the proofs that were requested. Photos, please, and a new schedule for shipment.

      See you all next week.

Who is it that is clicking like every bloody week? I guarantee that no-one is happy with this.

    22. Michael Carr on

I'm officially done with this campaign. I kept pretty quiet but it's a complete and utter joke. Preparing shipment for weeks / no photos. If they had all the parts they would show them like many other campaigns do. This will be my second scam on Kickstarter.

      Superbacker

I have a standard electric wall outlet that also has two USB ports that fast charge at 2.1 amps. I've been using that to charge the pair of prototype FS-X speakers and it does so without issue. However, is this NOT recommended? Might it cause a problem to speakers should we use our own 2.1 amp charging device like this? What about charging from a backup battery that has a 2.1amp output option? In other words are you saying don't charge faster than at 1amp or only that your attempts at a 2.1 fast charging adapter is defective?
Finally, the lack of photos of lots of speakers or of production is a huge letdown. A zillion other campaigns at Kickstarter do this... And it of crucial importance that you do the same. You've got to present a new timeline for delivery, too...

    24. Ben Hodgson on

Next Wednesday: The team are busy preparing shipment. Unfortunately we have found an issue with the cardboard boxes as the speakers don't fit inside. We are instead going to put some rocks in the boxes and ship those while we try and work out how to ship the speakers.

Just to offer my technical input and to save a further 3 - 4 weeks "testing"... that charger doesn't have a cable. Fingers crossed me pointing that out may save us a month or two

So basically, still no photos despite many many MANY requests of proof. You're still preparing shippment in what must be week 7 to 8 and... the only news this week is that actually you've only just tested the charger and found it to be crap.

      You couldn't make this up
