Final Production Specs

Posted by Frankenspiel Ltd. (Creator)

Hi everyone,

Chia has completed final tuning of the FS-X and we’re pleased to report that he has released the final FS-X hardware specs for production.

Remember despite this minor slippage with the final specs, we are still on target with the rest of our timeline. As we’ve said before, we had already extended our timeline projections to counteract any possibility of unforeseen slippage.

Hardware Specs Highlights

AMP  21.7 Volts @ 2.5 AMP (= 54.25 Watt)

Max SPL Mono 104 dB Stereo 107 dB (ITU-R 468)

Freq range 60 Hz - 20 kHz*

Battery 2800 mAh

Fastcharge @ 2.1A 100% in < 60 mins (max charge 3.0 A)

Playtime 50 hours @ 70 dB**

* tuned to provide enough bass response.

** unlike with traditional, conventional AMPs, the FS-X’s power varies second-to-second (actually milliseconds), and the type of music being played will affect playtime. Playing Electric House will diminish playtime, jazz will increase playtime.

Notice that we are using a 2800 mAh battery, rather than a 3400. This is because we made advances in our power management compared to a while back when we wrote our story. Now, it’s clear that a 3400 mAh battery is nothing other than excessive. Not to mention it’s heavier and it costs more. It also takes up more room, making installation tricky and causes a higher risk of overheating. The 2800mAh battery (with the right electronics) can achieve what we needed and more.

To be absolutely clear, here’s a comparison of the old tech specs from our story page on Kickstarter with our new tech specs. You’ll find that very little has changed and in fact we have only exceeded our goals.

Old tech specs

New tech specs (all changes in bold)

Remember, despite these improvements, our main goal over these recent months has been to ensure stability and reliability.

Here’s an updated timeline with our projections.

Your next update will be no later than 2 weeks from now, Thursday 19th March 2015.

All the best,

The Frankenspiel Team

Hi guys. I'm afraid I can no longer be a backer of your product as need to pay for other personal essentials that have now been raised recently and I'd like a refund of what I pledged please. Thank you.

So we are 8 months behind schedule and now you release new specs which are the same as a year ago and people are happy about it? Damn it's a strange world!

@Niek, I had a portable speaker. Playing as loud as I dared indoors (estimated around 70% volume) it played for over 5 hours, after which I measured the remaining battery level to be about half full. I then recharged my batteries and took it outdoors where it played for about 30 minutes before the batteries were dead. This is an utterly unscientific anecdote, but it shows that adding even a little bit of volume decreases the play time drastically. In my case 20 times.

This may have been answered before, so if so apologies…
What's the delay like on the wireless connection? Will it keep up with watching a video for example on my laptop, or will the audio be likely to slip out of sync?
Looking forward to getting my hands on these!

Can't wait to receive the final product!... Side-question.. If putting the speaker on the loudest setting, playing electric house (as you said in the update), how many hours of playtime do we have with the current battery?

Finally some good news, let's hope there are no more delays now =)
