About

Runika and the Six-sided Spellbooks is a puzzle-solving dice-rolling game of wits and wizardry. Play as Runika and her friends as you collect elemental dice, solve puzzles and cast spells!

  •  Winning depends on strategy, not luck. Dice rolls give you interesting choices, rather than punishing you. Clever use of your dice will determine whether you win or not.
  •  Cool rotating boards and spatial puzzles. Create runes on a 4x4 spell grid surrounded by a rotating elemental disk. Use the disk to correctly position your elemental dice and match the patterns on the rune cards to earn points and powers.
  •  Interaction without player hate. Compete for the favour of your professors and to be the first to solve each rune. Player interaction comes from drafting the right dice and occupying worker-placement slots instead of attacking your friends.

* Due to the unreliable nature of some postal systems, I had to increase shipping to Brazil, Argentina and Chile. I'm really sorry about this. :(

Or let Meeple University lead you through the game (using Lucidity dice as prototypes):

Whether you'd like to try the game before you back, or you've backed Day One and can't wait for Runika to be delivered, we've put together a couple ways for you to play right now. (And in the meantime, don't forget to hit the “Remind Me” button up top so you don't forget about us, or pledge for $1 so that you can get all of our updates!)

To play Runika right now, you can use:

  •  Tabletopia: By clicking here, you can play in your browser with your friends, totally free. You don't even need to sign up!
  •  Lucidity: Six-sided Nightmares: You can use the dice from our last game, Lucidity, to play a print-and-play version of Runika here. Runika's final dice will have different symbols, but this print-and-play allows you to use the ones from Lucidity in their place. Or use this set and about 480 stickers to make your own dice!
  •  Substituting cards for dice: The print-and-play here allows you to use generic pipped dice to play. It takes up a lot of table space because it replaces 12mm dice with 68mm cards, but it should give you a good sense for the gameplay.

All of the costings we've done for Runika are based on a minimum manufacture of 1000 games, with a quality that we are still happy with. As we get more backers and order more copies though, the cost-per-unit goes down, which allows us to invest that money back into the game.

Once we are halfway funded, I will be running an online narrative for backers to vote on. This story will give you the chance to decide the fate of Runika and her friends, and perhaps even unlock some special stretch goals as we go.

To begin with the prologue, click here. Or read on for the current story...

As the campaign goes on, the choices you vote on in the story will determine the stretch goals we work towards.

The first few will be the standard ones you see on board game projects (including upgrading components and the box) but, in the meantime, if you have any ideas for fun stretch goals or expansions, please write them in the comments section of this campaign. (In my previous campaign, almost all of the deluxe edition content was suggested by backers.)

 Social Media Avatars

You can use these banners on Kickstarter, Instagram, Facebook or Twitter to show your support for Runika. They have been designed to fit within a cropped circle (eg on Kickstarter and Instagram).

To use one on Kickstarter, click on it to go to the enlarged file, right click to save that image to your computer, click on the bubble in the top right corner of your Kickstarter page and go to Settings > Edit profile. You can upload the avatar to there from your computer (look under "Picture").

Risks and challenges

This is my second campaign, and so while some of the risks and challenges are the same, I am better informed this time around!

"Why is this in AUD?":

As I live in Australia, my campaigns must use Australian dollars (AUD). You might know it better as "monopoly money". Exchange rates are always going up and down, and I have added a buffer to accommodate for currency fluctuations over the course of the campaign. After the campaign concludes, I will convert the AUD to the various currencies they need to be (USD and GBP mostly). That should cover any further risk, short of Australia becoming a dystopic, Mad Maxian world and abandoning plastic money in favour of gasoline and water.

Shipping:

Things can always happen: ships sink or disappear completely; packages get stuck in customs, only to wash up on lost islands (or in purgatory?) years later; and variations in seasonal freight pricing can lead to drastic increases in shipping costs. I will be ordering excess stock in order to cover lost packages, and there is a buffer in the goal for any increases in shipping.

A note on shipping to certain countries:

While I have made every effort in the past to make sure every backer got their game, sometimes it doesn't happen and I've needed to refund a pledge. I've found this to be the case in countries such as Argentina and Brazil. Because I lost so much money posting to South America in the last campaign, I have to increase the shipping costs to these countries. This also does not cover import tariffs, which are your responsibility, sorry! While I feel terrible to have to do this, I'm just one person and I can't afford to cover the local tariffs that exist in some countries, or account for packages going missing in dodgy postal systems. Rather than exclude shipping to these countries, I've left it available, but with shipping rates reflecting the reality of the situation. I am truly sorry about this.
