UPDATE 7/02: We have added Lighthouse integration (the Lighthouse sensor is now integrated into the FOVE headset!), but note that Valve's Lighthouse Base Station and any additional controllers are NOT included with FOVE Pre-Orders and will be sold separately.
UPDATE 6/16: You want Lighthouse! We want Lighthouse! We’ve already begun speaking with Valve to explore the possibilities. Today, we’d like to announce our most exciting stretch goal yet. At $700k raised, we'll pursue support of Lighthouse, the most accurate VR positional tracking system on the market, and bring native support for OpenVR.

Eye Play the Piano is a collaborative project between the University of Tsukuba’s Special Needs Education School for the Physically Challenged and FOVE. FOVE recognizes eye movement and blinks to trigger the selected chord, which is then conveyed to the piano.
How FOVE Works: Eye Tracking
FOVE enables eye-tracking by incorporating custom small form-factor infrared sensors inside the headset. These sensors bounce light off the retina to register how the eyes are angled. Our unique algorithms can calculate the parallax between the eyes to track and measure depth-of-field focus.

Our team combines experts in gaming, virtual reality, and top hardware technologies. Together, we dream to bring true expressive power to the virtual world.
Lochlainn is an expert in facial recognition technology, who has top-notch skills in image processing and mathematical solutions. Before FOVE, he worked at an Australian startup to develop algorithms for facial recognition software used by surveillance cameras at major airports. A natural tinkerer who taught himself rapid prototyping, FOVE combines his passions for eye-tracking algorithms and hardware design into one seamless package.

Risks and challenges
The complexity of manufacturing a product at this caliber takes great effort and precision. FOVE began from the University of Tokyo’s academic collaboration facility in Tokyo, Japan, and development is being carried out at one of Japan’s top hardware laboratories.
We are committed to incorporating the latest VR technology, with cooperation from Asian hardware manufacturers such as Toshiba and Samsung.
Delays can occur at any stage in the process: from sourcing components to factory test runs, and manufacturing runs. Even shipping FOVE to your doorstep in one piece will take great care and thought.
Keep in mind that we are targeting to start shipping in early 2016: We can expect that not everyone, even entire countries, will not receive FOVE at the exact same time. We'll ask for your patience and offer all the support we can.
We want to commit to the Spring 2016 timeline because we are confident that we've found trustworthy manufacturers in Japan and have worked with them to create working models that are sleek, reliable, and safe to use.
We will be in communication with you every step of the way and alert you to any unexpected challenges. We'll even give you behind-the-scenes looks at what it's like to bring this technology to life. You'll be more than glad you became a part of this.
