Did someone say Lighthouse? Unlock our $700k stretch goal!
Dear Backers,
Today, we’d like to announce our most exciting stretch goal yet. At $700k raised, we'll pursue support of Lighthouse, the most accurate VR positional tracking system on the market, and bring native support for OpenVR.
You want Lighthouse! We want Lighthouse! We’ve already begun speaking with Valve to explore the possibilities. From our AMA on Reddit, to the comments on our Kickstarter, we’ve seen the demand for Lighthouse integration with FOVE explode, and it brings us great pleasure to reveal our plans to integrate with SteamVR.
If supported, The Lighthouse base stations and any additional controllers will be sold separately from the Kickstarter bundle.
With the integration of Lighthouse and the support of OpenVR, the potential for incredible virtual reality content is limitless! Can you imagine the possibilities?
Yuka Kojima, CEO and co-founder at FOVE, has this to say on the subject:
“Both of our companies are very excited about the applications of eye-tracking in VR and the support for SteamVR will bring a wealth of content to FOVE. We have strong confidence that FOVE can and will deliver a revolutionary experience in VR.”
Are you with us?
Spread the word and help make FOVE Lighthouse integration a reality. Up your pledge to help us reach our goal, then tell the world. It’s coming.

PS. Want Lighthouse but don’t know how to increase your pledge? Here’s how to increase your Kickstarter pledge: Visit the FOVE project page and click the blue “Manage" button that appears next to your pledge amount. Enter a new amount in the pledge amount box. Note that you are not adding to your existing pledge; the amount you enter will be the total amount collected if the project is successfully funded.

@Jim: Yes sure. I'm a patient man :)

I have to admit, I wasn't too excited about the other stretch goals (but also didn't make suggestions ... and Advanced Gaze Analysis does indeed sound quite useful) - but this one is totally awesome. I'd agree that the FOVE has to have Lighthouse and SteamVR/OpenVR support. This could actually make it a very serious competitor to the HTC Vive if you get the display right.
Very exciting times indeed - good luck!!!

@Suhaib, @Andreas, @Jim - We are very adamant about the Valve Lighthouse integration, and have pursued conversations with Valve directly. Like @Jim said, the best thing you can do is to get more friends to join us and keep spreading the word. If all of you share just once, we can reach this next goal just as easily. Just click on those sharing links above!

@Andreas Hopefully you will wait for the campaign to get a good deal closer to the end before making such a decision. Such a thing could very easily become a self-fulfilling prophecy. ;)

Yes, OpenVR is much more important than any of the other stretch goals. In fact, I'm considering cancelling my pledge if FOVE won't support OpenVR, since then it'd just be a very expensive paperweight except for that one demo project you made yourself.
Third party support is essential, and unless you plan to invest more money into marketing and developer support than Facebook, Steam and Microsoft, you won't be the main target hardware developers will write their games and apps for.

Although I understand Lighthouse support being a stretch goal, OpenVR support should be an essential and integral part of the MAIN goal and should not be overlooked.
With competitors like the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and now StarVR, not supporting OpenVR from the get go would severely hinder developer adoption.

Great point, Sean! Yes, we're committed to keeping FOVE open and as accessible as possible!

As long as Steam integration doesn't mean locking content developers into going through Steam to release titles and Fove remains an open platform this sounds very promising! :)
