JOEY MOLLAND of BADFINGER is in the studio recording a brand new rock album with producer MARK HUDSON!
Pre-order it here through KICKSTARTER!
Hello, everyone! Joey Molland here. First off, thank you for coming to my Kickstarter page. It means a lot to me to know I have such wonderful fans that value my music and the legacy of BADFINGER.
I’m excited to tell you about my upcoming release and get YOU involved in the project!
I am in the process of recording a new album. It’s being produced by Grammy Award-winning songwriter/producer Mark Hudson (Ringo, Ozzy, Aerosmith, etc.) and mixed by Grammy-winning audio engineer Mario J. McNulty (Bowie, Prince, Julian Lennon) in New York. We’ve got some great guest musicians contributing to the album as well.
I’ve wanted to make this album for several years now. The songs are solid and quite catchy – many harken back to that power pop/rock sound I began my career with. All the songs needed were the right producer to give them a bit of polish, and that’s where Mark Hudson stepped in to do his magic.
So far the rough tracks are sounding fantastic, if I do say so myself! The hooks, the harmonies and the musicianship... Expect to hear fresh catchy rock songs, with many songs reminiscent of Badfinger’s sound.
Mark and I are so excited to finish this release and have YOU be a part of it!
Check out all the different ways you can help take part in the completion of this record. I’ve put together not only interesting merchandise (like guitars used on the recordings, limited edition T-shirts, and one-of-a-kind artwork), but also some unique opportunities to be had by pledgers. How about a CD release party at the recording studio in Brooklyn with me, Mark, Mario, and some fellow-pledgers? Or maybe you want to sing background vocals on a track, or meet me for coffee. There’s more! Check out all the cool rewards available to you for pledging.
All pledges include the digital download of the album as soon as it is completed. When you pledge, you'll also get exclusive behind-the-scenes access -- video messages from us, audio samples, and other fun updates as we work toward completing the album...
But for this to be a success, I need as much of your assistance as possible...
HOW YOU CAN HELP
1) Find a fun reward and pledge to the campaign today! Momentum is everything and I would love to kick this off with a BANG. If the fine folks at Kickstarter take notice they just may add it to the list of featured projects!
2) Tell people! Spread the word any way you can -- through social media, email, text messaging, snail mail, carrier pigeons -- whatever! Promotion is key!
So THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Thanks in advance for making this album happen and sharing my project with as many of your friends as possible. I couldn’t do it without you.
MORE ON JOEY MOLLAND, BADFINGER, AND MARK HUDSON:
One of the original signings to the Beatles’ Apple Records label, Badfinger had their first hit single with a Paul McCartney penned song, "Come and Get It", which went to #7 in the U.S. charts. Badfinger followed this with their own compositions "No Matter What", "Day After Day" (produced by George Harrison), and "Baby Blue", which went to #8, #4 and #14, respectively. During this time American singer Harry Nilsson placed Badfinger's song "Without You" on top of the charts, and Mariah Carey did the same in 1994. Badfinger's own version of "Without You" was featured in Season 2 of the hit television show This Is Us, which helped introduce the band's music to a brand new younger generation of fans.
The timeless quality of Badfinger songs is evident, as the songs continue to be used in many other contemporary TV and film soundtracks. The song "No Matter What" was featured in the hit films Horrible Bosses 2 and in the HBO show Divorce. "Baby Blue" was featured in the Breaking Bad TV show finale, and "Day After Day" is currently featured in the movie Annabelle Comes Home, playing in theaters now. Their inclusion on these and other soundtracks has helped the band garner even more new fans.
VH1 produced a "Behind The Music" documentary about the band, and their songs continue to be heard on classic rock as well as oldies radio stations.
Joey Molland and members of Badfinger played on John Lennon's Imagine album, on George Harrison’s Grammy-winning album All Things Must Pass, and joined George Harrison for the Concert For Bangladesh.
Joey left Badfinger in 1974. In subsequent years he reunited and toured with former members of Badfinger, produced albums for others, and recorded and produced several of his own solo albums.
As a member of Badfinger’s classic lineup, Joey Molland continues the band’s unforgettable legacy. In 2018 Joey successfully toured the U.S. with a full electric band performing the album “Straight Up,” as well as other Badfinger hits. He continues to record and perform worldwide. In the fall of 2019 Joey will be hitting the road with Todd Rundgren, Christopher Cross, Mickey Dolenz of The Monkees, and Jasen Scheff of Chicago for a very special anniversary show that pays tribute to the Beatles' "White Album" which turned 50 last year.
WHY KICKSTARTER? ...ANOTHER MESSAGE FROM JOEY:
Someone asked me why I decided to launch a Kickstarter campaign for my upcoming release. I’d like to address that here.
As many of you know, the music industry has changed. Labels are dying, record stores are dead and everyone streams. But streaming platforms pay less than a penny per stream. (A millions stream a year equals around $13 per day!) How can any independent artist stay alive and make a living in today’s music business? How can an artist get his music out to his fans?
Kickstarter provides a way. Kickstarter provides me with a direct connection to music fans – people who actually care about my music, who truly believe in me and want to see me continue to make art. It’s a very meaningful and close community. And the fans (not a label) are the exact audience I make music for. It’s why I do what I do.
Generally speaking, Kickstarter works pretty simply. Instead of having to lay out all of the costs up front to fund a record and then worry if they will be recouped later based on future sales, the artist launches a pre-sale before the record is made. If there isn’t enough demand and the funding goal is not reached, all the people who backed the project get their money back and the record does not get made.
However, if the campaign is successful, the artist can make the record without having to worry about the initial costs or if they have to sell enough to make it back.
This is HUGE. The up-front costs associated with making a record are high – production, engineering, manufacturing… Pre-purchasing a record or any of the extra rewards through a campaign like this provides the biggest bang for the buck in terms of what the artist gets to keep. So your contribution here has a bigger impact than nearly any other way of buying or streaming music.
You are not just getting something you enjoy (new music), you are protecting the survival and creativity of those who make it! And that includes ME! So for that, I thank you!
I hope you take a look at my Kickstarter campaign and find a reward that is pleasing to you. Remember, all pledgers will get exclusive updates from us as to how things are coming along! Please join the ride with us. It’s sure to be a blast! In fact, it already is...

Risks and challenges
No risk on finishing, producing and distributing the CD if we meet our funding goal. We will then have the money to pay the engineer, producer, CD fulfillment house, etc. and can finally finish this awesome record!! We are ready to go right now and schedule the studio time to finish up!
The only challenge might stem from the rewards. When the project is successfully funded, we can't know specifically the CD release date, but we will have a decent idea and keep you posted on our progress. Also scheduling some of the rewards that are "experiences" might be a challenge, as we will have to coordinate Joey and Mark's schedules with yours. But these experiences WILL happen! To play it safe, we are making the delivery timeline between the first and second quarter of 2020, but believe things will happen sooner.
There is no way this album will not be recorded and released upon funding, pending some sort of unimaginable catastrophe!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
