About

Though there is a lot more to the story, very brief and in a nutshell...Lenormand cards are rooted from a 32 card piquet of German fortune telling playing cards published by Duremouri in 1793.

Sometime around 1798, das Spiel der Hoffnung "The Game of Hope" was created by German businessman and designer, Johann Kaspar Hechtel. A parlour game that resembles a cross between our modern "Chutes and Ladders" and "The Game of Life" which contained 36 cards and could also be used for it's original intention, divination. The game was later renamed after famous French fortune-teller, Marie Anne Adelaide Lenormand shortly after her passing in June of 1843.

The pack of cards numbered 1-36 with images and playing card insets is still being used as a divination tool today. The Lenormand cards have remained popular abroad since their creation and have recently been gaining popularity in the US.

Each ForTheSeekers Lenormand deck contains 38 cards. ~ A title card, the standard cards numbered 1-36 and a bonus card featured as number "0"

The colorful illustrations bleed off the edge of the card with no border and the black and white playing card insets burst off the card and complement the overall design.

A list of keywords is included and as a special treat we've painstakingly translated the original instructions to "The Game of Hope" written in old German script to English and have included them with each full size deck as well. The original document from 1798 currently resides at The British Museum.

The parlour game, das Spiel der Hofnung (The Game of Hope) is played using a pair of dice and placement markers. All 36 cards are laid out in order, 1-36 in a 6x6 square and the players roll the dice to advance along the cards or retreat, depending on what card you land on.

In the spirit of the history behind the Lenormand cards we've created custom fiery orange dice for the luck of the game....the game of hope.

Set comes with 2 matching ForTheSeekers butterfly dice and a small black velour drawstring bag for safe keeping.

Of the spreads used to read the Lenormand cards, the largest and most informative is the Grande Tableau. This spread requires all 36 cards and can take up quite a bit of space.

If you're traveling or don't have much space, these mini decks will be a very valuable companion to the full size deck.

Tip: While reading the Grande Tableau with houses, the full size deck can be laid down in order 1-36 as the houses and the mini deck can be shuffled and dealt on top as the cards being read.

Reading Lenormand cards is nothing like reading tarot cards. The Lenormand system is fairly easy to use and amazingly accurate. With a little time and practice you'll be reading the Lenormand system and LOVING it.

The ForTheSeekers Lenormand only includes keywords (basic meanings) for each card but there are many online resources and communities to aid in learning this unique system. There are also some wonderfully written books just now becoming available in English.
