Formula Fusion is a near-future anti-gravity racing game that brings fast, frantic, adrenaline-fuelled racing together with the raw sound of a thumping dance soundtrack and psychedelic visual effects. The year is 2075. The events of the Great Energy War of 2025 still resonate in the new capital, New York City. A ravaged wasteland now fringes the great New York metropolis, Time's Square is under water, and riots, starvation and corruption are rampant in the city. Redevelopment on a vast scale has all but papered over the cracks, with many districts almost unrecognizable. The division between rich and poor is the greatest it has ever been: Favela-style slums and make-shift buildings form poverty-stricken rings around the affluent commercial districts and neon neighbourhoods of New York City.
After the global energy reserves were emptied in 2031 following an all-out-war that tore apart the world, scientists endeavoured to find an alternative form of energy. The field of anti-gravity quantum levitation excelled, surpassing all other alternatives and quickly gained momentum both industrially and commercially. The automotive industry blossomed once again, and petroleum-based cars were quickly replaced with anti-gravity vehicles and large suspended superconductor tracks were built above the city. Vehicles were then suspended within artificially created gravity fields above superconductor highways. Along with general transportation, this technology became embedded in the remnants of motorsport racing and exploded in popularity: what was once known as Formula 1 evolved to become the Formula Fusion W.A.R Leagues.

The physical geometry of your craft changes, but the underlying technology will remain. The final class unlocked - ExperimentalTECH - representing the pinnacle craft of each research institute and demonstrating excellence in engineering, are capable of travelling at speeds well beyond the speed of sound and are regarded as scientific breakthroughs.

Shipping and Handling
No additional S/H is required for backers in the UK. Non-UK backers should pledge £5 (approx $7.44) for Europe or £10 (approx $14.88) for rest of the world.
The survey will be sent out approximately two weeks after the campaign has finished. It can take between 2-4 weeks to process the information gained during this period, and a further 1-2 weeks to send out PayPal invoices, so please be patient with us during this time.
With the high cost of development - particularly console and premium content, unless you are a very established studio, publishers tend to look at safer in-house options. If it doesn't scream AAA or fit into a ready-made mould, it's very hard to get the support. We are a new and relatively unknown company but our veterans have over 50 years’ experience in the game industry – credited on shipped titles such as Grand Theft Auto, WipEout, Auto Club Revolution, the Colin McRae series, Carmageddon and Midnight Club. Racing games are at our heart. What we are hoping to do, with your help, is to take the pure high-speed racing aspect of AG juggernauts such as WipEout and F-Zero, and add in a whole new boat-load of features that you were gagging for back then, for an up-to-date treatment of this classic genre! The game will represent not only a next generation reboot of the classic AG Racing genre, but also a drive to bring back the core elements from the most successful and cherished AG racing titles ever made.
We believe that past AG offerings only took the concept so far and ended up become a little tired by the end, but don't think we want to hack away at the genre it with a sledgehammer - that's not the goal. We want to use our experience and familiarity with the Wipeout brand and other racers to do what we felt was missing in the original titles. And we want to engage the community (YOU) to help create the perfect balance. We're aiming for Formula Fusion to stand on its own merit.
After deliberating many times with traditional publishers, investors, attempting to acquire loans and fighting tooth-and-nail to keep our IP, we decided to attempt to make this dream come true by ourselves - through our sheer determination, hard work, the sweat of our brows and the support of our amazing community. Unfortunately, the reality of that is that money doesn't grow on trees, so whilst being independent gives us the opportunity to truly make the game that we envision, we need your support more than ever to make Formula Fusion a reality. We need your help!
Your support determines whether or not Formula Fusion reaches its full potential. The more money raised, the more money we can invest directly back into development and production, and the better the player experience! We want Formula Fusion to be a product of our community - fine-tuned, moulded and sculpted to perfection by our players, and that means getting you involved as early as possible. Kickstarter gives us a medium to both receive and give back to our supporters right from the starting line. We are looking to secure funding to launch our dreams as developers for this once very popular and iconic genre and we want you all on-board along the way.
We have a clear vision of where we want this project to go and a boat-load of talent to back it up!
We have the determination to do WHATEVER it takes to get this done - even guerrilla style bedroom development, if it's needed, and racing games are at the heart of our team. A real winning combination!
It's no great secret that we are prepared to see this through to the end - whatever the personal cost and commitment (our pockets are now empty), and most of us have worked for free so far. As a minimum guarentee, we are prepared to work on reduced wages - as a commitment to you, until we can leverage this commercially in order to sustain and grow a premium studio with premium talent.
The low target of £35,000 is a statement to our determination and commitment to make this succeed. £35,000 represents a base line plan to start gathering momentum - this will allow us to create the "base game", which will feature eight tracks created by the WipEout 3 track team and an early-access version featuring one fully developed track. After this, with each "stretch goal" we hit, we will commit to fully developing those specific features outlined in each stretch by the dates given underneath, BUT... let us be clear on this: the plan isn't to completely get rid of these features if we DON'T hit our stretches, but rather we would need to reassess how we are going approach those targets and reschedule accordingly. The truth is though - nobody wants to work guerilla-style, snatching development time when possible, working remotely and calling in favours; we have been through all that and now we need to push forward with a feasible plan.
£35,000 will see the development staff being paid a low cost salary whilst the directors of the company continue to work for free. It will also enable us to bring in a couple of contract workers to continue with the great work we have done so far. In addition, it will protect us for a couple of months from the financial pressures of running a business, with all the usual costs associated with that. It will also allow us to go through Greenlight on Steam and to release a stable and commercially ready Early Access version of one track. We aren't talking about the usual stuck-in-alpha-never-finished kind of games that are becoming more common on Early Access - ours will be a statement of where we want to take the game, a version you can play and get a good feel of the finished product. Finally, £35,000 will allow us to effectively sell 'pre-orders' in accordance to the build plan right up to release in March 2016. It will be an extension of the Test Pilot Program we already have - but be made available without the exclusive content we have already promised to early TPP adopters. This money will be pumped directly back into the continued development of the game and all it's versions.
Not only are you helping to fund development, but you'll also have a voice in how the game is made and what features we implement. We will have TPP and Kickstarter backer-exclusive forums set-up where you can discuss your ideas and thoughts with other fans but more details to come on this as we push forward.
Risks and challenges
The project fails to meet it’s target
We have done our homework and we understand the risks. If we fail to meet our target we will have to re-evaluate our ambitions on how to sustain a studio from this. We will still be committed to getting this done but it will have to become more of a hobby rather than a business and the deadlines will have to be revised.
We fail to get Greenlight through steam
Although we feel that this is highly unlikely, considering the stats we have from the concept submission we have on STEAM right now (we are #30 out of 4200 concepts), if we fail to go through Greenlight and the STEAM community suddenly all vote NO (we currently have 1% so far) – then we will sell the game through our website and explore all other methods, including a boxed release.
Synchronous Multiplayer and Matchmaking
We have chosen UR4 as our development environment because it’s architecture is very much created around multiplayer experiences. We have also teamed up with ESL to ensure we have the very best technology available to support online play.
Unrealistic targets and slippage
We have chosen to develop this game because we understand the development requirements. We have already done a great deal of preparation work to ensure we have a plan in place to deliver according to the deadlines we have set ourselves. We have experience of Wipeout and the things that went wrong and right during development – this coupled with our long history of commercial releases means we have a very solid plan.
Console stretch goals
There is always a risk of not gaining acceptance through the submission process for Microsoft or Sony, and one of the first steps is to become an approved developer. But we will pursue all options available to us to allow us to reach out to as many platforms as possible. We are going to build up the framework for the game around steam at the moment and we will build the feature set around that too – there may be a few slight adjustments based on platform restrictions but we will make sure we remain faithful to the core concept.
Competition in the market place
Of course there are a few AG Racing Games out there and it’s a great family to be amongst – but there can be only ‘one’ spiritual successor to wipeout and we think we can offer that. However - we are developing ‘OUR’ own version of the genre and as such we may make a few changes; our core talent comes from what we regard as the pivotal versions; Wipeout 1, Wipeout 2097 and Wipeout 3 and with the ingredients we have we hope to reignite the flame under the banner of Formula Fusion.
Catering for Music Fans
Music is a HUGE part of the experience we want to offer, and, because genres are so diverse, we want to try and cater for the wider market. Not everyone wants to listen to DubStep, or DnB or Jungle; there is a risk that some music fans might feel excluded. So, with the help of Ben Stanford and Tim Wright, we want to create a more generic and cinematic tone to the soundtrack – something that will provide a sort of ambience. In addition to that, we want to offer artists the chance to create artist ‘skins’ so people can pick and choose what music styles to listen to. On the PC* this will also include being able to plug in your own music.
