FORM Lifting presents the FORM Collar*, a smart device that measures barbell lifts to help you improve both your form and performance. This practical and convenient weight collar holds weights on the barbell as it streams data to your mobile device in real time. With the FORM Lifting free app on your mobile device, you get meaningful, simple feedback from your FORM Collar on each and every lift. With cloud-based storage you can refer back to a single lift or an entire lifting session without ever having to take out a notebook.
FORM Collar is far more than another activity monitor that just generates data.
The FORM Lifting team developed the FORM Collar in the gym, collaborating with all levels of athletes and seeing their differing proficiencies in both form and performance. We consider the artistry and the physics of each specific movement within each type of lift to deliver meaningful and simple metrics that give our users real indicators of their performance.
We're pretty certain that you don't have a clue because you've never had a way to measure your hip drive. Until now.
A properly executed and explosive drive through the hips is critical to having great form and performance in lifts like cleans and snatches.
With FORM Collar, you can instantly track your max hip drive on your last lift, compare it to your session average, or go head-to-head with your lifting partners to see who's killing it and who's not.
Hip drive is just one of the many meaningful metrics the FORM Collar provides.
Check out James Townsend's hip drive as he applies nearly 600 pounds of force!
This easy-to-read graph displays the FORM Collar data, allowing users to quickly and easily review, replay, and, most importantly, truly 'see' a lift as it was recorded.
This groundbreaking feature of the FORM Collar opens a new door to proper form and performance for both users and strength training coaches alike.
In 2010, John Welbourn launched Power Athlete HQ as a resource for power and strength athletes looking for access to world class coaches and cutting edge training practices in strength and speed. Through PAHQ, John has had the opportunity to work with thousands of athletes worldwide, ranging from people working in their garage to Olympic athletes.
John is a 9-year veteran of the National Football League and CEO of Power Athlete. He grew up in California and graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1998. John was drafted with the 97th pick in 1999 NFL Draft. Over the course of his career, John started over 100 games in addition to 10 play-off appearances.
Since retiring from the NFL in 2009, John has consulted and trained athletes in MLB, NHL, NFL, and the Olympics. He has also worked in the same capacity for Naval Special Warfare, teaching performance and training for Navy SEALs. He works as a consultant for DJ Global helping develop cutting edge training products for performance based athletes. John travels the world lecturing on performance and nutrition and is an expert on food for performance.
After months of designing, prototyping, and testing, we're ready to bring FORM Lifting to market. We need your help to fund our initial order of 500 units. In return for your support, we are offering a limited-time discounted price on our FORM Collars and a great variety of special packages to suit your specific needs.
I have been competing in athletics all my life and I have always found enormous value in having great tools to measure my progress towards my athletic goals. Whether it's swimming with my Garmin GPS watch or cycling with my power meter, athletes need solid tools and metrics to take their performance to the next level.
Some years ago, I started training at CrossFit Hollywood and part of the draw for me was the fact that every workout was timed and the competitive aspect was huge. Because barbell lifts are such a large part of the daily workouts, I began tracking my progress as my one rep max steadily increased over time. However, the one rep max is only performed and measured occasionally. I needed better ways to measure my lifts and track my performance. FORM Lifting is the result.
Feedback from athletes and coaches has been the guiding light throughout our design and development process and we are so fortunate to be working closely with high performance athletes like John Welbourn at Power Athlete HQ and ex-NFL player James Townsend.
Our team has put a tremendous amount of time and effort into FORM Lifting and we need your help getting us to the finish line. We are ready, our product is ready, and we are set to launch our first production run. With your help, we will be able to bring FORM Lifting to the world and raise the bar on athletic training.
Risks and challenges
Our team is experienced in both design and engineering and we won't compromise on a mediocre product and neither will you. We're keeping production here in the USA so that we will maximize our involvement and control throughout the manufacturing process.
Mechanical / Electronics - The FORM Collar was designed from the beginning to be easy to manufacture. Our current batch of 60 circuit boards was built at a local board house and they are ready to scale up production as needed. We only need to custom produce one plastic cover for which we already have price quotes. Because of this planning, we have very little risk we won't be able to deliver the hardware on time.
FORM App (iOS / Android) - All the images of the app in the video and this Kickstarter page are real screens from our fully functional app. Our beta testers have been using it over the last month to collect data on both Android and iOS devices. The cloud storage of all the lift data currently has over 3,000 lifts, a number that is growing very quickly now. We continue to refine the app to best meet the needs of our users, a process that will never stop. Bringing you a useful, intuitive, and delightful experience is enormously important to us and additional development time may be required.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
