Print the Legend - film documentary will be available on Netflix soon

The behind the scenes story of startup Formlabs and the sleepless nights to fulfil our Kickstarter pledges.

Technical issues, supplier issues, IPR issues, internal issues, investor issues?

"The film roots its core story in the rise and challenges of start-ups MakerBot and Formlabs as they vie to release consumer models and control the narrative of their market to compete with established industrial players Stratasys and 3D Systems".

      Great photo

Pretty cool to see the Form 1 on the recent episode of Person of Interest! Check out Season 3, Episode 14, "Provenance". Although apparently they're the first to have "flesh tone" resin and I'm a bit envious of how fast their Form 1 prints. ;)

Really exciting to hear news of all the shipping notices. Don't forget to head to our forums and support site, at and, for more information!

My printer arrived (in New Zealand) from DHL yesterday and have it all setup and have flicked off a couple of prints. Paid $650 NZD for tax to release the Form. Very happy to finally have my Form, it has a solid feel to it and the functionality is amazing : )

    24. Jamie on November 20, 2013

Just got a call from DHL - my printer is being held (in Australia) until I pay the duties and taxes on it
... $450 in taxes and duties damn... hoping it comes for the weekend can't wait to see its name... fingers crossed for CunningDropbear.

ChivalrousGull has landed safely by the beach in Portugal, it seems happy in its new habitat ;)
It was a long time waiting, like Wim we always believed it would arrive one day.
Thank you to all who shared their arrivals and teething problems, it gave us confidence knowing that Formlabs was actively solving the issues. Hopefully this weekend we will have time for our first test print, the butter fly clip.

neatKomono arrived in Belgium. Yeay! 1st glance: all is looking fine. Surely looks more sexy than its name would suggest, unless you're komono too of course ;-)

Although it was a long wait, i always expected all to arrive one day. Having read all post of people confirming arrival of their printer contributed to this feeling. So, that's why i post arrival of mine too.

And now, for some printing... ehh, in a week or so, if time permits ;-)

Well I was on the fence for a while, but I've finally asked Formlabs for a refund. I no longer have any faith in there long term viability or honesty of this company!

Just received my 3d-printed Gyrocube. A great little ornament!

    32. Jason Spiller on November 7, 2013

What is the longest period of print preparation time from Preform? I'm printing a large model at 0.025 and so far it's been 7 hours and it's not even 75% yat :-/

    33. Jamie on November 6, 2013

@ Geoff, +1. I was really not wanting to keep thinking bad about these guys but they do tend to keep teasing us international backers. First requesting shipping to be paid in - what was it February?
Then I wasn't wanting to add on resin until I knew it was going to work well (and It was going to be shipped, I have better things to do with my money then leave it Formlabs hands for 6 months waiting) - but it seemed a good idea to save on the shipping by getting it bundled rather then paying another $80 just on shipping separately later - but the refunded difference of only $18 (still not sure how they arrived at that figure) means I'll be paying more in tax on the value of the added resin then I saved (since items under $1000 AUD aren't taxed a separate shipment would be import tax free) - sigh.
Then the cynical part of me thinks they spammed all remaining backers about ' their order shipping soon' to encourage extra resin orders as they had some prior knowledge of that 'other' resin campaign was starting and wanted us to commit to their product first - I know I would have jumped on a few litres if I hadn't just added to my current form order.
I'm not a fan of paper printers due to their blade/razor business model and other practises and I'm getting a strong feeling 3D printer companies will be no better.
/* rant over back in my box for another month */

So Formlabs said a month ago my Form 1 was "being queued for shipment!" and "It will be enroute in a few weeks time!"

Fortunately for me, I stopped believing anything this company says a long time ago!

I really regret ever backing this project, and will be advising everyone I can to avoid doing business with Formlabs in any way!

$19m invested into Formlabs (see Formlabs blog) and you've stayed as independent as you could and kept the American dream alive. Fantastic news and that will mean our investment into the Form1 should be supported well into the future. Thanks.

Congrats Jason - Just a thought on the revenue side of things for your Form1 pop into Durham Trains in Stanley, custom scale train models and accessories? Just a thought.

Anybody seem the Peachy 3d printer some sideways thinking going on there, thinking about it you could even turn your kitchen sink into a 3d printer amazing!

Tim I don't mind plugs as long as they are interesting and have some kind of relevance, yours was thanks.

ChangeableRook is now sitting on my desk looking well sexy - shame it had to spend a week in a DHL warehouse due to - ahem- shortage of funds. Going to have to wait until the weekend before I get a chance to give it a whirl.

I did not get the spam email - I heard about the Indiegogo campaign on a 3D printing blog. I supported it because I could really use these other colors.

I wonder if someone used subg+ already ..

    48. Charles Alvis on October 16, 2013

@Tim I think Jamie was just joking around. I find it interesting that others are pursuing the resin niche and yes we need more colors. I looked at the IndieGoGo campaign and noticed that one of colors they are offering is pink - I am thinking pink ponies here. :) BTW I got no email about the campaign.

    49. Jamie on October 16, 2013

I was just thinking about the printer tray and how it needs to be swapped out periodically (not 100% sure on why this is).. but it made me think about counting the number of prints performed .. or hours of operation - does the printer do this automatically I know most paper printers can bring up a report showing these sort of figures which is useful for servicing info.

    50. Tim Ellis on October 16, 2013

Ugh, was definitely NOT trying to plug them. If I wanted to do that I would have linked straight to their IndieGoGo campaign, which I intentionally did NOT do because I didn't want to reward them for spamming me. I just wanted to know if anyone else got the same spam emails I did. Not sure how I could have asked that without at least naming the people sending the spam.
