FORMcard is a handy, pocket sized card of strong, meltable biopolastic that you can use to make, fix and modify the world around you. Just drop it in a cup of hot water and it's ready to use. Keep one in your wallet, toolbox or kitchen drawer so that it's always around when you need to fix something.
FORMcards are instant. When they're cool, they're ready to use, so you can fix things quickly in emergency situations, like when a handle breaks on a tool, or a button falls off your jacket. They are strong like nylon, not rubbery, so they can be used for long lasting solutions.
FORMcards are reusable, so if you don't like what you've made, or if you're finished with something you've made you can just melt it back down again. Great for making toys when your kids grow up!
FORMcards stick to other plastics when they are very hot. So if you take them straight out of a cup of hot water you can use them to fix broken plastic toys, tools, or anything that normally gets thrown away that they will stick to.
FORMcards are made from a starch based bio-plastic that is totally non-toxic. We have worked closely with both the chemical company, the moulders and even the colorant suppliers to ensure this is the case, even to go as far as rejecting the use of universal pigments which contain styrenes in favour of powder pigments. This is messier for us, but better for you and everyone else.
FORMcards are produced entirely in the U.K. The plant making the raw material is one of the biggest in the world (weird but true) and through friendly negotiation with a moulders in the U.K. we have found a price that is as economical to production in the far east once import / export costs are taken into consideration. But this is only achievable if we have enough orders, which is why we are launching on Kickstarter.
Normally, these types of thermoplastics are supplied in granulated form, which makes them awkward to use; the granules have to be squashed together, which is messy, wasteful and sometimes even painful. This has restricted their use to people who are familiar with making things, but I believe that this material has a place in everyone's kitchen drawer, tool box and back pack, like Blu-tack or Selotape, so I developed it into a flat card form, that would always be around and always be ready to use. The size and thickness of the card is exactly right amount of material for the quick types of fixes that are needed.
FORMcard fits in your wallet and it fits in a cup, so you can take it and use it anywhere you can find hot water. It's quick, clean, simple, instant and fun to use.
FORMcards will be made in different colours which makes them fun to use in different situations, like camo green for foresty people, fluo orange for high visibility fixes and crazy mixed colours for people into zombie apocalypse / alien invasions. We've made a load of samples in different colours for the video to help us choose what might look good and we will be able to fulfill the first orders using these test batches as soon as the campaign ends (in time for Christmas!!!) - and then the next wave can be made three weeks from this date.
If and when we hit £2000 we'll be able to open up some further colour options...fingers crossed.
We'll be posting more tips and projects at:
Thanks for watching our video, and please support our project!
oh.... and many thanks to the talented David Gardener for creating a great video in a rush... on a shoe string...late at night. Cheers, Dave - seems to have worked out okay.
Risks and challenges
We have done our very best to get the product totally ready for quick production. We have a simple mould made and ready to be used, and we have made many samples (in different colours) with a moulding company who is on standby should there be enough orders coming in. Our fullfillment of orders of actual cards can be under three weeks from the conclusion of the campaign if we have enough demand.
We have studio storage space for compliing orders and sending out and we understand all the costs of postage all over the world.
We are totally ready for a succesful campaign and only hope that we have enough orders to justify full scale production!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
