WINDWALKERS is an adaptation of the Sci-Fi novel “THE HORDE OF THE COUNTERWIND” written by the French author Alain Damasio (available in French, Italian, and soon in English). The novel received an extraordinary welcome and quickly became a success in French bookstores. It is now ranked among the top 20 modern Sci-Fi masterpieces.

Imagine an Earth that is shaped by the wind. Imagine winds so fierce, they cover the surface of the world and destroy everything in their paths.
The various fauna, flora, and human civilizations, have adapted to this “hell”, with the hope that one day the wind will stop.
In Aberlass, a city set against an immense cliff, every generation a group of young boys and girls are chosen for their potential and are trained to "counter" the wind. They become the HORDE. They leave the city as young adults and walk windwards, facing the wind their entire lives, to find the mysterious origin of the winds. They are the WINDWALKERS.

Adapting The Horde of the Counterwind into a movie would be like trying to adapt the entire plot of Game of Thrones into one movie... it seems almost impossible and exceedingly frustrating!
That is why we decided to develop the complete story into a movie series.
The first 6 episodes will cover a big part of the journey and introduce the main characters, but of course we do have the material to develop it into a 12 episode series and to create a season II, III, IV...
What we want to do with the first 6 episodes is to cover at least half of the story of the book.
WINDWALKERS is not the story of a single man or woman; it is the story of a group, and what a group can do to overcome the hardships which threaten to tear them apart. It is an epic team story; a heroic fantasy without fairies or dragons. It is an action story meant to touch our deepest essence, and remind us that to LIVE AUTHENTICALLY means to BE IN MOVEMENT and to BE CONNECTED.

Each member of the group has a specific role but they all have in common the ability to coordinate in order to oppose the wind and complete their quest.
The sixteen members are divided between the lance (the head of the formation), the pack, and the hooks who are at the back pulling the wind sleighs. When they are in formation, opposing the unbridled forces of the wind, they move as one, like a living machine.
MORE GRAPHICAL THAN REALISTIC
We have no desire to stray into hyperrealism for this project. Forge is looking for a graphical/pictorial style (ref: Frazetta, Mignola, Sin City and Street Fighter X) in which the wind itself is a primary element in the design (VFX design, ref: Tron). Over and above the physical effects (particles, wake...), the wind has a metaphysical dimension. It is the very basis for life (the quick).
THE WIND BLOWS IN ONE DIRECTION
The fauna, flora, and people in Windwalkers all have a particular asymmetry; the one side which is exposed to the wind is smoothed and polished, while the side protected from the wind is rough.
THINK OF THE HORDE AS A SINGLE LIVING MACHINE
When the Windwalkers are in formation, they function like a perfectly coordinated single living being. Their bodies and their armor form a whole. They are like a swimming/ rowing/rugby team.
MAN HAS EVOLVED WITH THE WIND
Through the generations, men have adapted themselves to the winds. However, despite their morphological changes (aerodynamic furrows, thick epidermis, double eyelids...), they remain distinctly human looking.
MOVEMENT AND CONNECTIVITY AT THE HEART
The movie asks the question “what does it mean to be alive?” The answer it provides is: « To live is to be connected and in movement ».
We’ve been developing this project for a while, using our own money, raising funds for research and development, and now we really need you to go ahead, launch the production and stay creatively free!
The machineries of film-making are such that conservative thinking is very much a part of the selection process and marketing of film. That doesn't exactly foster a conducive environment for creative experimentation or growth. It tends to create ruts that are difficult for studios and producers to deviate from.
Creatively rich projects like WINDWALKERS need new trends to change that and to come to audiences around the world.

OF COURSE, IF YOU BACK THE PROJECT, YOU WILL BECOME A LOVED FAN AND YOU WILL RECEIVE ALL EPISODES PRODUCED!
But you may imagine that producing 6 animated episodes won't cost 75.000 €, this is true it costs a lot more!
Our first goal is 75.000€, why?
We need this first step to begin the production and deliver 5 minutes of the Chapter 1.
Of course it would be better to get more because the more we get, the better the quality will be and the more minutes we could produce. But in every case, having 5 minutes of the Chapter one, will allow us to raise private funds (from private investors and not from the market) and to complete the budget to produce the complete Chapter 1 (50 minutes).
But as it is funds raising, we can’t guarantee you that we will be able to make it, and that is why we can’t guarantee you that we will be able to deliver the Chapter 1 complete (50’).
That is why we decided to add STRETCH goals, because what we want most of all, is to deliver the complete 1st Chapter to you, and the complete season as well !!
If we reach our first goal (75 000 €) we will be able to launch the production of the Chapter 1 and deliver 5 minutes of it. We know it might seem like a huge amount of money for just 5 minutes of animation, but if you consider the fact that the pilot for Game of Thrones cost 10 million dollars to make, then you understand that 75000 is a realistic figure for a project of this caliber.
WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO?
We have carefully researched each aspect of this universe. Some specific focuses of our research were how winds this powerful would affect environments, plants, animals, and even humans living under these conditions.This research will help us to make the universe as realistic as possible. We began the graphic research for the characters and we have a lot of beautiful backgrounds.
International designers have all worked on the project with passion and let us think this story could attract a large audience all over the world. We have a small team but we do have a director on board, a designer, a 3D specialist, a FX specialist and an animator, now it's time for us to build our complete team, to hire new people and began the production.

We are a small team and we believe it is more important to put all our efforts into what we do than into items or goodies. That is why we decided to offer you mainly digital rewards, because we are proud of what we're doing and because we want to invest all our time and money into the movie!
Forge Animation is a young privately financed company whose strategy is to produce transmedia content for the Digital Generation. We develop animated movies, video games and comics based around compelling and meaningful universes with teams of international artists.
We are working with top talent to create, produce, and fully realize this AAA project. We have the experience and the know-how and now we just need the support! =D

yes we would like to but we can only handle one Kickstarter at the time and it will depend of the success of this one too. To be completely clear with you, on our past campaign we asked $330,000 to make the game. Those were around 5% of the final budget of the projet. The game would have cost us something between 5-15M$ to produce. The rest of the fund were coming from private investor that support us, we have to proove them that we have a community interested in the project to ask them this amount of money. Our past campaign revealed that the community is strong in the french speaking world but not yet enough in the rest of the world.
So we had to shift the strategy of the company to built up more our community and reprioritize our development timeline to do so. The game is still in preproduction but won’t enter in full production until we can close the budget to make something at the scale we want to make for the project we already presented to you.
Now producing one episode of the series is a bit cheaper, around 1M$, here again we are asking only 5% of the final budget, but we think having the series would be the best way to have a maximum of people discovering this fantastic world and our vision of it. We are passionate about this licence and we will show you that we can make something great with it.
The book is actually being translated in english and will be available in the end of 2016, so this will probably help us too. Until that we will continue to fight to make it happen.
The average pledge we used is a pledge of 40€ (43$).
For us, the NUMBER OF BACKERS is a very important thing. And if each of our backer today is able to bring 10 friends to back the project, then we will finish at 300 000 backers and that would be a VICTORY! Of course we need money to finance our project but it is too hard to imagine how much money you can bring to a project whereas it is easy to figure out how much people you can bring! We strongly believe in the human power rather than in the money power, it may sound utopian but this is the way we are and the purpose of our project.
